PS3 backup . I bought this to back up my ps3 with as i have too many games for a simple flash drive and my ps3 wouldn't read my 1 Terabite external hard drive. had no problems whatsoever backing up my data from my ps3 to this hard drive and with it being 500gb i shouldn't have to worry about it running out of room. great size and a bonus is mine came with a protective sleeve. definitely worth the money!

Plug and play PS3 compatible USB hard drive! . This hard drive is basically a massive thumb drive, because it uses the Fat 32 file system that is compatible to the PS3 and all of it's files. I requires no formatting and it comes with the root files (photo, music, game, video, etc folders) necessary to immediately copy data to and from the PS3. It can also be used on your PC, TV, printer, etc and can become your main external hard drive for transport of data or for backups.
The main selling point or appeal of this drive is currently it is the ONLY pre-formatted external hard drive available in Fat 32. All others must be modified and formatted, which can take time and require special programs that aren't 100% reliable. Although it is a bit more expensive than other external drives it saves you the agony and trouble of having to partition and format your new drive to use it with the PS3. I have witnessed (friends of mine) and read several horror stories online concerning incompatibility and formatting issues with most external hard drives and the PS3, especially when formatted with recent versions of windows. Windows OS only allows you to create small partitions (not to exceed 32GB) instead of allowing you to format the entire 500GB. So you essentially end up with a bunch of smaller drives, which won't allow you to save large files, such as entire hard drive backups, or massive game or movie files. If you want a drive that you don't have to mess with and that you can literally just plug and play, this is the only game in town. When you are dealing with long backups, sensitive data and important restores you don't want to have to worry if it will work or fail. This works perfectly with the PS3 and it recently came in handy....
I bought it mainly for use with my PS3s and specifically to back up both systems, but have recently started using it to store files from my PC, movies, photos and music. My first PS3 fat recently was affected by the "yellow light of death" and I nearly lost all of my video, game saves, photos, and music stored on that system. I was able to get the system running temporarily (a few days) with a quick fix I found online and I used this external hard drive to back it up. I then was able to swap the 320GB hard drive out of my dead PS3 into my new slim without deleting anything, and backup both system's entire hard drives. Now when I get another slim I can use the Digistor to restore the data from my dead PS3 on the new one. Some game saves are copy protected and can only be salvaged by backing up your entire system and can't be copied or moved one at a time. Because I am using about 100 GB of space on both PS3's I needed a drive that could back up both entirely in case of a future failure or the YLOD. This drive can also come in handy for hard drive swaps, and will allow you to use the back up utility without deleting anything off your systems. I have already used it for both and it had no issues. It is fairly small and it comes with a body glove protective case and a short USB cable. It is also compatible with the PS3 controller USB cable because it uses the same female connector as the controller. It is extremely quiet and if not for the small LED power light I wouldn't even know it was powered on.
In conclusion, if you are a PS3 owner I highly recommend this drive. The YLOD can strike any PS3 at any time and it is wise to plan ahead to minimize your losses. Must have for upgrading PS3 HDD and great for holding media . What can I say that hasn't already been said? This HDD is preformatted for PS3, it has all the folders needed for video, music and photos. If youre planning on upgrading your PS3 HDD (the internal one) you have to have a place to backup your current PS3 HDD because the new one you put in will be blank.This works perfect for PS3 backup. You run the PS3 backup application in the settings of the PS3, choose the USB drive and bam, you get a PS3 backup on the device. Then you open up the side of your PS3 replace the internal HDD with a bare notebook size SATA drive boot back up, plug in the Digistor drive and choose "restore" from the settings and you'll have all your game saves, downloads, etc restored to the new internal HDD.After you're done you have a huge drive to keep backing up your PS3 regularly. There's plenty of space for divx movies, mp4's mp3, pics etc. It's a USB 2.0 drive, but so is the PS3 ports so there's no real limitation there. Oh and its tiny, you don't have to plug it in the wall, so those are two major benefits for me.For the ease of use, and the peace of mind of backing up the PS3 with video and music storage, it is priced pretty well.

Good for back up . Okay, so I bought this thinking I'd be able to plug and play by saving my psn games to it. Turns out, there is no way of doing that because of some security thing. Still, I was able to back up my ps3 to this. So it wasn't a total loss. Except for the fact that the back up will only work on the exact same ps3. Still, I have movies and pictures saved on there which saved up a lot of space on it regardless.
fast and easy . Works just as described... plug into PS3 and copy/ save as you would with any other thumb drive or sd card... no need to mess around with formatting or worry if the PS3 will supply the needed power... that being said if you do your homework and you're confident you can do the formatting yourself it may be cheaper to get a different hard drive...This is basically a generic hard drive that was pre-formatted and configured for the PS3... comes with a small sleeve case and usb connection cord... the cord is short, so you may want to just use the usb cords used for charging the PS3 controller...perfect for backing up saved games (or using the backup feature of the ps3)... great for people who don't want to format the drive themselves...
Awesomw for PS3!! . Great for transferring music and movies with our taking up space on the PS3 internal hard drive, I now how plenty of space on my machine pocket size ans comes with padded case. Good Buy for the money
Great! . This drive is wonderful! If you have lot's of music, pictures, or video taking up precious hard disk space on your PS3 this is the product for you. It's also useful for backing up your system, if you ever want to upgrade your PS3's hard disk drive or the system itself. Simple to use, just plug in and you are ready to go, no AC adapters which is nice. Also very small and portable. The only downside to the drive is that you cannot save games to the external drive. So if your PS3's memory is full from a lot of games, then you are better off just replacing the internal hard disk drive in the PS3 itself. Overall great product and so easy to use.
For Being Made for PS3 leaves you wanting... well a lil. . OK, here is the thing the Hard drive is nice, it is pretty shiny black. It is a PlugNplay so setup was easy. Now i may have gotten a bad one but i doubt, but the transfer rate could be alot faster, and when you go to your movies or photos that you have put on the HDD it has to count every file and for movies it can be awhile. Here is an example I have 293 movies i put them on the HDD while i went to work i then came home and went to the file in the portable HDD and it was showing 1 movie at a time being "counted" which took 8 mins to complete before i had full access to all my movies and it does this everytime that the ps3 is turned off it resets its count and it has to be redone. Now if your using it for a pure back up it will do just what you want, but if your like me and you wanted to add more storage to ur already beast of a ps3 (mine has a Western digital scorpio 500 GB 2.5 in sata drive) well then it will leave you wanting.... a lil lol. I say that because in the end if your a tech head like me you make anything work for you and we arn't critics at heart we are problem solvers and i'll figure out the best way to get my moneys worth from this bad boy. On a side note, its kinda nerdy cool but its fun bragging about a 1TB ps3 haha.UPDATE: So found an unlikly solution to my problem. I bought an Xbox 360.... lol. Ive been on the fence to get one so i just did and i found something kind of cool. Not only dose the drive work on the xbox 360 but when i go to my videos it is all there ready to be chosen, no waiting. So ya, lol i guess it pays to not get caught up in the console war.UPDATE: Ok, only 16 GB works for the xbox game data and stuff..super lame. I did'nt configure the drive because it will display my Video and Pics without so and actually dose it better and faster then the ps3 So it still serves its function but i thought i could download games on it and with only 16 Gigs well 15.9 to be exact your not really getting many games on it. Whats weird is even Digistor's Xbox one will only save 16Gb of games. Who buys a 500Gb hdd to only use 16 of it? I also found that i cannot save games to this drive on the PS3 either...at all. I was a lil let down by that but in the end i could look past it because my Video library is getting big and with atleast 4 more years with the PS3 i figure i could still see big use's out of having the drive.
