AWESOME! . I love this jump drive. It was a great investment! You would think that by the picture that it wasn't that impressive, but it's metal!!! The durability that it is going to have while being on my keychain is well worth the price!

Awesome quiet drive that perfectly matches my iMac! . I am a Professional 3D Designer and I use Macs since the 90s.... I owned a ton of drives of many brands including metal enclosures, etc... and I have to say this drive is awesome. First of all, I was pleasantly surprised with the aesthetic of the Seagate GoFlex. Very neat design. Beautiful black rubberized texture with an aluminum band in the front and top of the unit. It matches perfectly my iMac 2009 as well as my APC NS 1250 backup system (same dimmed blue/grey lights up front). It is running 24/7 and it is as quiet as the iMac. I barely notice the fan. It comes formatted for Mac. Just plugged it and voila! 3TB of space for $219 is a very decent price (thank you Amazon) knowing that the actual inside drive is a Barracuda XT with 64MB cache! The drive itself is more expansive than this whole unit! Seagate recently announced the availability to switch the FW800 base with a Thunderbolt one so it will be compatible with the new generation of iMacs and up to 20x faster!!!
By the way, there are two FW800 (rear and side) and one USB on the base. No switch (which I like) as the drive turns automatically On/Off with the iMac. I personally love this feature. In my opinion it is the ultimate drive to use with an iMac. I am extremely happy with my purchase. I am going to buy another one soon to backup this one with Time Machine. I would definitely recommend this drive. I hope this help.
Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk v 2.0 3 TB FireWire 800 USB 2.0 External Hard Drive for Mac - STBC3000101 (Black) Reviews
2tb Goflex MAC drive . Just got this product about 2 weeks ago. Wanted to use it to back up all my movies and music on Itunes. Installed easy and no issues with backing up so far. Great product and easy to use.
Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk v 2.0 3 TB FireWire 800 USB 2.0 External Hard Drive for Mac - STBC3000101 (Black) Opinions
Nice drive. No problems after 1 month of heavy use. . Good design and form factor. Dual FW800 ports (one in back, one on bottom, used for Thunderbolt dock I'm guessing) makes it convenient when positioning drive upright or on the side. Quiet fans. Doesn't get too hot at all. 64MB cache on the 3TB version...nice!

Cons Review
Died after about a minute of use. . I thought there was techno music in the background of something on TV. A minute into time machine backup this unit was making snapping, zipping, and clunking noises with of course an error message on my computer screen.
I saw a prior review that said it was dead in the first 24 hours thinking it was a fluke (sometimes it happens). Now ironically, out of four total reviews here, two are dead units in the first day.
Died in first 24hrs . Seems that Seagate is continuing to fall into the mediocre products category. Bought this unit, plugged it up and transferred 200GB of files only to have it die approximately 24 hours later. I'm by-passing the replacement and going right to another brand.

WD Passport Portable Hard Drive 250 GB/Go

High-performance portable storage for your PC and Mac . Light and rugged, it¿s easy to carry and no external power adapter is needed. omes with sync & encryption and Google software.

This review is from : WD Passport Portable Hard Drive 250 GB/Go
Western Digital Passport 250 GB - Nice Looking Portable External HD . WD Passport Portable Hard Drive 250 GB/Go

Out of the passport lineup, this is the fourth one I've bought and I couldn't be more happy with them. Passport hard drives also have a new and slightly thicker essentials version. I own both, which other than the slightly different form factor are very similar in terms of performance. Both are great for mobile backups of data, but both are also slower to copy large backups than their A/C powered MyBook big-brothers.

There's also a newer version that isn't out on Amazon yet and an Elite version.

The Looks

The drive has the shiny exterior sported by most passport drives as well as the new MyBooks. The body has an offset shape with a blue activity light. The white version may appeal a little more to Mac users, but the black version is the same in every other way.

The case does scratch in transit and the surface also attracts fingerprints and dust. But the look is still nice and you can easily purchase a case or holder for the drive if it bothers you. Most versions don't ship with the included case, but you can pick it up for $10.

