SanDisk 32GB Ultra Backup . Excellent data transfer speed. Retractable USB plug is great. Overall extremely pleased with build and functionality. Before purchasing I have always leaned toward Sony Microvault due to the retractable feature. Now I have a second choice. As with all drives, 32GB does not mean this is the available storage you actually have 29.8GB available. I have briefly used the backup feature. Basically you can select any directory and the Flash Dive will back that directory up by pressing the button on the Flash drive. There are additional feature that allow for customizing the backup process. Hope this helps somebody.

SanDisk Ultra Backup 32 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive SDCZ40-032G-A11 Reviews
Works Well Afraid I'll Break It . I received this flash drive as a gift about a month ago and was excited to use it. My laptop has had a variety of problems over the last six months and I planned to use this flash drive to store music, pictures, and documents. I wanted to free up disk space on my computer and have important items backed up in case the laptop went out for good. The flash drive itself is completely functional- my computer recognized it immediately and it's been very easy to move files to it.
The only complaint I have about this item is the USB connector. It's controlled by a sliding mechanism on the body of the device. While it's neat and convenient to slide the connector into the device (and not have to keep up with a cap), the connector feels a bit flimsy when it's extended. It bends, and I am certain it would break if any pressure was exerted on it. I don't believe this is a situation that will arise frequently (pressure on the connector), but I'd like it to feel a bit more secure for my own peace of mind.
Overall, it's an excellent and functional product with a minor design choice that isn't to my personal liking.

SanDisk Ultra Backup 32 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive SDCZ40-032G-A11 Opinions
Life and Data Saver . I use nothing but SanDisk backup keys for data backup. I've tried using external harddrives and found they didn't always work so easily. I'm spoiled by these keys. This 32GB backed up all the data on my computer. I also have 3 SanDisk Titanium keys in 4GB and 8GB sizes. They rock completely! These things are so easy to use you literally do nothing but plug them into your USB port and let them boot. Then just backup whatever you want. You can drag and drop files on the key's drive, or you can engage the backup feature on software. For instance, I hit "backup" on my Quicken and select the drive for my SanDisk key and it backs up my checkbook right onto the key - and in less than 10 seconds! These things are rocket fast! My computer recently crashed and I wasn't worried because I had everything - EVERYTHING - backed up on SanDisk. I reloaded the OS, and my software and just moved my saved data off the key and right back onto my computer. "Flash drive" is right - these things will restore your online life in a flash!

Great Easy (One-Click) Backup Flash Drive . I got this backup flash drive a couple of weeks ago and I am really happy using it...It's just what I needed!
Admittedly, the initial backup took about an hour for 20GB of data. Now, with one click, it analyzes computer data with flash drive data and only backs up the new information very quickly. I previously (tried) remembered what new files I was working on and made backup copies individually. Sometimes I waited a day or two to backup new files and may have forgotten all the new files. So, once or twice a month, I would just backup my entire (folder) files again...time consuming. Now I just insert this flash drive, push the backup button, and all my new files are copied.
I like the U3 backup program too...it's a very small footprint on my system and works quite well showing folders in tree format just like explorer. From there you can choose (check) the folders and/or sub-folders you want to backup. It remembers these settings or you can change your choices any time.
Just another tidbit of information: In my experience, I have found that the larger the flash drive the slower it seems to transfer the same files, i.e., when using a 4GB flash drive to transfer a couple of GBs of data, the transfer is almost instantaneous whereas, when using a 16GB flash drive to transfer the same data takes longer. I can't account for the speed difference, only surmising the larger capacity takes longer to logically organize data.
Overall, I think this is a great SanDisk product and, with it's included software, makes it a valuable backup device. Only 4 stars (almost 5 stars) because the construction is fragile and, really, nothing is perfect.

easy to back up; easy to restore; apparently can't delete/expire backed-up files? . The "BACKUP" button doesn't work for me (perhaps because a recent Windows update disabled AutoPlay for USB flash drives), but there is only one executable on the root folder of the flash drive, SanDiskBackup.EXE, and running/'Open'ing it provides the interface for all backup/restore/view operations, so not using that button is no big deal :).
The first time I used the backup software, I was prompted to download a newer release (and did so). I configured the folders to be backed up and created the backup -- as others have noted, this operation can take some time when one has many Gb.s of data to back up, but odds are that subsequent backup requests will take much less time because the amount of changed data is usually in the Mb.s range. I like the software asking for and subsequently listing a password hint on the "Login" page -- this way, I can create a strong password with a hint that trusted others can figure out but non-trusted people cannot -- and keeping track of which computer a backup was created on (it will pop up a warning when you run it on a different computer, as it supposedly won't allow you to 'launch' a backup from any computer besides the original one).
I can and have restored files to other computers besides the one from which the backup was created (21st-century "SneakerNet" :)). I assume I also can restore files to the original computer if necessary, but my first concern was to ensure I could restore to a different computer (e.g. if something happened to the original computer or its hard disk).
I sometimes back up files I would prefer to keep for only a certain amount of time (e.g. MS Money backup files), but I see no way of configuring an "expiration date" or of simply deleting the backed-up file from the flash drive either via the backup software (i.e. there is no right-click&'Delete' functionality) or via Windows Explorer (the backed-up data is stored in a non-intuitive manner, apparently utilizing a database table to keep track of which flash-drive file(s) comprise(s) the backed-up file). I sent email re this issue some days ago to YuuWaa and we've been in conversation since then, but I don't yet have an answer on whether there is or someday will be a way to delete a backed-up file from the backup.

