This review is from : i-Ecko 8GB Silver Eco-Friendly USB Drive
Pleasantly Surprised . So far I'm very happy with this flash drive. I got it mainly out of dissatisfaction with every other one I've looked at these days. I browsed the i-Ecko website before I bought it and learned they're a manufacturer of "green electronics" and based in Brooklyn, NY. I couldn't find anything in Properties that tells who the actual manufacturer is, but the package says "Made in China." It comes with a one year warranty.
The first thing I noticed when I took it out of the package was its weight. It has some weight to it unlike a lot of the others. The case is a solid piece and the whole thing feels nice and sturdy. It's fairly compact. The body sticks out from my laptop 1 3/4" compared with 2 1/8" of my SanDisks.
Installation was a breeze on Vista. Just plugged it in, Windows installed the driver and that was it.
The head isn't retractable so you don't have to worry about something going wrong with the mechanism. It has a solid black cap that should be easy to keep track of (Clear and translucent caps are very easy to lose). It fits snugly at the moment but I can't say how it will wear. It goes on easy then gradually snugs up as you push it down.
It has a small red activity indicator light on top. It's enough to see if there's activity but it's not huge and in your face like the SanDisk Cruzer.
There's a place on the end where you can attach it to a key chain. It's a little on the small side though. I don't plan on putting it on a key chain, but I can see where that might be a potential problem for someone who wanted to.
It doesn't have any software pre-installed. The actual amount of free space out of the package was 7.47 GB. I transferred some files to it and all went smoothly. I'm not a techie, but the write speed seems as fast as any other USB flash drive I've used, not noticeably slower at any rate.
Only time will tell how it performs, but all in all it seems like a good flash drive.
