It depends on how you will use . Apricorn Aegis Bio 320 GB is very easy to use and can protect your data and files all the time,in your office, hotel, at home, any place you are visiting. You do not have to type password, you do
not forget your password, you do not worry other people watching when you typing if you use your finger print. There are lots of negative comments about finger print problem. You have to learn how to use it. You have to try about speed of moving your finger, the starting point, remember the exactly how did you enter your finger print. At first I have to do more than ten times, but now, I just do once or twice, each time when I enter it.

nice but not . I bought this as my friend had one, and his ran trouble free and was very secure.

The good
Secure storage
large drive
Quiet

The bad
Software doesn't work with 64 bit systems
good luck downloading any software from their website.

Overall, once I am able to set this up, it will be nice. Thankfully I have a 32 bit OS to do this.
Apricorn Aegis Bio 500 GB USB 2.0 128-bit Encrypted Portable External Hard Drive A25-BIO-500 (Blue) Opinions
I hope it is as good as it says . I had my car broken into and my briefcase stolen in a very public area. Inside the briefcase was this Apricorn Bio Hard Drive. Inside the Hard Drive I had my tax records for the past 4 years and numerous family documents preserved. I'm very upset about the burglary and the loss of the information. I may never know if they gain access to the information, but it is slightly comforting to know that all the info is behind a fingerprint scanner, as opposed to a simple plug and play of an external USB hard drive. And also comforting to know that if they break it open to access the info, it is encrypted. The fingerprint scanner almost always worked on the first swipe - I just hope it is truly a technology barrier to entry, and not a marketing gimmic and that they won't be able to try 100 times and have one of the swipes work.
Frustratingly close to perfection . The drive itself is great. Take it anywhere, plug it in, and swipe your finger to unlock your data.

Apricorn also touts the Bio as a secure password repository, however. I'm sure it works fine in Internet Explorer, but I happen to use Firefox. Apricorn's bundled software works with Firefox 1.0 through 2.0, but those versions have been retired for ages. The bottom line: it doesn't work with current versions of Firefox. So close, and yet such a seemingly small detail spoils all the fun. There are no software downloads from Apricorn at all, and none from Upek that will fix this problem. Why on earth would a manufacturer of top rated hardware let what seems like a trivial software upgrade cripple its product in this manner? I just don't get it...

Cons Review
Works with FAT32 ONLY . After purchasing this hard drive, I enrolled my fingerprints on it, whereupon it was automatically formatted to FAT32. The manufacturer supplied a Formatter Utility that formats to FAT32 ONLY. I next reformatted this hard drive to NTFS using Windows XP. At first, the reformatting concluded successfully. But when I began to use the hard drive under NTFS, that is when the problem began.

I decided to remove 2 of my fingerprints from enrollment. After doing so, Windows XP can no longer access the contents of the hard drive! The manufacturer-supplied Formatter Utility could not detect the hard drive at all! The Computer Management utility of Windows XP gave a wild description of "partitions" in the hard drive. Evidently, the File Allocation Table of the hard drive became corrupt.

Nothing in the manufacturer's website product description warns of problems with NTFS. Neither is there a warning in the product data sheet or the user guide. It is in the Support Section of the manufacturer's website that the manufacturer admits to issues regarding NTFS.

It appears incongruous to me that the manufacturer offers a hard drive with such HIGH capacity, only to saddle it with the LIMITATIONS of FAT32. I work or play with big files, like videos or movies. For these sizes of files, I need NTFS. This hard drive is basically useless to me. Do you also work or play with big files?
Major Companies Still Don't Get It: Vista 64-bit... what's the problem? . Don't waste your money on this product if you're running Windows Vista 64-bit. According to the lackluster tech support rep (after 16 minutes of holding with "leave a message" prompts every 45 seconds) this is what I am provided: "we don't do 64 yet... they're working on it." Who? Who is working on it? I am pretty certain that I am not the only customer in the western hemisphere running Vista 64-bit. As a matter of fact, it was supplied on my laptop from the factory. So, again, I ask: how can peripheral companies overlook such a large swath of their target market?

I give the hardware a 10--as it's truly a great package, and seems to be constructed with quality, although I'm not quite sure if it works.

I give the software a 0 because it doesn't work AT ALL with my NEW computer.

I give their corporate website a 1, because what modern computer/hardware company doesn't have downloadable software from their site? It's not 1996.

And I give Tech Support (Apricorn) a 3, because the rep at the very least spoke English, although his understanding of his company's product was very poor.