The Features

Transfer speeds are ok but definitely slower than it's A/C powered big-brothers. This guy is still limited by the 480 Mps connection speed of USB 2.0, but performs somewhat slower than this when performing large backups. The USB2.0 speed rating can not really be achieved in production and you will get a fraction of that. But it's a trade-off that's worth it since it's USB-powered.

The software utilities included with this device will be most useful for beginners. I tested the backup software in particular but found it to be slow and impractical. It works, but cutting and pasting worked better. Take my advice: don't use this utilities and just do cut and paste backups and saves to this drive.

I've had no problem connecting this drive to any computer, including Windows XP, Vista and Mac OS X.

Reliability

I've had good luck with the passport line of drives. They seem to have lower failure rates than many MyBook drives, though I also own those and haven't had issues their either. I hope it stays that way. Maybe my gentle care has helped me to get lucky with these guys so far. Maybe it's because these drives are generally off when in transit. Regardless, these guys have held up fine.

Pros
+ Nice portable form factor that easily connects via USB
+ USB powered, no A/C required, which is great for portability
+ Works well on Windows Vista, XP and Mac OS X
+ Easy to set up disk encryption for security and privacy
+ Nice looks, in my opinion better looking than the new essentials version
+ Turns on and off with your computer or easily ejected via system tray
+ Easy plug-and-play installation
+ Integrates nicely with my growing stable of WD MyBook drives
+ Included software may be useful for some novices
+ 250 GB capacity is just about right for most users
+ At this price, a better value than the 320GB passport

Cons
- Somewhat slow file transfer speeds for larger backups
- Included software not useful for power users
- Shiny body attracts scratch, fingerprints and dust
- Have to spend your cash to get a case that should have been included
- Larger sizes available

Conclusion

This drive is great or those who want a portable drive for backups on the run. You can get this 250GB version for around $100, versus the $150 charged for the 320 GB Western Digital 320 GB Passport 2.5" USB 2.0 Hard Drive. That makes the price ($ per GB) better and this 250 GB unit a better value than the higher capacity 320 GB. Other than price and capacity there is no real difference between them. Get one soon!

Enjoy!
WD Passport Portable Hard Drive 250 GB/Go Reviews
Works perfectly . I bought this product on amazon, and it works beautifully. I just plugged it in, and it was immediately detected. When I first took it out of the package, I thought there was some mistake because of how lightweight this thing is; it almost feels like a solid state drive (definitely isn't though). It's not as fast as the WD MyBook, but that's because its only 5400RPM as opposed to 7200RPM, but its definitely worth it for the extra portability. Also, the white looks beautiful next to my Mac!
WD Passport Portable Hard Drive 250 GB/Go Opinions
WD Passport Portable . This is an awesome product, comes with a very short cord, but its usable. I purchased the white one to match my white macbook.

This is my 3rd passport and by far the largest size. With the price drops, they are more affordable.

With more and more portable apps. this is a convenient way to travel without a computer.
Portable gem . This is my third WD passport. I use them to store data and for backup. Nothing to install. Small and light, easy to carry. Now available in a variety of colors to color code for use. Reformat to NTFS before using.
Good looking portable HDD. Sweet! . It looks good, relatively quiet, and the best of all... By accident, more than 2 weeks ago, I dropped it from my desk on to my hard wood floor. A good 3 ft. free fall. I thought it would be the end of the world...

Today, 2 weeks later, it's still running w/ no glitch whatsoever, that's why I wait until now to write this review.

Wait... I hope I am not going to jinx it. :P
Great external HD . This HD is small and great for portability. I still have not filled it up and it is very fast as well.
WD Passport 250 Gb . Greta lil Back up drive.
Transfer rate a lil slow but worth it not
to carry power cables.
WD Rocks.
Nice design no longer price competitive. . Western Digital portable drives have been what I've purchased most of for my company. I've also more recently started purchasing Iomega drives. I find that you can now get a 500GB Iomega drive for about the same price as this and I find it more stylish. Make sure you search around for other brands and prices if you aren't absolutely demanding a Western Digital.
Smart choice . I got this HD with possible Army use in mind. I wanted something compact, durable and large enough to fit map files which run in tens of gigs.

