Solid good looking external burner . this is the kind of drive you can just chuck into your bag and not really worry about. the plastic has a nice matte 'eggshell' finish that shouldnt sratch easily. hides fingerprints really well too.
its shows up as PIONEER DVR-K06 in device manager, which is a nice deal because i thought this was just a generic drive (the price was lower then what it is at time of review, not sure why it hiked up).
the only real thing i dont like is the noise it makes when the cd comes in and out. it sounds like its scratching the disc on hard plastic, and the cd even sticks a little while it ejects... hard to explain, but if you slide a cd around on a textured countertop you would get the idea. whatever it is, it clearly isnt hurting the cd's at all. i cannot even see fine minute scratches, so really its just a crummy noise it makes when you slide the cd in and out- functionality is not effected. the actual function of the slot load mechanism does seem VERY solid. i have used cheap slot load drives before, this is not one of them.
you do need two usb ports. one port and the drive will show up on the computer, but you need two ports to get enough power to spin up the cd. overall, its a quiet drive, only audible really when its at high speed.

It works as advertised . The memory worked without a hitch in my GF's HP laptop and increased the speed at which applications popped up and ran. I bumped it to 3g from 1 .
The slot loading burner works fine, no issues yet. It is attached to my Acer netbook to burn backup disks and reload to fac defaults after having my browser hijacked.

Cons Review
Poorly constructed unit was DOA . Very cheap feeling plastic case, poorly constructed unit was dead on arrival. Any disk inserted was immediately ejected by the unit. Software package is junk, lame no-name app to write files to disk, windows can do that without any help at all ... I returned the unit and will look for another brand name model. This is one to avoid in my opinion.
