Thunderbolt Microdrive CF USB 2.0

Best One I ever used . This item is the best in its class for several reasons. I'll get to those in a moment. First and foremost, lets take a look at flash memory. First, there must be power to both the reader and card for the memory to "Move" or be read. Many cheap readers don't get this fact. They tie the power of both devices together and hope for the best, but they don't understand that the existence of one is completely independent of the other. It provides a way to test the working order of the reader if it can power without a card inserted and show it. Those readers that wait for a card before powering up only draw current across the card, making it very possible to fry a card and lose your photos. This company just gets it. I want something that won't lose my photos, no matter what OS I plug into. If the reader is read first, and then the photo card, it alows the OS to set up what it needs to to make throughput of data its fastest. Why is this reader the best of the 15 or so I have ever used? It can withstand being carried, bounced around and slammed; and it is safe to use (doesn't lose photos the way the others did). It really doesn't matter how you plug this thing in, with a card or without, it will never pull current across the card until the reader is powered and read. Even if the reader is surged, it's less likely you will lose photos (it has happened once, and I bought another one of these right away, checked photos, they were fine; I repaired the usb port and continued my work). If you find a product that functions the same, you should let everybody know. Many of these types of devices are great, but there are instructions that tell you exactly how to connect everything. What if you forget the order and cant find instructions and you're on a deadline? With this device, plug in and go. Many of the devices manufactured by this company are made similar. Buy while the buying is good. These aren't disappearing, they are just being expanded. Most you find are for multiple card types, but the same power functions apply.

SmartDisk THUNDERBOLT HI-SPEED USB 2.0 ( CM-28000 ) Reviews
Great reader! . I am a professional photographer for a national wire service and have to work in all sorts of environments and locations. Priority one is to get photos out fast! The Thunderbolt card reader is easy to carry and works fast. I use two Thunderbolts connected to a USB hub. This way I can download 2 cards at the same time. The only downside is that they usually last about 1 to 1 1/2 years. They are cheap enough and fast so I don't care. I use the readers almost everyday multiple times. So if you are not using it as much it should for a long time. I have been using these for at least 6 years or longer. I usually buy 3 or 4 at a time so I have spares. I will continue to buy these as long as they are available.

SmartDisk THUNDERBOLT HI-SPEED USB 2.0 ( CM-28000 ) Opinions
Fastest download product for your CF's. . I have other devices including the Delkin 32 bit PCMCIA card. This device is faster for my 4GB CF cards full of RAW files.
I worry a little about the rotating USB connector. Over time this could be a point of failure. But for the past two months I have enjoyed the extra fast downloads.

Inexpensive and Does the Trick . I have owned numerous card readers in the last few years and I am always seeking one that will download images quicker. This card reader claimed to be faster and it was relatively cheap, so I bought it. I am very happy with my purchase. The card reader may well be the fasted I have owned. Also I like how it swivels for easy manageability with my laptop. I highly recommend this card reader. For its price it is a great value!
