The Good The Great The Working . This external is very nice i researched top of the line drives and multiple credible sites rated it in the top 5 brands as well as model for the brand. Easy to use, Large space perfect for music library as well as your friends haha. only complain is there were several gigs missing when i looked at the drive on my computer seems like way to much for even the software it holds and why even advertise the gigs if you don;t get fully what your paying for, it is an expensive little piece of metals and plastics. it would make me a lot happier if they just had the software space included so you actually get you 640 gigs. Great buy worth the money and best of all extremely easy to use.

Works great . I bought this hard drive to replace a larger 1TB drive that I dropped and ruined. I use it to run Linux on my work desktop without having to reformat the drive inside the desktop. The little backup button is useless in Linux, but I'm not sure I care. My whole reason for buying the drive was to have a sturdy, fast, large capacity drive, that could withstand being bumped and jostled around. It definitely meets my needs.Edit on 9-26-2011: Almost 3 months later and it's still working great. It might be helpful to know that this drive does *not* use an external power adapter/transformer out of the box. It uses two separate USB cables (one power and one data+power) to draw the power it needs. I think it's more portable that way, but if you want to free up a USB port, you can always plug the thinner power cable into a USB wall charger. I had to do this recently when I ran out of USB ports.

Perfect..! but with one question. . this is a very small and tough external hard drive. im sure that it works properly but my only qustion/complaint is that i cant figure out how to make it start using usb 3.0? It says there should be a blue light when in 3.0 and a orange light when using 2.0 well all i have seen yet is a orange light. i am good with computers and figuring electronicts out, but i have been all over the computer and into properties but cant get it on 3.0. my computer is windows 7 with I3 processor and 4GB of ram, its only about 3 months old so its not the computers fault. I still think the hard drive is very good, but its just my fault not figuring it out..
please, if anyone can help me or has had this problem and figured it out please comment..!

Not as friendly to use as I expected. . I should have thought out this purchase a little better. Having to use two usb ports is turning out to be a pain. And since Western Digital makes a smaller, larger capacity portable usb 3.0 drive that DOESN'T need two cables (or a power plug), I don't understand this concept. And the cables aren't even the same lentgh, which is mildly irritating, as the 3.0 one is pretty short. Also, the software that comes with it for backup, is limited. It forces you to use it's pre-chosen file system, and has a very clunky interface. It does work, and it is 3.0 fast, but just doesn't stand up to the competition. The only thing I can't comment on, is the ruggedness of it, which was another selling point to me. It feels very solid, but I'm not willing to toss it around to see how it holds up.
Oh, and the WD drive comes with a soft case, which this doesn't. No one thing is overwhelmingly bad, or frustrating, but together they add up to disappointment in my case.
