happy parent . I use the cavalry dock with raid for backing up my computer and my son has been bothering me for an external hard drive for his "tunes and photos". Anyway, i went with cavalry and couldnt be happier. Truly plug-and-play.
Solid piece of hardware . The drive works like a charm. It does the job, is simple to use, and comes with everything you need. It's working well for me so far.

Excellent Repackaged Hitachi Drive . This is a review for the Cavalry Passio 1TB External Hard Drive. This drive functioned extremely well and easily with little set-up.

First thing I did was connect it to my Mac and format it for Time Machine use through USB. Transferred 160GB of data with no errors.

Second thing was to install the ESATA bracket on my PC and reformat it into NTSC to record video onto it. It won't register as "plug & play" automatically through ESATA. You have to rescan for hardware changes in Windows Device Manager because SATA doesn't scan all the time. This may not be an issue with a actual ESATA port but I don't have one to test. Speed is extremely fast and the drive is quiet unless it is transferring. It doesn't get hot and has a fan in the case that will kick on and cool the device. Right now I can't give a legit review after only a week but so far it's a great product. Don't even bother with the vertical stand however.

thoroughly satisfied . I am not the most technologically savvy person but the 1000 gig hard drive was a piece of cake to use. Now I have enough space to store all of my music and movies without slowing down my computer. I would definitely purchase this piece of machinery again.

Cons Review
Sent back 3 of these drives in 2 weeks. . The first 1tb CAXH drive turned off and on with a clunk noise, the 2nd one sputtered/clicked in the last 10gb of a 103 gb download, the 3rd one did the same towards the end of the same download. Only got 22mb/sec download rate on all of them. Never could get the eSATA to work but that might have been my controller card. I switched to a 1.5tb WD USB drive for the same price here at Amazon, they were great for making the returns, I got one of them back in 2 days, only to send it back again.

Skulls! . What a fun flash drive! Skulls are a fashionable trend these days, so this drive fits perfectly. Works well, haven't had any problems, and can't complain about the great price!

I haven't had any problems with the cap on mine - the drive and cap are made out of rubber, so the two parts fit snugly together. I also like the fact that you can attach the cap to the key chain, so you won't lose it while you're using the drive.

Excellent for School!!! . This is a wonderful flash drive and the perfect size for college students.
I highly recommend it for anyone who likes skulls.

I was able to fit all of my papers for a semester at once.
(around 20pgs of documents)as well as multiple photo shop documents, large photos, and even a small website.

I also received many compliments for the appearance of the flash drive.

The cap & holder are also extremely helpful as the flash drive was often either in my pocket or lost in the bottom of my purse the cap fits snugly so lint, tobacco, and random crumbs do not find their way into the drive. and the holder is great for preventing the loss of the cap(as long as you remember to use it)

Works as expected . Works well, great capacity. THese things aren't rocket science so i'm pleased with this one as expected. I bought 2, a black and a red one, so I can store work related items on one and personal on the other. For complete laptop back up I use a much larger back up drive, but these are a good value for normal document/picture/music library backups.

Quirky and cute . And functional too! What more could you ask for in a USB drive? If you're the "fun" person in the office, or a sassy sort, this will be a great addition to your collection of nerdy toys and cube deccor. My only complaint is that it's a little bulky and makes it difficult to plug in multiple USB drives or devices if your ports are close together on your computer, like on a laptop. It's not a deal breaker by any means, but it is something to think about.

Cons Review
BEWARE OF CLIPHOLDER!!! . I bought 2 of these for my kids last year for school. I thought they would be perfect since they could clip them on to their book bags so they wouldn't get lost. Within the first 3 days of having them the little rubber circle they have the chain on BROKE! So they had no way of attaching them to anything! Another kind of wierd thing was that the part that goes in to the usb drive got all funky - almost like corroded - after a few uses. Now I know that these two defaults were not just a "one bad piece" thing because we got a pink one and a black one and BOTH of them did the exact same thing.

I wouldn't waste my money on another one, unless you really don't care if they last for any length of time.