WD Passport is a good choice and I'll describe the reasons below.

This model has one cable to power/connect to internet. The cable is a standard mini-usb, a very common type. this can not be overstated because this feature alone gives it flexibility, portability, and makes it very user friendly. I own another, older external HD by western digital which as a power cable, and a separate computer cable and its a whole different story.

I bought mine for 90 to 100 dollars in may 2008, which is an excellent deal.

Secondary features are size - its small and fits in side a backpack easy. Has bright LED light that ensures I know when its on. Does not require drivers to plug into PCs. (do not recall if I needed anything for mac though). On the back I used the space to write my name in a permanent marker, in case I violated security and lost it somewhere.

It looks attractive, white with blue LED is a great combination. I think mac users and other white laptop users will be pleasantly surprised when they put it next to their machine.

Features I'd like to see:
+password protection. I'd like to have a lock on my HD where a pin is needed to enter it.
+gps tracker capability. i'd like high end models to be trackable in case they are lost.
+rubber case to cushon falls.

Cons Review
I had to send it back after 2 weeks. . After using this product just fine with my dell for two weeks, I got a new Apple computer. When trying to reformat this hard drive, It totally failed. Thankfully wd honored the warranty and promptly sent me a new one. I should note that this was after I tried to navigate their user-unfriendly website for an hour and then I got yelled at by both the Apple Genuis Bar who said I must have broken it and the wd "help" line by a man who hardly spoke english and did not want to help me at all. That said the new one works just fine... for now.

This review is from : G-Technology G-RAID mini 500GB Dual External Hard Drive w/ eSATA, USB 2.0, Firewire 400, Firewire 800 Interfaces and RAID 0/1 0G00233
Does the Job . I use this for heavy video capturing and editing on the road, and it's been holding up great (depsite the abuse I put it through). The drive spins fast enough to edit HD content, and I've never had any issues with it.

The only problem I have with this is the port situation. My G-Drive Mini has a FW800, FW400 and a USB plug. The ideal situation would be dual FW800 ports for daisy-chaining without ruining the bus speed. Aside from that, it's great!
G-Technology G-RAID mini 500GB Dual External Hard Drive w/ eSATA, USB 2.0, Firewire 400, Firewire 800 Interfaces and RAID 0/1 0G00233 Reviews
Great little drive . Usual G-Tech beautiful design. Great lightweight drive. Fast enough to edit SD video footage, and a great back up drive. You can find a drive with the same specs for less, but it won't be as well made, and probably not as reliable.
G-Technology G-RAID mini 500GB Dual External Hard Drive w/ eSATA, USB 2.0, Firewire 400, Firewire 800 Interfaces and RAID 0/1 0G00233 Opinions
The proof is in the eating of the pudding as they say . Portable drives are commodities these days, and with manufacturers cutting costs to compete on price, it seems hard to find a dependable drive no matter who makes it. This drive is one way of addressing the issue, since it can be set up to write the same information to two drives (RAID 1).

I bought one of the first of these devices back in the Fall of 2009, and wrote a review that has since disappeared (the device has been updated, I guess, but it still looks identical to mine). My initial review was not exactly favorable, since I had to send the unit back and G-Tech was slow in responding. I also ran into some initial difficulties getting the drive to mount regularly, but I think that may have been my error. One thing to note if you're a PC user: you'll need to use an extra power source if you use the USB connection. Firewire400 & 800 carry enough power for both drives, but not USB. Fortunately, there's an AC adapter included (as well as all the cables you'll need plus a leather case with elastic cable storage) and everything seems to be of good quality.

The drive comes set up as RAID 0 (striped), but there is a downloadable utility for changing this to RAID 1 (mirror). One reviewer mentioned trouble with the software, but I didn't have any issues - you do have to make sure you download the proper software from their website, though. The software is also on an included CD, but I would recommend the most recent version from the G-Tech website.