Sandisk Ultra Backup 32 GB . Backups are a breeze, easy to use, easy to restore files when needed. Have not used it to backup a program so cannot comment on that issue.
Cons Review
Caveat Emptor . The U3 application for this drive does not work with Windows 7. To update the U3 application you need to update the drive using Windows XP per SanDisk. Once you update the U3 application, the Backup utility does not work with Windows 7. If you use Windows XP or Vista, this may provide a viable backup solution. On Windows 7 it does not. Returned to point of purchase for a refund. SanDisk crossed off reliable hardware vendor list.
Waste of Money . Before I bought this I asked if it would work with Windows 7. I was told YES by SanDisk technical support. Well, it does NOT work with Windows 7. The drivers are incompatible. I can use it on my friends computer using Windows XP. I can use it on my work computer using Windows Vista. But when I try using it in Windows 7 the drivers start to load, are found incompatible and then the drive is useless. I spent hours trying to talk this over with SanDisk technical support. They just ran me around in nonsensical circles. I'd tell them the Wondows 7 operating system has reported the drivers as incompatible and they would tell me the SanDisk drivers come pre-ploaded on the drive and will work with Windows 7 therefore there is no problem. I'd say, but it is not working and they would tell me to contact my computer manufacturer. I'd tell them it is the SanDisk drivers that are not working and they would tell me SanDisk drivers come pre-ploaded on the drive and will work with Windows 7 therefore there is no problem.
This is not the only problem with this product, which I could see testing it on my friends computer. It is slow, REALLY SLOW. I tried to transfer a big block of date and it took about 6 hours. Granted it was a lot of data, but when I used a different thumb drive it took about 45 minutes.
Ny suggesting is "DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT".

Not upset but not pleased either . I purchased a SanDisk Ultra Backup 32 GB from Amazon/Outlet last week. It arrived a couple of days ago in good condition and it works, but I can't say that I'm a fan of the product! I own nearly a dozen USB memory sticks of lower capacity, none made by Sandisk. This is the first of them that is unencapsulated--that is, the shell is not filled with epoxy. This construction makes the unit less physically rugged than the others. This is my first U3 device. U3 USB devices come with pre-installed software. In this case, the software enables the device to perform file backups. I guess the writers of this software believe that the user interface is self explanatory; it is not. The unit absolutely requires a manual but none is included in the package, none is stored in the device, and as far as I can tell, none is available for download either from SanDisk's Web site or the U3 consortium's Web site. Yes, I've been able to learn a lot by poking around Web sites, reading FAQs, and making my own mistakes, but this time-consuming adventure should not be necessary.
One of the most frustrating aspects of the device is how long backups appear to take. I can't quote figures on the required time, but updating an existing backup of a partition to which I had added only a few relatively small files took about 1/2 hour. Worse yet, there is no easy way to learn when a backup has been completed. You have to figure out how to open the backup application's main menu and see whether the "backup complete" button is displayed.
As with any external mass-storage device, you should never, never, never unplug the device while there is a possibility than writes to memory might be taking place. Failure to observe this precaution, which I found nowhere in any of the on-line documentation, can render the device useless and unrepairable! The backup application includes a "safely remove the backup device" click option, BUT be warned that this option does not work if you are displaying a directory of the memory stick with Windows Explorer (aka the file manager). You must close the file manager before the "OK to remove" popup box appears.
All in all, I give the device failing grades for software documentation and backup speed. I suggest that you purchase a memory stick that does not include backup software and use separately purchased software to perform your backups.

No more than a storage device . Using Windows 7 64 bit, and this USB is absolutely worthless beyond its function as a storage device. The Ultra Backup button is serves no function. Supposedly, all the software comes pre-loaded and pre-configured, and this was not the case at all with me. I have come across discussion that this problem occurs when this product is used with Windows 7, but there is no software on the drive, whatsoever. This is just a sotrage CD wrapped up in a flash drive.