U3 is a great feature. . It always kind of amazes me when people give a product a bad review because they didn't understand what they were buying. The description and packaging for this clearly states that it comes with the U3 technology and a 30 second Google search will tell you what U3 is all about. Memorex makes the very same drive without U3, why didn't you buy that? Anyway I find the U3 software great, it allow me to password protect the entire drives contents and transport applications with me for use on any PC. I have my Trillian IM client, Mozilla Thunderbird mail client and Firefox browser all running from the stick so when I get to work I have all my personal stuff and when I leave I take it all with me leaving nothing behind. I've used a 2GB version of this for over a year and just upgrade to this 4GB version and couldn't be happier. If you don't want or need the U3 features don't buy this product, get the regular 4GB version.

The other reviewers are right, Amazon is shipping a non-U3 version. They just recently updated the manufacturers part number to the non-U3 version but the description is still wrong. I just had to return my second shipment because it is not the U3 drive. This time I'm getting a refund and I'll buy it from someone who can get it right.

Not as advertised ... #2 . I've owned this product (the real U3 version) before. This mini drive and U3 apps, including the password protection are great. I can attest to that having recently lost my mini drive. I can't imagine someone getting their hands on my data. Having owned the product before I was disappointed when I ordered and received the regular version of the drive and not the U3 drive I ordered. Like the previous reviewer I have returned the product and I'm waiting for the seller to correct what I am assuming is an honest mistake. I will update and comment further on the return in the event the seller does not handle this situation.

Hate U3 but the drive is fine . Took out the U3 right away - I am not a fan. The drive is small and transfer rates were much faster that a 1GB cheap USB drive that I had purchased from MicroCenter.
Good Little Drive . Like the drive. It does what its made to do. I enjoy the intergrated light attached to the drive which blinks when you are accessing it. It lets you know its working. It includes a lanyard & a cap. The only downside is you have to be careful not to lose the included cap......put it in a safe place when using the drive.
Best USB drive on the market . USB drive's small size and convenient connection make them a breeze to use but the small size also makes them easy to misplace...which can spell disaster considering how much data you can store on one. This drive is one of the best I've seen because it takes away one of those risks with the best implementation of security that I've used on a USB drive. I rate it a top choice because of the easy-to-use, no-brainer security feature called "U3".

I've owned USB drives with built-in biometrics (fingerprint scanner) and other encryption options, though they might seem like slick solutions, in reality they were cumbersome and unreliable. What makes this drive special is its size and the U3 software. U3 is one of the first applications designed to autolaunch without double-clicking on a program contained on the USB drive. The drive has 2 partitions, one contains the bootable U3 software partition and the other is for data storage. I've had some clients confused by the two partions, but once you understand the config you will have no problems determining where to store your data (it won't let you store any data to the U3 partition so it will be real obvious which partition is for data storage). After the initial password setup you can just pop the drive into any PC and you are instantly presented with a password prompt on the screen, type your password to unencrypt the drive and off you go!

Cons Review
Be Careful . This is not a U3 drive. Too slow and it comes with a Portable Vault Software to encode the data. I think that i lose my money.
Negligent Seller: Not U3 Device . According to the product description, this was supposed to be a u3 device. Upon arrival, I quickly discovered it was not. I wasted time and money in purchasing this item and having to return it. Are sellers so stupid or lazy that they cannot accurately describe the items they sell?
Disappointed with Vendor . I ordered a 4GB Mini TravelDrive U3 through J&R Music in August 2007. I received a regular TravelDrive (not U3) within a week. I contacted J&R and returned the product, using their recommended carrier (UPS), within 3 days. UPS charged me $9.20 to ship the product, bringing my total shipping charges to over $15 for a $34 product. Needless to say I was a little miffed!. To add insult to injury the product was backordered so I had to wait a few week.... I just received my replacement product, and once again it is not a U3 TravelDrive. I am upset... I'm not going to waste any more of my time nor another $9.20 on J & R Music.
Not as advertised but ... . There are a ton of fake USB drives out there. This is not a fake, but it's also not a U3 device. Memorex makes two versions (not interchangeable) that look very similar. The U3 version is 32509383 this one is 32509389. This drive is incredibly SLOW as well! Think of it as a big floppy.
U3 is an incredibly useful feature with a little research you can install entire applications and then run them from another PC without installing anything on the 2nd PC. Great tool for techs!
I'm returning this device for the reasons stated. I'll consider this event an honest mistake by the seller (provided I get a refund without problems) I bought a U3 elsewhere already and chose a SanDisk because of the speed problem.
I may comment more on the return if there are any problems!

