Impressive external drive . My previous external drive was a 500GB Buffalo Technology; it was fast and trouble-free, but my storage needs after 14 months were greater. After researching competitive 2TB drives, and reading a few horror stories about other units, this one really stood out, and the price was right. Close to a month of hard use, I have found it to operate extremely cool, very quiet, and it's better built than the Buffalo (and many of the other drives I looked at). The metal case is high quality, and also aids heat dissipation. It makes no sense to buy a USB2 drive. I don't have a USB 3 connection in my Dell dock or notebook (only USB2); however the data thru put is noticeably higher than the Buffalo 'Turbo Boost' setup (which was pretty fast). I suspect this is due to the 32MB cache, and higher disk rotational speed. The drive automatically 'sleeps' after a period of inactivity, so there is no need to ever turn it off. Installation was as simple as plugging in the power and USB; it is already formatted NTFS. Unlike the Buffalo unit, Windows only sees one drive with the GForce3. The 3 year warranty is better than most competitors. Highly recommended!

Excellent . I was quite impressed with the metal box construction and sleek design. I then purchased a USB 3.0 connection as well, but it worked fine on the 2.0. I do think the 3.0 is noticeably faster. They are quiet, having no fan, which does not seem to be an issue with heat. Not sure how, but nicely done Fantom. I liked the Fantom so much, a few months later I purchased a second one. So far, no issues with either. After several WD drives went bad on me (even one they sent as a replacement), I swore off anything by them. The Fantoms are also priced competitively and have a 3-year warranty! (which, admittingly is of little solace if you just lost all your data and your backup also failed). I would recommend their products.

I purchased two of these drives to prevent such incident from happening again. There is a slight lag when accessing the drives on occasion. The speed of both drives are not as fast as a raid 0 setup. But for backup purposes, Fantom USB 3.0 drives works fairly well.

fast . This is my first USB3 drive and color me impressed with the speed. I have other Fantom drives and never had a problem so I don't anticipate any with this one.
You can't go wrong! . This drive at this price is amazing! Beautiful Aluminum case is satin black finish. 2TB with USB 2.0 & 3.0 Cable included. We own 8 of these and love them! I gave it 4 stars because there is room for improvement with an external Sata port.
