Great product! . Received the REBIT 160 GB back-up item from Amazon.com in TWO DAYS, with free shipping! I plugged it in and it worked flawlessly! I have a USB 1.1 connector, so it took about eight hours to back-up my total hard drive, which has about 14 GB of programs and data files on it. I just let it run overnight. It surely would have been much faster, had I had a USB 2.0 connector. I do not know how it will work on replacing all backed-up programs and data files on a reformatted hard drive, or a new one.

Just plug it in, answer two questions, enter the product activation code, and voila!

Small, light, highly portable, silent, and attractive.

I couldn't be more pleased!
Rebit 160 GB Portable Backup Drive for Single PC - RSA350160 Reviews
Liked the Product! . I purchased this product due to a report in 'Consumer Reports'. It has performed great. It was easy to install. It appears to be doing just what I purchased it for... And, having been the reciepiant of a recent hard drive crash... I think this is the ticket everyone should go with.
Rebit 160 GB Portable Backup Drive for Single PC - RSA350160 Opinions
Think carefully . Installation couldn't be easier. Open the box, plug it in. You're done!
Updates automatically, let's you know about it.HOWEVER,you may only transfer info to the exact same type and model of computer. If you are considering an upgrade, this is NOT the storage system for you.
Rebit 160 GB External HD . + Very easy to use.
+ Powered by your USB port
+ Set up was very quick.
+ Plug it into your USB and it will catch up and update anything
you created, saved or added to documents.
+ If your Computer HD drive crashes...insert the recovery CD and plug
in Rebit and it will do the rest.
+ Very portable, takes very little room and comes with it's own
protective case and usb cable.
- Have had it for about a month and haven't run into anything yet!
Tricky install for me . I had to reconfigure my FAT32 in order to install, so it was not really that easy. But I did get it done, and I guess judgement day will be when my hard drive fails and I actually need to use the backup. In the mean time, the drive seems to just do its own thing when I turn the computer on. It's not a bad price for peace of mind.
It Works Now! . Initially I tried to install on a Windows XP computer and got a message, "Installing on a FAT 32 Volume is not allowed." The box didn't tell me that, and neither did anything else that I'm aware of. However, I emailed Rebit and they promptly told me how to convert my hard drive to NTFS. I did that without any loss of data, and the unit is now working just as good and easily as it is claimed to do. Well worth the price. RWZ

Cons Review
Look for an alternative . I purchased both the dedicated Rebit Save Me system (3/2009) and the multi-user Save Me system (Rebit shared disc system; 1/2010) directly from Rebit. Both are in the latest software version to date (v. 3.0.1035.8778, for Windows XP, Service Pack 3 and Windows Vista). I have consistently had problems with the product: Points to consider:

1. It notoriously fails to operate, and this is difficult to discover without consulting the Rebit-SaveMe-Error log or the Rebit-SaveMe-Tray.exe.log. The icon will appear on your task bar, leading you to believe it is operational, unless you highlight it, at which point you (sporadically) see a message stating "your grace period has expired," despite repeatedly having re-entered the product activation code. Be prepared to get to know the ostensibly single customer support representative well, although his patience is short.
2. Check your C drive format first. This product works exclusively with as NTFS file system.
This is a product consumers were hungry for, and is great conceptually. As for reality, look for a more reliable alternative. Buy your own external HDD (ceaper), so at least you salvage something when the software fails.
the back up system locks my computer . After finishing the back up, the rebit locks my computer. While the support system gave me a 9 point instruction as to what to do to find out what would cause this on my compyuter - I chose not to do this. My business is accounting and income tax preparation - and simply it was for me to dangerous to lose some files to continue with the backup system. Ease of installation is great, but if it does not work it is useless. So I delegated the unit to....you guessed it. A waste of money.
Small . I returned this item for the Rebit 500 GB. I decided that price wise the 500 GB was a much better value. You must remember that the system backs up your entire computer.
There's got to be a better way than rebit . I ordered two of the 160GB drives for my two computers.
Amazon shipped them fast, and i plugged in the first one to
windows XP........no go had to convert the Fat 32 to NF file system,
then the drive crashed.

Got fast help for email support at rebit, but they can't figure it out either.
"Hi P......,

It sounds like maybe Rebit got uninstalled. Does it show up in Control Panel - Programs? ....MY ANSWER TO THEM.... NO IT DOES NOT

Is there a start.exe on the rebit drive?....MY ANSWER ....NO

Double click to launch..... CAN NOT DOUBLE CLIK SOMETHING THAT IS NOT THERE

The other option is to reset the Rebit drive and start backing up fresh with the new OS. NO RESET BUTTON ON THE DRIVE, REQUIRES A UNLOCK CODE FROM REBIT TO DOWNLOAD NEW SOFTWARE.

Do you happen to know what version of Rebit you had? Only 6355 or later is supported on Win7.......NO VERSION IS LISTED ON THE DRIVE OR BY A RIGHT CLICK ON THE DRIVE LETTER.

SO.....
I tryed it on my second computer to be sure it had in fact died.
but is would not install..... is not supported on Windows 7 unless you have version

Good concept and might work well on Xp nt file system, but nothing in the description or box to indicate what it really will work on.