LOVE LOVE this Rubberized portable convenient Verbatim Premiere Drive. . Pros: Rubber coating prevents slippage, stays put, won't slide. No power cord needed. Plug n Play. FAST! Nero backup, sync and encryption software protects your stuff. Password protection

Cons: Cord is too short! (24") Verbatim loves short cords. (But will easily sit on top of computer with rubber grip.)


We ordered the Verbatim USB Premiere edition 250GB Hard Drive (we're PC/XP-this software is compatible with windows operating systems only.) for a project and once we got the unit out of the plastic encased coffin (be careful cause plastic is hard and sharp!) we instantly loved the feel of this drive in our hands. Coated in a soft black rubberized grip means no slipping around on desk or computer...It stays where you put it! (You will be spoiled with this feature and wish all your drives had a rubberized grip.) We plugged the drive in and like other Verbatim drives, our operating system immediately detected the new hardware. (Unlike the Western Digital drives that constantly fail to be recognized.) Ok, back to Verbatim--We LOVED the increased speed. Dropped some produced video files into the drive and BAM! They Loaded in a split second. This IS Turbo people! We dropped some .mp3's and entire library loaded quicker than we could see the status update. Package sez increased speeds up to 25% and we believe it. This drive is very responsive. Plus, the size is fantastic. This is my third Verbatim drive and I am a big fan now. Consistency in performance and you don't have to lug around a power supply. That's HUGE in convenience.

Overall, the Verbatim USB Premiere Edition 250 GB drive is all that we could ask for in a portable drive. This drive is my first choice in style, performance, features and convenience and not to mention the price--lower than drives of size and class.

Amazing price works with both MAC and PC . Great little device. Also it works and is preformatted with FAT32 so it will work with both a Windows PC and a MAC. This was important to me as I have both.

As long as you realise you cannot save a file over 4Gb in size then it's not a problem, I have nothing over this size and am never likely too. Especially with the new HD Video formats you can get a ton of data in under 4Gb.

Lightly, Small, quite nippy too. I am using it as a backup drive only and to take on a road trip. I also backup using Mozy and Idrive and to my main computer and another external disk so I have multiple backup options as should everyone.

Poor connector . I plugged the cable from my PC USB port into the Verbatim hard drive port for the first time and although the cable was firmly seated, connectivity was intermittent. Verbatim determined that the unit was defective and since the product was still under warranty, they accepted a return and replaced it with a refurbished unit. A new replacement would have been better. Also, the original unit included backup software. The replacement did not. Other than these issues, the drive operates perfectly. I do wish it had drop protection as some external drives do. If I were to buy another drive, I would choose a brand that had that feature.
Quick and Easy . The item works so easily, just plug and use it. It runs nice and quick and I have yet to experience any problems with the product.
a great little drive . this have a good feel to it. it's built solid. smooth rubber like leather top and bottom covering. it wont slide off the table when u plug it in, when the cable hang off the table. its stream movies and music on my ps3.

stopped responding after 9 months . This hard drive stopped working after 9 month.

Didn't work out of the box . I received an order from ANTOnline 8/6/10 for:

Verbatim Premier Edition 250 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive 96778 (Black).

The box in which it came was slightly damaged, but the product looked none the worse for wear. When I plugged the drive into my USB port, nothing happened. The blue light on the device flashed on and off, but no little ding-dong noise sounded and no drive with a folder with BACKITUP registered on my computer. I tried it on my other laptop with the same results. I tested the USB port with my printer, and I got the ding-dong noise and the printer connected and worked successfully. I contacted two neighbors who work extensively with Microsoft XP and external drives, and they both independently concluded that the device was faulty.

I'd like to return this product for a refund, but I'm already starting to get the old rigamarole from ANTOnline. Stay tuned ...

Worth the money and no problems with installation . Upside:::
Technically, I have seen no issues with this USB drive. Let's face it, compatibility issues are really about the only thing technical that can go wrong with it.
I have plugged my Sony MicroVault into the following systems with no issue.

Additional Benefits::::::
One often overlooked uses of USB drives is the fact that you can copy your digital pictures to the USB drive and take that to the store instead of taking carrying your digital camera to the store to have pictures made or worse yet, just throwing your camera's memory card into your pocket or purse. Plus it gives you a backup just in case you were to loose one of your cards on the way to the store or heavens forbid you erase something you didn't want to.

