Solid hardware; mediocre software . In terms of hardware and basic specs, this Thecus NAS is exactly what it is billed as: feature rich and fast. I purchased two, because Iwanted to run a remote rSync through my VPN to backup information to a remote location. Basic installation was easy, and the bays are simple to work with.
However, the software is not at all straightforward. And documentation is weak. There is a user forum which is heavily trafficked. The problem is that its very hit or miss as to whether your search topic is discussed. Many core features, such as SSH and access protections, are available, but not at all straightforward to set up. What's more, once they are set up it is quite difficult to validate that they are working. I am no networking expert, but I am not a luddite either. It took 2 weeks of troubleshooting and testing to finally get the rSync function working remotely (the reason that I purchased 2), and it is still not fully stable...
