Sturdy & Secure Storage . Finally, an excellent solution to my large file redundant back-up needs! With hot-swappable drives, G-Safe allows me to keep a pair of true RAID copies on-site and also use a third drive (bought separately) that I can rotate and keep at an off-site location. I have another G-Safe used for other projects, and it's been working flawlessly for over 2 years. I'm just glad this new larger 2 TB storage format is available for system-wide back-ups. Perfect for Mac Time Machine back-ups, video, photographs, and anything for which you really can't afford to lose a byte. Per GB, it's very reasonable cost for the storage safety you need. Only possible critique: cooling fan is a couple dB above my desk background noise; otherwise fine. Looks great, too.
2TB G-safe Raid Storage Reviews
Great investment for peace of mind! . I recently purchased this item, looking to keep all my data safely backed up. I have tried many different back up methods. I've used CD's/DVD's but I have to say that I fail at following through regularly plus I would never want to have to transfer data onto a computer after a crash using disks. I have backed up onto my Mac Time Capsule. Great for smaller drives but have you ever tried to back up more than a terabyte wirelessly? How long do you have? I even tried backing up off site as an additional back up system. Same problem as the TC only worse. I have two back up external hard drives but that certainly wasn't enough for me given the importance of my work. I needed redundancy.

As a Mac person, this item made sense to me since it is geared to Mac first. From what I understand, it is easily used by PC types also. When I got it, I just hooked it up, reprogramed my Time Machine and that's been about it. It backs up quickly and, best yet, I don't have to be the one to instigate the process. I bought an extra drive so that I can store it off site as my "just in case" backup to the backup! I swap that one out every week and the process couldn't be easier - just pop out one drive and insert the other one and push one button to have it begin to rewrite the drive. I suppose I should mention that I'm not any kind of a techie so if it is easy for me to handle, just about anyone can!

I am thrilled with this purchase (am I really saying I'm thrilled with a hard drive purchase??). It sits quietly (well, it does hum a bit but it doesn't bother me at all) on my desk and takes up little room. It is also quite easy to install and use. Should've done this ages ago! A small price to pay for piece of mind!
2TB G-safe Raid Storage Opinions
G-Safe Great So Far... . I purchased this unit to stream videos over my home network to my Apple TV2. So far, it's working fine, and movies look great with 5.1 sound working perfectly with voices in sync with the movies. I save my movies in iTunes and have repointed my iTunes Media library to the G-Safe unit. The only glitch I've noticed so far is when I reboot the iMac, I have to assure the iTunes Media server (the G-Safe box) mounts on the Desktop before iTunes starts up. Otherwise, iTunes won't know the G-Safe unit is available and will reset to its default location on the startup drive. To accommodate this need, I've set iTunes to startup last during reboots of the system. Of course, if you manually startup iTunes you'll never face this timing issue.

In the spring, I plan to get a separate FireWire 800 drive to backup the G-Safe unit. While the G-Safe unit's drive 1 mirrors to drive 2, the only assurance I have that it's working properly is the OK display on the front of the unit. The iMac only sees one drive, naturally, so I have no way to actually see if there's anything actually on drive 2 (to be fair, the blue activity light for drive 2 flashes concurrently with normal updates to drive 1, so I have no reason to think anything's amiss). Removing drive 2 to mount it in a separate box to view its contents would only result in it being erased and rebuilt when replaced back in the G-Safe's drive bay 2, anyway.

I'm very satisfied with its performance, and the build quality is impeccable. Barring any electronic defect, I expect many years of service. So, so far so good...
Awesome! . I wouldn't think twice about buying this again. In fact, I plan to get another one in the near future. Great backup solution.
Wonderful product . It's a disk, so it can't be but so exciting. But, it's 2Tb -- fully protected -- filling quickly with movies, music, and pictures. It's a perfect companion to Apple TV.

Cons Review
Wouldn't recommend this for serious professionals . My wife and I run a small wedding photography business and decided to use the g-raid set up to store our archive and stream our live edits into our editing program. After 1 month of use the drive began clicking and then wasn't able to mount properly to our Mac. G-Tech support recommended that we buy a $100 software to fix the issue. I ran Disk Utility 10 times to repair the drive to no avail. I said a prayer and ran it again and it mounted and was repaired. Everything was fine after that. 1 month later (2 days ago) we heard some clicking coming from the drive again and were concerned. I had downloaded Drive Genius 3 to maintain my main computer and keep all my other externals working properly. My 3 year old WD from best buy is in better shape than this 2 month old G-Safe. G-Safe had over 50 bad blocks only 1/8th into the scan. Also was completely corrupted and failing. The recommended remedy was to replace it. Drive copied the corruption from the main drive to the fail-safe drive. A great feature of RAID, it copies the corruption to both drives. PERFECT. So now my clients archive of over 700 GB is trapped. I ended up switching the drives and somehow repaired it a second time and contacted G-Tech to see about returning it. They will send me a new unit but won't issue a refund. I asked what they would do if the drive fails again and they said they will replace it again but can't give a refund. The seller wouldn't refund either, even though they can get a brand new unit back from the manufacturer. I don't trust G-Tech now and probably won't be buying another g-drive again. Funny thing is that the "OK" label on the hard drive never changed, even though Drive Genius senses something was seriously wrong. I guess those only change when the drive catches on fire. We will report on how the replacement drive works out. Cheers