Donwnside::::
The only real think I don't like about the product is it is not very easy to attach it to something else for transportation, like a key ring. Other than that if you are looking for a moderately priced USB drive from a reputable manufacturer, then I highly recommend the 512 Sony Microvault.

Sony: Best quality flash drives . i got this flash drive for school use. it is the best! it has never had a problem. the only thing is the higher price. but that price gives it the best build materials. last weekend it accidently went throught the washing machine with all those cleaning stuff and then went through the dryer. didn't even deform. but what really amazed me was that it still worked and all my files were in top quality.

Sony makes great products, price may scare some but in the long term it is worth it.

Cons Review
Horrible. . I had this product less than 2 months. I've had several flash drives and I'm very careful with all of them. Yesterday, it just quit on me completely. I tried formatting it, and that didn't work either. I've probably only used it 8 or 9 times -- unacceptable!

Solid Flash Drive . I've had this flash drive for about 6 months or so.

The sliding mechanism still works fine for me, and the casing has little signs of wear. The casing has some kind of coating, or is made of a material that gives it a good grip in a person's hands. It doesn't 'feel' like plastic, it feels a bit more like a tough nylon.

It comes preloaded with some software (firefox, open office, etc.), but it only takes a few minutes to remove it.

Solid flash drive, and I think a bit cheaper than most others with similar storage capacity.

Good drive but slow write speed . Here is a quick review to help out all potential buyers :) I've owned 32GB drive for about a year now. Sure, it comes with several programs. But, hey, "insert -> format drive -> done -> clean drive" process takes less than a minute. :)

Pros:
* Good plastic finish, scratch resistant
* Good read speed: ~20MB/s
* Good price per GB value

Cons:
* Very slow write speed. I got an average of 2.5MB/s while copying several gigs of my photos. I was able to confirm slow write speed on different PCs/laptops. Can you believe that it takes more than two hours to copy the files in order to fill up this huge drive???
* I'd recommend to hold stick by silver slider when inserting into USB port
* Slightly bulky. I remember problems inserting this drive into a laptop with tight space around USB port, especially if there is another device/cable connected to a neighbor port.

Overall, I think this drive deserves 3.5 stars. I continue to use it and have no plans to replace it with another drive.
Handy large capacity storage . Overall unit works well and has extemely high capacity. The retractable feature is great. The only minor problem is that the retracting slider is sticky and takes some effort. Otherwise a good unit.
Works okay but there are draw backs: . Pros: Works fine with Windows Vista and XP.

Cons: 1. Comes with 520MB of pre-loaded software called EMDESK.
2. Does not work for playing music through Pioneer DEH-P510UB Car Stereo. You will get a format error even though the drive is fat32 format. PNY Attache usb drives seem to work better for music with this stereo system.
Performs well could be more durable. . I own several jump drives of various brands. I own the 16GB. It transfers files of various sizes very quickly for the price. It could be more durable though. Through fault of my own, I bent it while it was plugged into a laptop which caused the black rubberized case to come apart. The case is held together with 4 slotted tabs. Two broke off on one side but I put it back together and bent the USB tab back straight. I still use it every day. I recently purchased the elago Mobile Nano II USB 2.0 microSDHC Flash Memory Card Reader (Black) to replace it as the drive I carry daily since it is so small and doesn't stick out allowing me to break it.

I would strongly recommend this USB drive to anyone looking in this price range. I purchased the elago adapter mentioned above along with the Transcend 8 GB microSDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card TS8GUSDHC6E. It appears to operate around the same speed as this USB drive if someone is looking for something smaller.
Fast Memory Poor Mechanics . The memory is fast but the in and out mechanics broke with just a mouth of use.
Everything you expect for your money a great buy! . Well, thanks to reviewer C. Meil "HappyMeil" that responded to a question I had about a leash hole so I knew I would be able to put it on my keyring I ended up buying one and getting to comment on it... thanks HappyMeil!

SPEED: The drive is fast... I own Corsair's, A-Data's and some off brand models and this one smokes em all... and the A-Data is the fastest I had seen and even benchmarked up to now. I haven't actually had the time to do a real speed test yet but I had with the A-Data and many others in our IT shop and suffice it to say that this Emtac is noticably faster... sorry for no speed details but the speed is clearly there.