I mentioned that I had to send the unit back to G-Tech early on: one of the two enclosed drives failed within three days of opening the box. That's not unusual with electronics... the first 90 days are sort of a shake-out period. The failure give me the chance to see the drive in action and witness the redundant feature. When the drive failed, I saw a flashing red LED through the ventilation holes. This happens at start-up, but it is quickly replaced with a white LED once the drives spin up. In this case, the white LED never came on, so I knew something was wrong. The volume still mounted, however - the intact drive was still operational, and was mounting as if nothing was wrong. Very cool! Since it was under warranty, I returned it for service, but now I think I'd just replace the drive myself - it's really quite easy.

In any event, the drive has proven itself worthy of five stars. Here I am almost two years later, having used and toted this drive around with me daily, usually plugging it in to several machines each day. I even dropped it from waist high to cement (it was in its case), which warped the shell just a tad. About a year ago I upgraded the internal drives to Samsung 640GB 7200rpm Spinpoint drives, which was extremely easy to do. The native drives are Hitachi (owners of G-Tech), and I like Hitachi drives, but the Spinpoint were better-rated for speed, noise and heat. They've been great, btw, and I'll probably move to 1TB drives if Samsung brings out 7200rpm versions of the Spinpoint.

Through all that, the drive has performed flawlessly - the fan might have gotten just a wee bit louder, but it's still very quiet and non-intrusive (no whine - just the sound of moving air). It's fast and roomy, and I completely trust it at this point. I carry important documents and large files with me daily, and can't afford to lose a copy of something that I am given by my clients. This drive is a nice bit of insurance in that regard, and I highly recommend it.

Cons Review
500 GB G-RAID mini . The FIRST time I used this hard drive the built-in-fan broke & the hard drive is now completely useless. I'm sure that this is uncommon so early in ownership, but I have heard that these drives are notorious for having the built-in-fans go bad eventually anyway. What a bummer!
Blech . Although I think this item is discontinued, I won't buy any more G-RAID products. I've only had this drive for 2.5 years, and it's already dead (it came with a 2 year warranty, which I suppose is pretty good for a manufacturer warranty). I really didn't use it that much so I am surprised it died already. But there were a bunch of things that annoyed me about it.
- it claimed to be able to do one stream of HD. But it couldn't. It could do 1 stream of HDV, which is not a big deal at 25 mbs. I did a read/write test on it, and it wasn't fast enough to do HD despite it's claims, even using the FW800 port.
- It uses Hitachi hard drives - in this case the drives outlasted the enclosure which surprised me. But that's a substandard HDD if you ask me.
- the AC power adapter is clunky and unmanageable.

The company didn't offer any help either. They said they don't support that product anymore. And weren't very helpful in general. I get that - they can't support stuff forever. But I've been on the phone with other video companies (like Varizoom) and they bend over backwards to help you. These folks don't seem to care.

The only saving grace is that I was able to pull out the hard drives (two 250 g drives) and reformat them. That's about $100 worth back.

TS-259 PRO+ 2BAY Turbonos ATOM D525 1.8GHZ 1GB RAM

This review is from : QNAP 2-Bay iSCSI Hotswapped SATA Dual-LAN Network Attached Storage TS-259-PRO+-US
High End Fool Proof Storage . I researched NAS units for two months before finally purchasing this unit. The feature set for this unit is plentiful and complete. I am not a sophisticated techie, but know enough that the features included with this unit should satisfy the most demanding small office or home media center NAS, I populated the bays with Hitachi 3 TB drives that are listed as compatible on the QNAP website. This unit is quiet and should be satisfactory for home use in a media/entertainment environment. Performance wise it is fast enough to stream HD/BluRay to my televisin over a wired connection. As my wireless router is an old Linksys 54GS I haven't tried wireless and doubt that it would be acceptable. I am looking into dual band wireless N routers and if I make that switch I'll revise this review.

