Awesome External Hard drive . I had this pre-ordered for a while from Amazon and was pleasantly surprised when they emailed me that it had shipped. I ordered this and the smaller USB powered drive. I mainly bought this to store all my data and as well as a backup drive so I could create an image of my PC onto it in case of unforeseen problems. Anyways, coming back to the LaCie Porsche Design Hard drive; it's beautifully made, a nice industrial design. It came with a few region specific adapters so if you're travelling you won't be hard pressed to find converters which is an added bonus. The drive runs nice and cool, with no audible sound. The LED on the front light's up a bright white color and looks awesome primarily functioning to display disk activity and power on. It also has a power switch located at the back for manually turning the drive off or on. The added benefit of this drive is that it's USB 3.0 compatible, which makes it really quite quick for transferring larger files. ============================
Initial Setup
============================Quick and painless, as it should be. Plugged in the adapter, powered it on and connected it to the PC, has all the software bundled in, essentially plug and play though requires the drive to be formatted. The good thing is you can set it up so if you have a mac and windows environment, you can format it to NTFS and FAT32 both via partitioning which is made really easy with the LaCie software included.============================

============================The drive was nicely packaged and sealed, Amazon did a great job shipping as usual. The drive comes with a USB 3.0 cable which is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 spec however data transfer naturally is limited to their respective bandwidth. Easy backup. Awesome design. . This drive was very easy to setup. It's truly plug and play. I run it every day for many hours non-stop, and it's been doing great job of backing up my files. It comes with advanced backup software, that I find very easy and useful. The drive looks and feels very rugged due to its solid aluminum enclosure. The design is just awesome. I'd recommend this product without hesitation.

Excellent Drive That Is Speedy And Looks Good Plus Free 10 Gb Wuala Cloud Storage . I have many high capacity external hard disk drives that are of 1 Tb size or larger. This Lacie Porsche Design 2 Tb (P'9230) is the second one that has a USB 3.0 interface. While the drive is slightly more expensive than the likes of Seagate and Western Digital, I chose to buy it because of the following reasons:1. Rugged metal enclosure that has a prominent blue/white LED bar to show disk activity.2. It has a beautiful, aesthetic form that makes an elegant design statement.After getting the drive, I discovered a few more pluses:3. It is very quiet, as it has no fan. The metal cabinet apparently dissipates heat efficiently.4. You get 10 Gb of Lacie's Wuala cloud storage for free. The Wuala storage is superior to Dropbox because your files are encrypted before transmission to the cloud, and no one has access to them but you.5. There is also Lacie's Private-Public encryption software for PC and Mac that I recommend you to use right away, before copying any files to the new drive. You will need to create an encrypted volume on the drive. It can be as large as the entire drive, or a fraction of it. Because transfer speed is reduced on an encrypted drive, Lacie recommends a size smaller than 50 Gb. You can create multiple volumes of encrypted drives.6. The Lacie Porsche Design drive has a strong USB connector jack on the drive that is IMO less likely to become defective if you connect and disconnect the USB 3.0 cable often, or if you move the drive around a lot. This is a weakness of the Western Digital MyBook drives, as noted by some Amazon reviewers.Lacie also has a 2 Tb drive for the Mac, which looks exactly like this one, except that it has only a USB 2.0 interface, not USB 3.0. Great backup drive . I like the backup software included with the drive: it is really easy to use and feels safe. I also like the aluminum enclosure, which helps to dissipate the heat. I've only installed this drive a few days ago and so far my first impressions are very positive.
Great external hard drive! . LaCie Porsche Design P9230 external hard drive works just fine for Mac OS X Lion ,and Windows 7. This drive was easy to set up took less than five minutes. After five minutes I was backing up with Time Machine. So if your looking for a hard drive that is both PC and Mac OS X Lion compatible I would highly recommend this external hard drive from LaCie.
Dude I own a porsche. finally. . Well if you can't drive a porsche you can save your important data to one! this thing is the porsche of hard drives. it rules thus making me rule for being the smart guy for purchasing one.
Great 2TB drive for the cost. . Sadly, most TB-sized drives are of dubious quality...especially if they are available for an affordable price. This one is an exception to that rule.Seems to be solid in construction. Set up was easy. No bad sectors (did take forever to scan).Now I have a massive external HDD as my redundant backup for my backup files. All for under $200. Great buy.
Excellent . Looks good. Works perfectly. No problems at all getting it setup. On/Off switch is great. Turn it off before re-booting. Probably any USB 3.0 devices (including flash drives) slow down boot times. After untold miseries, I sent a WD My Book Essential back for a refund. I highly recommend the 'LaCie.
Porsche Design has done it again . As a Manhattanite who loves design, I fell in love with the look at first, then after I received it I fell in love with the function. As a photographer who uses a Sony Alpha 900 (25mp per shot) I needed a back up drive that was fast and quite, unlike the WD I was using which made so much noise I would unplug it all the time it was not needed. It also comes with international adapters which work out great if you travel a lot and that wash of blue/white light in the front of the solid aluminum casing is ssoooo sexy. I love this product so much that I'm giving 2 as Christmas gifts this year and getting a smaller one for my laptop to have as back up for my photos when I'm traveling. Also they do great limited edition clothing and products for men.
