So Far Mostly Good . I recently lived through the misery and expense of my year-old Lacie external hard drive failing. It cost me $900 (I used DriveSavers; they did a great job) to recover the ten years worth of digital photos (37,000) I lost. So I resolved to never let that happen again. Thus the purchase of this mambo RAID drive, after a moderate amount of research. I have been unable to attach it via ESATA but the problem appears to be with my Dell computer (non-functioning ESATAs seem to be a common problem on the newer ones). Firewire and USB 2.0 work great. I did have an issue where a couple of the drive failure warning lights were blinking but that is gone for now and the drive never stopped working.

I know the company was bought out but . If they keep the quality level where it is now you'll love this array. I know some will want NDS or will wait for thunderbolt connections (yeah, someday) but I hooked this up to my mini-server and it's incredible.

Noise is VERY annoying when it writes/reads . This drive looks very nice design and solid. HOWEVER, THE NOISE IS VERY ANNOYING WHEN IT WRITES OR READS. The rattling and scratching sounds is too much, especially when you drop large files. It feels like your computer is transporting date onto a unit of worn-out hard drives. The noise gets even louder if it is on the table.The fan is not so quiet as claimed. It depends where your workstation is. If your computer by the furnace or your desk by major highway, you may not hear the clicking drive and fan noise as such. But if your walls and windows are well insulated, or if you have to work late at night, the noise may aggravate you. I bought this item because I like the design and it looks beautiful. It just the noise is very annoying, until it stops writing or reading.If the noise can be an issue for you, this model may not be a good choice. If you care the design more than anything else, then the noise possibly can be tolerated.

So far so good . so far the performance of the drive is great! The real test will be to see if it holds up for a couple of years. But so far so good!
