Very nice drive @ a great price - Wish it had firewire . There's not much to say - the good -=> it's quiet - it's compact - it's attractive - it's a great Time machine drive - it's 750GB in your shirt/pant pocket! On the down side it uses a non-standard usb connector (don't lose the supplied cable).

if it had firewire 800 it would get 6 stars.
Western Digital My Passport Essential SE 750 GB Portable External Hard Drive USB 2.0 Drive (Cool Silver) Reviews
Great Size great Speed Nice Design Great Brand. . I purchased this Hard drive with a Gift card (Nice!) because my Toshiba 640GB disk (mini) only works 2 days. Now this is the replacement.

Pro:

Is small, is fast, is nice, is great. Big size, low price.

Cons:

USB connector is not standard (I believe this will be standard in the future perhaps)
The unit works HOT if you use it for hours.

I recommend this product.
Western Digital My Passport Essential SE 750 GB Portable External Hard Drive USB 2.0 Drive (Cool Silver) Opinions
Great Drive Mac Compatable . I was worried about buying the drive as it is PC compatible and i have a mac. I didn't want to pay the extra money to get a product that has been formatted a different way. After talking to a few people i found that the drive just has to be reformatted using the Dick Utility that comes on every Mac. After doing this and partitioning the drive, all of which is easily done using the Disk Utility the drive works great with Time Machine on my Mac.

The only con, which has already been stated, is that the usb drive is not standard.

The drive works great and its very compact, perfect for keeping in my bag when im in class and all over campus.
Software Poorly Designed . I helped a friend buy the Western Digital My Passport Essential SE 750 GB Portable External Hard Drive USB 2.0 Drive WDBABM7500ASL-NESN (Cool Silver) a few months ago, and it has been nothing but a pain for us ever since.

GOOD POINTS
----------------------
Let me be clear: the drive works. We were able to save a lot of files onto it from old computer hard drives, and it beautifully performed that task. I feel confident that the files will be safe there.

And, by the way, the plug is fine. It is a regular USB cable. Cameras and other small electronic devices use this size. It is a tight fit, but otherwise, no problem.

BAD POINTS
----------------------
The problem is the software for running regular backups. I am pretty comfortable with most software, but I just cannot get this to do anything besides backup the files. They are all thrown into the drive into some incomprehensible order. It is great to know that the information is there, but I cannot retrieve anything. It is too late to return it, so now it is the secondary backup.

BUY SEAGATE INSTEAD
----------------------
I really wish we would have just gone with what I know works: anything by Seagate (I have used the Seagate FreeAgent Go 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive ST905003FGA2E1-RK (Silver) and Seagate FreeAgent Desk 1 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive ST310005FDA2E1-RK (Silver)). After unpleasant experiences with Western Digital and Toshiba, I can now appreciate well-made software.

Software ought to be easy to use, and Seagate has proven that it can be done. The files are saved onto the drive just as they appear in the computer. Perfect! If Western Digital had included decent software with the drive, I would have given it more stars. It gets three for working, which is more than I can say for the Toshiba drive we tried!
Great Product . Simple, easy to use, perfect for Laptops.
Hightly recommend this product. Best Backup solution I have seen todate.
Great buy . Its a great external hard drive for it's size. However, it only came with 697 GB and not 750 GB as advertised. It's still a great hard drive though and I would definitely recommenced it.
great buy - it arrived fast and in excellant condition . This is a great product - I LOVE IT !!! :)
It's smaller than most external USB drives, and has an excellant transfer rate.

Cons Review
Non-standard USB . I foolishly purchased this drive before reading the reviews - then opened the package to confirm.

To me, all other features are irrelevant given that Western Digital has chosen a non-standard USB connector.

I can't just throw the drive into by bag and go - I need to remember the cable and will be hosed if I ever misplace it.

Come on, WD, half the world runs on mini USB and the other half on micro USB. What were you thinking! Shame on you.
New WD My PAssport HDDs . I have had several WD My passport drives in the past and have recommended them to my clients. The drive works well and seems to last as well as can be expected. In my experience they are well made and feel solid.

My biggest issue with this HDD is the non standard USB connection. What a pain in the a**.

Why do companies feel the need for changing to proprietary connections when the regular ones work fine. I would say this is a money grab but I haven't found anywhere to buy a replacement or a longer cable so it's not like they are making any money from selling USB cables.

As for me WD will not be making any money from selling me another one of these drives.
The plug has me bringing it back before I even use it . The plug!....yet another obscure USB type cable that I would rather not have. I am so tired of all these different types of USB cable connectors it drives me crazy. My printer, phone, Maxtor USB HD, and now my WD D, all are USB with a different cable that I can't share. Wonderful. BUT! here is the kicker- When I plugged it in, it didn't feel like it was in! I couldn't tell! so i touched it, and it fell out. I can't be bothered for the next few years, constantly checking to see if it is in, or if it fell out, what a bunch of BS. It goes back to the store on that alone. Give me a product that when I plug it in... I KNOW it's plugged IN!. Junk.
