Excellent Product . I've had this device for a few months now and I'm very happy with it. I had tried the Western Digital product "My World Book II" 2TB device only to find that it's network data rate was extremely poor - write speeds of around 5 Mb/sec. This is with it connected through a gigabit switch to a gigabit computer. I next purchased a Lacie 2TB drive, although it was better than the WD product, it also was slow. My third attempt at getting a fast 2TB NAS device was successful with the DS207+. It typically takes me a little less than a minute (45-55 seconds) to copy a 1GB file to the device. It was fairly easy to install the 1TB drives (got them on sale at Fry's). Setting up the RAID 1 so that I had a 2TB drive was a bit confusing at first but not too difficult. The administration of the device is done through a web browser. The user interface is very nice - easy to use, clear and feature rich. The thing that makes me enjoy it most is the fact that it's fast and I haven't had any problems with it.

SYNOLOGY NAS DS207+ 2 BAY BARE BONE UNIT RAID 0 1 W ADS SUPPORT SATA2 USB Reviews
Home NAS . I have rebuilt my home network and was in need of a storage device that would not take up much space. After reading articles from [...] and looking at my budget, I decided on the Synology 207+ and it has not disappointed.
Setup was pretty straight forward and quick. I set mine up with 2 1TB Western Digital drives in a RAID 1 (mirror).
Fan noise is tolerable. Case is cheap plastic, but what in this world isn't.
Firmware needed to be updated out of the box which is no big deal, it comes with the technology territory.
The build of the RAID took a few hours not days.
My home notebook system is Macintosh OSX 10.5.5 and I also run Vista Ultimate via BootCamp/VMware. Access times and write times have been very quick.
ITunes server was easy to get running. Setting up shared folders was no big deal.
I have not yet run the local backup featue with a removable 1 TB USB drive as of yet. I am not anticipating any issues, but if there is an issue obviously I will change my review.

Great once fan noise is taken care of . Synology NAS Disk Station DS207+ High Performance 2-Bay Network Storage
I got this as a living room storage solution. it turned out the fan was way too loud for it to gain female acceptance (!) in this precious part of the home. I replace the fan for a quiter one and reduced its speed.
it still runs cool enough with a pair of 1TB WD Caviar Green drives.
Installed in a bookshelf surrounded by sound deadening padding it's now very quiet. So although such a fan mod will void warranty at least it shows it's possible to end up with a very quiet and acceptable solution in a room inhabitated by human beings. Other than this it's a very nice NAS solution that does it's thing. Remember performance is only as good as the network bandwidth between drive and computer. You optimally need a gigabit network link towards the PC to take advantage of the full performance if you need to do bulk transfers. For casual use I simply access it over WLAN and so can you.

simple to get running good deal . I bought this to upgrade from a buffalo linkstation (250GB) which was getting filled and very noisy.
Set up was very simple, and once I moved my backup data, music, pictures, and movies over it was the last time I thought about it. Runs like a champ and the hibernate feature makes me feel comfortable that it's not wearing down and wasting energy.
I have a single 1tb drive in it now, but I'll get another in a few months for redundancy.

Very good... almost perfect . I should start by saying that I'm an advanced computer user... not a network specialist. This NAS has features I'll never use. It was easy to set up and works very reliably. Unfortunately, the performance isn't what I had expected based on reviews I had read prior to purchase. That really hasn't impacted my use of the device on a day-to-day basis. I mostly notice it when I copy a group of new photos or mp3s to the device. I just takes longer than I would have expected to complete the copy procedure. As I said, I'm not a network specialist... so there may be settings on my router or in the device itself that might be configured to improve my throughput... but I may never find them! One other very minor issue is the time it takes to come out of 'hibernation'. I found that I had to try to access the server a couple times and then wait a minute for it to wake up. It doesn't sound like that big a deal... but after dealing with the wait every day for a couple of weeks when I turned on the computer after getting home from work I couldn't take it. I was forced to turn off hibernation. I've been using the device for several months without any (other) problems. It has a lot of cool features that I'm hoping to be find the time to investigate (eventually!)
-------
I eventually realized that the ports on my router were only 10/100 Mbps ports. I just upgraded my router to one with gigabit ethernet ports. Now I'm getting exactly the throughput I was expecting. I still wish the speed for waking from hibernation was faster... but the throughput speed was a router issue, not an issue with the NAS!

Excellent product . Bought this for media storage and having remote access to it and have been using this for over a month with no problems. Threw in two 1 TB WD Greens in it. So easy to setup and so many great features with it. Synology is also constantly upgrading the firmware/software for it (be sure to check out Synology's forums).
Not bad . Nice product that does everything expected. The reason for 3 stars is network issues. Sometimes the drive sporadically cuts off access from my Win XP and I need to reboot the device. Support blames it on network issues, though I have not been able to pin down when and why it happens. No issues from my Mac.
Cons Review
Synology DS207+ - bad performance . Proud owner of DS207+ with 2x 750Gb Seagates HDD.
First of all it is not quiet, it is even not close to be quiet. My PC with Intel E8500, ATI 4850 with 2 hdd, provides considerable less noise. You can consider to change fan and make noise and vibration protection, the guide how to do that is available somewhere at Synology site.
The second issue is performance. If you can take look on graphs from Synology site, forget them, you will never reach stated performance. I could get 10Mb download maximum after manual Samba configuration files tweaking and using jumbo frames.
The good thing is that DS207+ has a lot of useful features.
I also have Buffalo Mini Station for comparison which has 2.5` disks and almost silent.
If you are looking for NAS with features and do not care about noise and performance DS207+ is your choice, otherwise consider something else.

nightmare . The product claims that it is useful as an FTP server...just try to get it running! Look at the synology forums and see all of the frustrated people trying to make it work...unhappy customers.
I'm surprised to see the positive reviews, but I can only assume they come from people with a lot of networking experience. I bought the product because of the wizards...I find them totally useless.