FUNCTION: Another important feature for me is the size of the drive and function of the retractor. The size is normal to small and easily fits next to another occupied USB port. The way the retractor works is simple and very effective. When it is extended and you push it into the USB port the cover does not try to close when you hold it by the black body (easiest way.) The Silver part slides back and forth to cover the USB portion and locks into and out of place perfectly.

COMPLAINTS: My only complaints... if you can call them that since I don't, is the hole for a leash/to carry the drive is small and does not appear sturdy enough to be abused. It is not big enough or at the right angle to get a keyring through which is a small bummer but I have put a small zip-tie through there and it is working fine. Thin cord of good quality... like that comes with some drives might be nicer but I haven't gotten around to it yet. The only other "bummer" would be the lack of a activity status light/LED. I thought this would be a problem but actually I haven't missed it yet. I personally am so happy with the purchase that I decided not to take away a star for the light and leash hole... it's the way it was designed and I bought it that way and it does everything I have asked or hoped for so five stars.

Thanks again to C. Meil "HappyMeil" for the help... you motivated me to do what I hope is the same help for another buyer. OH... BTW... to the complainer about pre-installed software? You spent more 10 times more time complaining than it took me performing a right click and "format" LOL




Cons Review
No thanks for the adware . Yes it's big. Yes it's fast. But I do not expect a thumb drive to come preloaded with a big pile of adware, spyware, 'anti-virus' software which asks if you really don't want to download various files to protect your computer from unknown threats, etc. I only hope I deleted them before they autoloaded onto my computer. I understand that this is a source of extra revenue for the manufacturers, but it does nothing for the purchasers, most such software being of a malicious nature
.
Bad Design for this Flash Drive . In short the sliding case altho a great idea broke in two the first time i used it, so it was returned. A terrible design with bad materials

Happy . Just got this in the mail.

I wanted an external drive to meet the following requirements
- Backup both a mac and pc
- no backup software that i had to use
- usb 3.0 cause my desktop pc has a usb 3.0 motherboard to take advantage of this

Nice to have
- look good
- small in size

At first I was a little worried cause I thought that it was only going to end up working with only one or the other (mac or pc). Looked on the internet but didn't find any help, but no matter I just went with what I thought would work. In Windows I went to disk management and shrunk the drive in half, then formatted it in exFAT. Then I plugged it into my mac (with os x lion) and immediately it asked it I wanted to use one ) or both of the partitions for Time Machine. I said yes to one of the partitions and it started running a backup right away.

So very happy it worked just as I wanted

Expensive but feels very solid . After my WD passport died I was looking for an external drive that was more solid as the USB connection the WD was very flimsy and kept falling off. The drive feels very solid, the USB connection fits tightly and it was recognized by my Asus router. The external drive has been connected to my Asus router for the last two weeks and it hasn't slowed down one bit. The HD is a bit expensive compare to other 1TB drives but I think its worth it after feeling how solid it is.

Made it to Iraq . After having it shipped to my house, I loaded it up with movies and sent it to Iraq. I was worried about the handling of the package, but it made it and works just fine. Once I downloaded DVD ripping software, it was easy to put te movies on the drive. The speed was limited (significantly) by the DVD drive on my computer, not by the drive.
Excelent! . This external hard disk is excelent! Fast, beautiful, compact, lightweight and security. Have a blue LED lets you know when the drive is active.
Great Drives . Awesome Little Drives! Software included has Backup capability, I bought several of these, and one was used as a backup and that computer failed several days later. The great part of the backed up data was that I plugged it into my laptop, assumed ownership rights, and i was able to directory browse the backed up data and pull the individual files i needed!!
No nonsense - the drive just works. . I purchased this drive several weeks ago and have used it extensively for backing up my PC. The drive has been very solid - non problems. The higher-speed USB3 interface is definitely a help to get it done quickly.
Great Item. Worth Every Cent! . I purchased this to use as an external hard drive to back up all of my computers. It is extremely easy to use. There is more than enough space for backing up several computers. The importance of backing up a computer was realized by me when my computer crashed and I lost all my photos and data. Never again. Now once a week, I safely place all my computer contents on this drive. It is also very compact in size. I highly recommend this product. It took about 30 minutes to back up my entire computer.
