Creates a duplicate bootable copy of your SATA Hard Drive. Is your computer starting to run slower? Are you worried that your hard drive may crash and you may lose all of your valuable data? You are not alone! That is why Aluratek has created the AHDDUB100 a perfect solution to duplicate the exact content currently stored on your computers Sata Hard Drive. What’s unique about this product vs any other external hard drive is that all of your OS (operating system) and program files are “duplicated” in addition to your data files making this a complete backup solution which is bootable. Why is being bootable so important? Because if/when your hard drive fails and you insert your duplicate copy hard drive you don’t miss a beat. Your computer will start up and all of your program files including the OSF (operating system files) will be restored along with your outlook contacts and personal settings.

Very easy to use... saved my data when my MB crashed . Excellent product. Really. Just snap one drive in the top, then the other. Hit one button and your are duplicating (bit-for-bit).

THis comes in handy when you want to CLONE your hard disk. I cloned my operating system drive. When my other HD crashed, I just snapped this in and "presto" windows 7 nor my laptop could tell the difference.

For those that don't know, if you try to ever use another harddrive, you'll have to reinstall windows, re-activate windows (which means talking to india for 10 hours with no success). If you can clone your drive, all is well.

When you're not duplicating, you can plug it in USB and use it as a data backup drive. Very cool.

If I could add one feature, it would be to give it a e-sata plugin so you could transfer data even faster (since all the newer laptops have this now).

Also recommend getting the exact same hard drive or at least the exact same size. Has to be same or larger, but it just makes things smoother.

Good product... Well done!
Aluratek External SATA Portable External Hard Drive Duplicator AHDDUB100 Reviews
Easy to Duplicate... But Think Carefully Before You Press that Button . I recently duplicated my 100GB HD to a 120GB SSD, and realized that it also made the SSD 100GB in side. To the operating system, it IS a 100GB drive. I emailed tech Aluratek support, who suggested me to Partition Magic, which is no longer made, and then a different software, which did not work. And, that was the last time I heard from Aluratek. Obviously, Aluratek does not have a tool or know of a tool that would reverse what this device does to your drive - so think twice before you purchase this...

Does it do what you want? If you want to transfer data from a drive to another same-sized drive, this is a great tool! If you don't care about no utilizing all the space on your new drive, this is a great tool. To be fair to Aluratek, I had duplicated a few drives successfully!!! But, if you don't want to waste any disk space on the new drive, especially those expensive SSD drives, there are software that duplicate your boot disk to another, and allow you to then extend the new disk to its full size without having to waste any space. EASEUS Partition Master is one such tool, although it's a little late for me.

Hope this helps.

Aleratec Sata Hdd Duplicator Usb Hdd Docking Station . pros : duplicating approx 4gb / min
easy use for docking , make you an hard disk external

cons : slow duplicating
very hot drive after duplicating..
Great device . This was my first HD duplicator/docking station and I am hesitant to stray away from it now that I left it behind for my replacement to use and need a new one. It flawlessly copied hard drives (watch out if you are going smaller HD to larger HD because you will have to extend the partition), provided a data recovery option when laptop mother boards/graphics cards died, and was much simpler than using Ghost/Ping 3.0.

The only issue I had was that the power cord stopped tightly fitting into the docking station; however, I mostly blame that on typical wear and tear from its use.
Incredible Bargain for an Essential Tool . My main computer has three 2TB drives and one 3TB drive in slide-out mobile racks. Once a week, I remove each of the drives and pop them into the Aluratek duplicator and make a copy to one of a pair of identical SATA drives (labeled Backup 1 and Backup 2.) I rotate my backups so I always have one backup that's a week old and one that's two weeks old. One of the backups go into mobile racks in an identical backup computer, while the other backup is stored off-site.I also do nightly backups to a pair of mirrored 6TB Drobos using TrueImage Home, and my working files during the day are backed up to a pair of mirrored 32GB flash drives using Allway Sync. As you might guess, I don't tend to lose many files.I'm writing this because yesterday my main computer malfunctioned and damaged some files on two of my internal drives. After I fixed the problem, I popped my two-week-old backup drives into the computer while the Aluratek copied everything from my one-week backup back onto my internal primary drives. Today, I'm restored and back to normal, and I've ordered a second Aluratek duplicator. For $77 more, I can copy two drives simultaneously, which is a cheap convenience. The only other time I needed what this duplicator does was awhile back when the motherboard of my main computer exploded. I moved the most recent drives into the hot backup computer and continued working. It took three weeks for my repair shop to get a replacement motherboard (the system was still under warranty, so it didn't cost me anything), but the only thing I lacked was a backup computer.I wouldn't risk being without this duplicator. Backups are slow, but I usually do them overnight. If I must do them during a working day, I can use one of the backup drives in my main computer while the drive is being copied. The device does not shut down the drives when the copying is finished, so I always power it down and let them cool off before removing from the duplicator. It works fine with my 3TB drives. When copying from a smaller drive to a larger drive you need to extend the partition to the unused space to regain all the capacity. The hardest part about using this product is that you must remember to insert the source and target drives in the right slots and not reverse them (D'oh!)
Save your data This is what it will do for you! . I had my old HD in my PC getting ready to die. Was getting the hard drive will fail soon window and please back up your data etc. The bad hard drive would not let me back up or ghost over the data with the PC to a new hard drive. The Aluratek duplicator was purchased as a last effort to try and save my data. It did just that made a perfect copy of the dead 1TB hard drive onto my new 3TB hard drive and it was still a bootable drive. What ever people say bad about this will not cover up the fact that this is a Data saving tool. The Duplicator did what it said it would do and copyed my old dead drive to a new drive that I could boot on my PC.
Aluratek Extended SATA EXT hard drive . Works as advertised ..used Gparted to increase the size of partition after transferring data from a smaller drive . no issues
It works as advertised . I bought the Aluratek Duplicator to do just that, copy a bootable version of my main drive. I had a 300GB drive and upgraded to 1TB. They tell you that it's a perfect copy and it was, but it only shows the drive as a 300GB drive. So I down loaded a free copy of Partition Command and quickly expanded the section to it's full size. now I think I will buy a couple of drives and use the drive as a back up. I kept my 300GB drive as an emergency back up.
Aluratek Hard Drive Duplicator works as designed! . The unit worked perfectly. The original drive that I cloned had approximately 7 GBs worth of information etc on it. It took about 4 hrs to complete the cloning process. I did not find the drives to be any warmer than they are when operating within the computer's case. I also used a new Western Digital 1 TB Caviar Green SATA as my target drive without incident. I have not tried it as a docking station yet but I'm sure that too, will work just fine. I am completely satified with the results of this duplicator. It's well worth the investment for peace of mind, knowing that you have a backup drive ready if disaster should come your way.

Cons Review
Dont use for drives larger than 2tb!! . Purchased this product and tried to copy a 2tb drive to a 3tb drive and all data was erased. Called manufacturer and tech support informed me that the device is not compatible with 3tb drives!! Well thanks for putting that very important bit of information on the box or in the instruction manual!!
