Awesome solution at a great price . I got a great deal on this and it, so far, has worked really well. In fact, I may buy one for my elderly parents who could really use an external backup solution. If one of their computers ever goes kaput, who knows what kind of documents they'll lose forever.
It's very simple to use with the default setup. Changing the parameters is pretty easy as well, just a little cumbersome. It makes you walk through things, step by step, which is great for a luddite but can be tiresome as you click through five or six windows just to get to a single setting you want to change.
All in all, cool item and I'll probably buy more.

Great Product for a non-Geek! . A non-Geek will like this product. It's ready to use out of box. It does it "all" as stated by the maker. The initial use will take the "entire" computer information (i.e., data related info.--- e-mails, all files, photos, movies, music, etc., but NOT programs)and back it up to your external hard drive. Depending how much information you already had stored, it may take quite some time. My system is about 4 years old and it took me almost 7 hours. I have scheduled a backup every 7 days. These sessions will only backup the new data changes added within the 7 days and take me about 5 minutes to complete (guess I don't really add that much data in a week). Let me state at this point, I HAVE NOT had the need nor the opportunity to use the actual restore backup (i.e., the save/restore feature). My system is still stable so there has been no need. I assume, reasonably I hope, that all will have been copied and easy to down load to a new system. I have a simple personal computer with no fancy bells and whistles and have found this item to fit my needs very well. If I were to upgrade to a new system, with new programs, I do not know how the saved information will be incorporated to it. Keeping this limited use in mind, at this point I can only give this product the highest rating, and pray that when needed, it will continue to perform with simplicity & completeness. If I have the opportunity to upgrade my system, I will add to this information if I encounter any restore problems.

Great for using existing drives . This adapter is great for allowing use of existing HD's you may already have. It doesn't mirror the HARD DRIVE, but saves all the data. This is great because if you loose the HD, you're toast anyway. Just start over and don't bring in all the other garbage that's been collecting. The security that all data files (folders) are saved is wonderful.
Great for non Geeks . I had been using Carbonite, and had a very bad experience when they lost all my QuickBooks files and could not recover them. So I switched to an external drive to back up my PC.
This gadget makes things so easy for a person who uses a computer like most people drive cars... I know enough to get gas, have the oil changed etc. but the only thing I do myself is get gas.
The Click-free gives me a confidence that my back up has been done correctly. I read about this device in a review in the Sunday paper, and had a friend read the review before I ordered it. Now she wants one.

Cons Review
Not Worth The Trouble It Caused . I purchased the Clickfree Automatic Backup Transformer from Amazon.com, hooked it up to my new Dell PC and my new Western Digital 1 TB external hard drive and booted-up my Windows 7 platform PC. It backed-up everything on my PC's hard drive fast and without a problem.
Pros: (1) It does what it's supposed to do; (2) it's intuitave; (2) easy to use; (4) and fast; (5) and it backs-up only updated files.
Cons: (1) Most of my files, ex. digital images, music, etc., are stored only on my old Western Digital external hard drive rather than on my PC's hard drive. Since there's no way to connect the Clickfree between two external hard drives, I'll have to copy those files from my old external hard drive onto my PC's hard drive and back them up from there to the new external hard drive via Clickfree. (See Update Below)
(2) The Clickfree cable is way too short, making it difficult to make the connection between the PC's USB and the external hard drive.
Update: 04-16-2010 ... Clickfree caused my Roxio Easy Cd and DVD Burning DE Home (Ver. 10.3.106) to freeze up. After spending hours on-line with a Dell computer tech (who was of no assistance), and paying a local computer tech $120 to isolate and correct the problem caused by Clickfree, it was found that Clickfree interfered with my (PLDS DVDRWBD DH-6E2S) BluRay DVD burner causing it to malfunction. This, in turn, caused Roxio to freeze up.
Summary: Given the cost of this product, coupled with the expense (twice the cost of the Clickfree), and time wasted in determining and correcting the problem Clickfree caused, I wouldn't recommend this product to a friend.

Did not back up all my files found out when computer crashed . I bought this Clickfree Transformer. It appealed to me because of the perceived ease of operation and versatility across multiple systems. I plugged it in, utilized the embedded program, and thought I had backed up all my files. However, when my hard drive crashed, I went back to see what was actually available and discovered the Clickfree had not backed up all of my email files (I have multiple MS Outlook pst files) or other documents on my desktop and My Docs. While I have a unique setup because my computer occasionally syncs to a corporate server, I would have expected that this device could still find Outlook file and those on My Docs and Desktop.
So far so bad(Edited) . I received this device the other day, hooked it up and spent about an hour trying to get it to work. I connected with customer service, and after 20 minutes was told that it does not work with iTunes 9, and I have to wait until 4/29 when Clickfree creates a patch. So, until then I have a $60 nothing. I will update after the patch experience.
In August I finally got my replacement Clickfree gizmo and it worked fine. So, I am satisfied with the devioe.
