Descent but not without some quirks . Its a good drive for basic storage but it has some rather annoying flaws

First is the Y-shape USB cable, this drive wont start up unless you have one of these, which also means that you do need 2 free USB ports.

Second is the disk format, this comes in FAT32, which is alright in terms of compatiblity with older systems, but you cant transfer any file over 4GB onto it, and since i do a fair amount of video editing with the uncompressed AVI format (1 hour of footage = 13GB), its rather annoying

Third - it cant be used with a USB hub, its kinda a downer for me since i have 3 USB ports on my laptop and i have to use all three, a simple hub cant handle the power needed for the hard drive

But overall, it is a descent hard drive for casual users who need to back up files on a semi-regular basis and dont mind sacrificing 2 usb ports to run it.
Hitachi H2200U Portable External Hard Drive - 200GB, 2.5", USB 2.0 Reviews
PS3 friendly but the bane of some laptops . Yeah, the cable is a pain. I can't use it on my laptop unless I got a USB extension so it can use both ports (one on each side - thanks Mac). But I have been using it as my main portable media for my PS3 for the last 2 years. The game system has no problem interfacing with it, although I do have to access my files by hitting OPTIONS and then selecting SHOW ALL before seeing the files.

I use 4.7GB files all the time. I don't know what that one reviewer's issue was with larger files.
Hitachi H2200U Portable External Hard Drive - 200GB, 2.5", USB 2.0 Opinions
USE THE Y USB CABLE ONLY. . I have two 200GB Storage devices. The Hitachi H2200U is the only one with the "Y" USB Cable. ONLY WILL THE H2200U BE RECOGNIZED BY YOUR SYSTEM WITH ALL THREE USBs PLUGGED INTO THE PORTS!!! It will not work with a USB 2.0 A male and Mini-B male cable. (It will be recognized as a removable device but will not appear as a drive to your OS) I use one device for MAC OS X Time Machine and the Hitachi H2200U for large ArcGIS, Revit Architecture Building Information Models (BIM) and AutoCAD files. Capacity and speed no problem.

It's performance is excellent it's durability is solid. But I still call it the Bee-achi Hitachi for it's "Y" cable dependency. Forunately the "Y" USB cable works with other USB devices that use USB 2.0 A male to Mini-B male, so I need only carry the one Y Cable.

Cons Review
Be careful . I bought this hard drive to back up my pictures and music files beacause I had to do a restore on my dell laptop. After I did the restore, I go to the hard drive and to my dismay the pictures didnt transfer. Five years worth of pictures!!!!! Lost!!!! These were basic jpegs, no reason for them not to transfer. The only thing that transfered were the folders, which I have labeled by event and date. Stupid me, for not opening each one to check the contents. You would think in this day and age the thing would tell you that your content arent being transferred. When I called customer service, they were no help, completely useless. This product gets one rating for my lost memories.