The software included with this unit is really a strong point. You can automatically back up your entire network, download torrents, ftp files and http file, check drive health and operating temperatures, set up new users, groups and permissions, serve media to your media player and several other functions I have yet to explore. The torrent download software included in the software package works like a charm and also accepts ftp and http downloads. All downloading is done in the background meaning that once you tell it what you want it to do you can turn your computer off and it goes about its business. Same for file copying as it is actually a server and functions as such on my home network. The interface to the unit is web based and very well laid out (read easy to use).

There is a quirk with firmware updating that QNAP is working through (you can read their forums for details) but I have yet to upgrade the firmware in this unit subscribing to the "if it ain't broke...." theory of hardware maintenance. You'll have to decide for yourself if this is a deal breaker.

Before I ramble any further, the bottom line is I really feel that two months of research has netted me a top flight NAS that is upgradable and will carry me into the next few years nicely.
QNAP 2-Bay iSCSI Hotswapped SATA Dual-LAN Network Attached Storage TS-259-PRO+-US Reviews
Great Product . We use this product in conjunction with server grade HD's as a data server for our small office. It is great, the interface is easy to run (you dont have to know linux)
Permissions are easy to setup and maintain. In addition, its small, takes almost no power, and runs very cool.

If you dont need all the bells and whistles of a full Server OS, then this is the way to go. We just popped two 1TB drives in there and set up the RAID, and away we went.

No complaints just yet. Recommended for all small offices who need flexible, secure and scalable storage solutions.

Cons Review
Good NAS - Horrable customer service . I bout this NAS because it has a strong feature set. The first unit I received would lock up about every two to three days and become unresponsive. I put in three calls to QNAP's technical support. I NEVER received a call back. I then submitted an online request for support. Three days later I still had not received a reply. I finally contacted Amazon and they replaced the unit for me. A day after I got the replacement unit I finally got a canned response via email that told me to wipe the unit and start over.... Obviously not very helpful...This is a good NAS with a strong feature set. It is fast and reasonably quite. However, the tech support is almost non-existent from the manufacture. If you are not tech savvy, I highly recommend you chose a NAS from a manufacture that is willing to help you out if an issue arises. The only help you will get is from the on-line community of users. QNAP will ignore you...

Worth every penny . After researching several drives, I decided to go with this one because of it's high ratings on several sites. I am not dissappointed!! Running multiple portable apps does not slow it down. The only negative that I have about this product is the jetflash software is a little quirky. Very good buy.
Transcend Jet Flash 110 - 1 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive TS1GJF110 Reviews
Built cheap. . This drive works fine as far as flash memory goes. And it beats losing the cap because there is none. I have three SanDisk Titanium drives. Two which are now broken and cannot be used. SanDisk has replaced two of the drives a total of three times. Now they say I'm breaking them and won't replace them. The fact is, I am not breaking them. They just don't hold up. I travel from jobsite office to jobsite office. I plug the drive into a computer about 20 times a week. They hold up for about three months then they either physically break at the male part of the drive or the slide mechanism wears out and the slide won't lock in the out position. SO I gave up on SanDisk and am now trying the Transend drive. I have had it a few weeks and it is already looking like it's not going to hold up. The materials and assembly appear and feel cheap, so I would be surprised if it lasts more than a month or two. I back up the data about three times a week just in case. If you are an occasional user or just leave the drive plugged into the machine most of time it's worth the buy. But if you use it how it's meant to be...as a travel drive...then find a more durable drive.

Great Look . I love this product. I always had the problem of loosing the cap on my flash drives, but this I don't have to worry about it. The slide lock protects the usb port when using the flash drive. I recomend this product for anybody that is looking for a fast and easy to use flash drive.
Inexpensive with a good transfer rate. . I considered a number of USB flash drives before selecting the Transcend JetFlash 1GB USB Flash Drive - TS1GJF110. I selected it based on transfer speed and low cost. I have had no troubles with the drive. It has a pretty blue LED. I am completely satisfied with this purchase.
It Works . Fine product, gets the job done. I just don't like how the port slides in and out of the case and doesn't have a cover to protect it. Something could accidentally get spilled down in there or in my case, my 2 year old figured out how it works and when she gets a hold of it she makes it go in and out. Easily damaged in the hands of the wrong person.

