A big disappointment but it's better than a tape drive. . I bought this last year when our tape drive died and I decided to make the jump to B2D backups. It does its job, but I'd be happier if I shelled out the extra cash for a more capable unit. There's a ton of services packed in to this (and every QNAP) unit, but this one doesn't have the muscle to do many at once. For instance, I wouldn't even consider this for video storage/delivery. I never intended to, but it has the option. By QNAP's own data this is, by far, the worst performing unit QNAP offers. During a sustained file transfer Samba and Raid5 will each suck up between 20-35% of CPU cycles, so don't waste your money on expensive high-speed, server-class drives. This unit will never let them stretch their legs. I actually bought a desktop TS-410 to sync the backups for offsite DR, but the disk-processing overhead was so high there was nothing left for rsync use. It's actually 2-3x faster to just have the backup server handle the copying between the two!If you care about your company's data and network performance, get the TS-459U-SP+. It's about 50% more, but if you're considering a rack-mount unit then this is the class you should be comparing. Otherwise for about the same price as the 410U is the TS-459-PRO+. No redundant PS, but neither does the 410U.
