Very Solid Portable Drive . I bought the eGo to back up my Powerbook. It is very solidly-built; light, but it simply feels well-built. It is a bit bigger than some portable drives, but it seems like the extra mass is to protect the internal workings. Operation is very quiet and smooth. I got the Firewire version, so I would be able to boot my Mac from it if I needed. Iomega includes both a firewire cable, and a dual (power and data y-split) USB cable. I had no problems powering the unit off of just Firewire, but plugged both the firewire cable and the USB cable in at the same time. It worked great, using the firewire as the data cable. I used Apple's Hard Drive Utility to format it for my Mac before I started, and it went along flawlessly. Hard drives, themselves (minus the enclosures), are hit and miss at times when it comes to reliability, but this one feels good and reliable to me. No problems at all yet.
Also, I had very speedy, no-nonsense delivery from J&R Music.

Excellent for Mac and PC users- Iomega eGo FireWire 400/USB 2.0 250GB . I'm a mac guy who also works with PC's. I have gone thru 4 different drives/manufacturers only to find a USB power issues, plasticky build quality and slow transfer rate.
This Iomega kicks the others to the curb. I can use it with my Powerbook over Firewire- no extra cables to slog. The includes USB, has a power teather already built into the Y. Mounts instantly on both Mac and PC. Metal case (the WD feels cheap and plastic + scratches easy), solidly built- no edges to catch on a pocket (like the WD). Comes with kinda wimpy software, but at least its Retrospect, which has made MAC software for a couple of decades.
I keep my library of Music, Movies and Images on this drive, No lag or cross platform issues...
I'm happy. Finally.

A solid product but... . ...strangely, it takes an unusually long time to eject off my desktop. I have a MacBook Pro using Leopard, and when I try to eject the drive, it sits there on the desktop for up to 90 seconds before disappearing. On a PC, it doesn't take that long, but still looks like it's having a bit of a delayed reaction to the eject command. Don't get me wrong: the drive writes and reads as quickly as I could want. Just wish I could make it go away (when I must) as quickly as other drives I own.

Iomega Portable External Drive . So far it has performed flawlessly. It's super quiet & works off of the "firewire" connector. It required no formatting (Mac only). Build quality is the best I've seen & very stylish. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good looking, small footprint, external firewire drive. Also consider the price for a 250 GIG drive & it quickly becomes a "no brainer".

Saved my bacon . I went on a month long honeymoon to Fiji and New Zealand with my Nikon D300. I purchased and installed successfully a larger hard drive for my Mac Book. Early on I had some system issues that caused the Mac Book to die (try fixing a Mac in Fiji) until I got home.
Fortunately I had purchased this drive as an extra precaution and had been downloading my photos to it nightly. Had an older PowerBook sent over with a small hard drive and used the Iomega to store my 6,000+ photos. Worked perfectly off both FW and USB.
Moral of the story... you can never have too much backup.

Works great . I purchased this product so that I could set up a complete backup of my pc and also have additional storage for pictures. The Iomega drive worked as advertised. It was easy to set up. The software made it easy to set up complete and incremental backups. I only needed to use one USB slot to power the drive for my Dell laptoo. A "Y" plug is included to provide additional power for those who need it.

I just brought the Iomega eGo Portable FireWire hard drive with me on a trip to the UK where I have been shooting many tens of gigabytes of photos, organizing them with Adobe Lightroom. These photos are important to me. I am using the drive with a MacBook Pro 17". It has behaved perfectly. I like the fact that it doesn't need external power. It is fast and seamless. I might as well be using the drive on my Mac.