Cons Review
Not Dependable . I bought this about two years ago for critical files. I had a 256 MB Kingston Data Traveler but wanted something with more memory. I opted for this as the price was good and it had reasonably good reviews.

Well, after having it one year it started going bad. In addition, it doesn't work in some USB ports on a consistent basis. Unfortunately, I bought a 4 GIG Transcend, which is still working but it's not dependable. I've only had it about a year. On the other hand, the old Kingston is as solid and dependable as it ever was. And I've owned it about four years.

Bottom line: If you want to store mission critical files, don't buy this. Invest more money and get a Kingston Traveler. I have another flash drive but haven't owned it long enough to recommend it yet. I can, however, recommend the Kingston.

But stay away from Transcend unless you just want something cheap for files you can afford to lose and if you want a throw-away.

The Red Cap and Length Are a Problem . If you don't care about the difficult cap, this tiny little drive seems to work perfectly (I use Macs). So if you need a jump drive to occasionally archive data and store it in a separate location, this is great. However, if you are using it for daily usage, it's so tiny that it's nearly impossible to slip into a USB port when adjacent USB cables are plugged in. And good luck getting the red cap to correctly fit into the black base when you want to plug this jump drive into a port.

If you need to use a jump drive on a daily basis, I'd get one of the Kingston drives that's all-in-one, where you don't need to worry about losing the cap and it's long enough that you can get it in and out of a tight space when there are surrounding cables plugged into the adjacent ports. I like Kingston drives and didn't think the small size and design would be a problem, but it is.

MP3 File Library for Car Radio . I purchased the 8GB Kingston Mini Fun USB drive to hold MP3 file songs. It will remain inserted into the USB slot of a Pioneer DEH-P5200HD car radio. It functions similar to having an iPod attached, but without the cords. Pioneer recommends against leaving a USB drive permanently attached, I assume because of the risk of damage. Therefore, I wanted a short drive to reduce the risk of it being hit accidentally. Additionally, the radio is mounted in the corner of an RV, so the exposure to being hit is minimal.

The drive comes from Kingston formated as FAT32, and I left it that way. I had no problems copying the files to the device. I have tested it out on the radio and have had no problems displaying, searching, or playing the music files.

The black cover is made of a soft silicone material that is approximately 5/16 of an inch thick and 15/16 of an inch long (black silicone portion only). The width of the black cover is approximately 3/4 of an inch. The red cover is slightly shorter (7/8 of an inch long), and can be attached to the end of the black cover.

I do not have any test software to measure transfer rates, but I did run some tests to get an idea of relative speed compared to an SDHC card. The comparision card is a Kingston 8GB SDHC Class 4. It was about half full with other data and formated as FAT32. The computer used is an older machine with Windows XP.

Write Test (Copying from the hard drive to the eternal memory device):
- Mini Fun: 9 minutes, 56 seconds.
- Kingston SHDC: 12 minutes, 40 seconds.

Read Test (Copying from the external memory device to the hard drive):
- Mini Fun: 5 minutes, 20 seconds
- Kingston SDHC: 6 minutes, 3 seconds

The test library consisted of a header folder with mulitple sub folders for artist/albums, and 628 mp3 song files.

The Properties display for the Mini Fun after copying the files shows:
- Capacity 7.44GB
- Used space 2.29GB
- Free space 5.15GB

Bottom line is I give this 5 stars since it worked in both the computer and radio without any compatibility problems, and it did not demonstate any lack of speed issues when playing the songs. Price was was under 13 bucks, so the value is good. It does what a USB drive does without giving me any problems and it blends in well with the radio.

Note: Photo of the drive and radio posted as a customer image.

Good value not so good build quality . Fun USB flash drive packaged inside a toy-like rubber block the size of a pencil eraser. Unfortunately both ends detach making the actual electronic component easy to lose.
Good but not complete . It works well, does what it is supposed to..transfer time is not bad at all. Only thing is that it has 7.44 storage space and not 8 GB.
