Startech 3.5" Hard Drive Enclosure UNI3510U2EB Drive Enclosures
This review is from : StarTech.com 3.5IN Black Esata USB 2.0 To Ide Sata External HDD
I have 5 of these cases ! . I've used one of these cases for over a year. It's extremely easy to setup for either IDE or SATA drives. I had no problems with internal connections as indicated by some reviewers. These cases run smoothly and silently (and they are hot swappable!). My data library now consists of several individual external hard drives, 1 old IDE and mostly large SATA's. They are used intermittently but for several hours at a time (between 4 to 6 hrs). All drives run cool (because of the built-in fan) and flawlessly. Needless to say I've had no problems with the recently purchased cases. I had 1 case, then I bought 4 more - what better recommendation can I give?!

Why didn't I buy this sooner??? . This device has been great! It's already paid for itself. Having a connector for both SATA and IDE has been a winner for me. The device itself is durable with the exception of the fan screen vent. If you're not careful you can push the screen through. It's easily snapped back in but you just have to keep in mind not to put pressure on it when sliding the unit together.

Cons Review
Worked well for 5 months... . I needed my external exclosures to run for long periods of time without stopping and under some vibrations since I live in California. It was cool and that helped a lot, but it just died on me when it hit the 5 month mark. I suppose this enclosure is for you if you decide to not use it all the time. But if you want a dedicated external drive, then this one is not for you. It was outlived by an already tested Western Digital's My Book series drive(bought 4 months prior to using this external), and that hd external series has many problems among its customers already.
It's a good thing that it did not affect the hard drive in it.

Not recommended. . I bought this because it doesn't require screws. The case slides open, and there are two gray plastic side pieces inside that snap closed to hold the drive in place. Easy.
Not so easy to fit the cables in. Even connecting/disconnecting them with the circuit board is hard. Also -- and this applies to the SATA cable especially -- you have to twist and squeeze the cables to position them right, and to fit inside the case. The squeeze gets even tighter when the case closes.
I'm not comfortable even trying it with SATA drives, not with the cables squeezed that way. (See the picture I uploaded.)
At least it was relatively easy to re-open the case and remove the drive. No screwdriver required. But I'm not going to screw around with this case anymore.
