Perfect for Growing Media LIbraries . Fantom, in my opinion, is an overlooked gem in the world of desktop storage. I've burned through countless Western Digital, Iomega, and Maxtor (pre- and post-Seagate) drives before finally learning my lesson: none of them are any better than any of the others, and they are all just this side of shoddy. Granted, I've only been using the Fantom Data Dock II for 3 months, but in that time, it's sat silently on my desk, holding nearly a TB of movies, music, and pictures (I'm using the RAID 1 configuration), returning what I want quickly and without any disturbing grinding or clicking sounds. I've learned Fantom is a favorite among Mac content creators, and I'm starting to realize why. Buy their drives. You will not be disappointed.

Fantom Drives DataDock 6 TB Hot Swap 2 Bay RAID USB 2.0/Firewire 400/Firewire 800/eSATA Raid 0,1, SPAN DDQ6000 Reviews
Great Drive - Fast Quiet Easy . I went through 3 Lacie 2Big Quadra's that were all DOA. This fantom RAID drive was easy to setup, plug in and it just worked! Its been fast and with the hot swap drives and RAID 1 will allow for a new level of protection for our family's 735GB photo/video library.
Its feels solidly built, and runs cool, which means I don't have to worry about it dying from heat exposure as many drives do.

Cons Review
drives won't format properly . ***this fantom drives datadock II 4tb raid hard drive is sold by amazon. it arrived quickly but, unfortunately, poorly padded-there were an insufficient number of air packs on two sides of the drive box and none at all at the top or bottom between it and the outer box.the hard drives were not installed in the enclosure. upon opening the packaging for the drives, i discovered they were seagate barracuda green 2tb satas designation st2000dl003.a bit of research on the internet took me to an amazon page which stated, regarding the bare drive, "While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page, it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here..."i'm quite sure that amazon had no idea that the datadock i received featured the suspect drives. anyway, whether because of damage in transit or because of an inherent problem in manufacture, the drives would not format properly when i attempted to do so using mac's disk utility program.here are additional considerations: i sent an e-mail to micronet asking how one could tell, before purchase, what company manufactured the drive(s) used in a specific fantom enclosure.here is a portion of the reply:"We use many hard disks from different manufacturers interchangeably. It
would be impossible for us to tell you which hard disk you will receive when you order a specific part."as is the case with an almost exact response from iomega regarding this very same issue, i do not believe that the company simply throws drives into enclosures without maintaining records of what is used.and, incidentally, micronet must be acutely aware of the plethora of substandard drives marketed by the manufacturers and used, ultimately, by micronet since the company provides an extremely thin one year limited warranty on the datadock.buyer beware!***
