Beautiful Quality and ease of use. . This is my very first external hard drive used specifically with time machine on my 2007 iMac. This thing is beautiful and is SUPER quiet. I keep it hooked up via firewire 800 and I just leave it be and time machine does the work for me. Sure the price is pretty high for an external hard rive. But this thing is GORGEOUS and goes with any mac product. It just feels like an apple product. The USB hub on the side is also a great feature which I haven't used yet. Theres 2 small downsides for me though. The indicator lights are really cool, but it also has a feature where the lights indicate how much the hard rive is filled up. But when I downloaded the optional software to enable this feature and saw what It did I immediately uninstalled it. You have to always have it running in the back ground as an open application. Besides the 4 lights look awesome anyways lol. You can easily just open up the hard rive on your mac to see how much space is left. The glossy black top is also easily scratch able. So be careful on what you use to clean this thing with. Use a very soft microfiber cloth. I have a few fine scratches from using just a swifter duster.Anyway's, if you're in the market for a fast, beautiful and reliable hard rive that just works as it should then this is for you. I also want to point out that if you have an iMac that has the black backing and rounded bottom screen edges then this won't fit perfectly proportional as it would with the all aluminum iMac's. But it doesn't bother me since I just put it about 12 inch to the right of of my iMac and looks beautiful. I think it looks even better than under the iMac.
Iomega Mac 2 TB USB 2.0 Companion External Hard Drive 35130 (Black/Silver) Reviews
For style conscious people . This external hard drive is exactly for style conscious people. The device is eye catching and the storage size also is impressive. It is called Mac Companion because the drive is formatted as HFS+ which is compatible with Mac OS X. The external drive is a treat because it has a host of connectivity options. The Mac Companion supports both USB and FireWire. I use the USB port to charge my iPod. But one aspect I noticed was that when I tried to charge my iPod, the device had to be connected to the computer. When I use the USB I was not able to enjoy the high speed transfer of the FireWire. Only one connectivity option works. No problem I put my FireWire to rest while I am charging my iPod. The LED lights indicate the storage availability of the drive.
Iomega Mac 2 TB USB 2.0 Companion External Hard Drive 35130 (Black/Silver) Opinions
I vouch for it . This is one device that does not need any supervision while the backup is going on. An excellent external hard drive that perfectly fits my MacBook without any complains. It not just looks great but works great as well. A complete go getter. I have connected it to the USB 2.0 port and it backups data without any reminder. With the Mac Companion introduced by Iomega I am at peace. Now I do not worry about data losses. The backup is there on my external drive ready to be retrieved any time. 2TB is a lot of space and hence it sucks in as much as photos, music and videos I throw into it. I am satisfied with this device and would definitely vouch for it.
A range of connectivity features . Iomega Mac companion is a fashionable external hard drive that is just made for Mac machines. The design is so advanced that it matches the most recently made Mac device as well. The device acts as a charger for my iPhone and iPod. I call it a Mac device for its HFS+ feature. The USB 2.0 port is suitable for charging my apple devices and I use it to connect to my photo printer too. Compared to the previous version this new device is fast with 7200 rpm, 3.5" hard disk. The drive also caters to FireWire 800 and a transformation FireWire 400-800 apart from a standalone USB 2.0 cable. The device works quietly and does not get hot as well. This is a no problem storage device for my Macbook.
Packed with functions . For an external hard drive this device does a lot of functions, it transfers files at amazing speed, the USB hub helps charge other devices and the device is completely compatible with my iMac. On the front panel I noticed a capacity gauge, I did not know the purpose of this and called Iomega tech support and they informed me that to enable capacity gauge feature I have to download an application from their website. This is to gauge how full is my external hard drive. A useful feature that Iomega has thought of to incorporate in their external drive. Overall the device was easy to use. The additional FireWire connectivity was unexpected and I sometimes use it to daisy chain my devices.
Blends with my Macbook . Iomega Mac 2 TB USB 2.0 Companion External Hard Drive should be called as Apple companion than Mac companion, because it support most of the Apple products be it iPod, iPad or iPhone. If not for anything else I like this product because it helps me charge and sync my iPod and iPhone with its 2.1 Amp USB port. The recharging dock is something that is well thought of by Iomega. Good Work! The USB hub helps in connecting to my printer. The transfer speed is amazing for a USB 2.0 interface - 7200 rpm. The device also support FireWire interface as it comes with two FireWire 800 ports. Mac companion is a perfect match for Mac machines.

Cons Review
Waste of Time and Money - Bizarre Tradeoffs . If you're considering purchasing this drive, you should be aware of the tradeoffs involved in trying to use it.On paper the drive looks great. I really wanted it to work. In reality, it is designed so that you can't actually make use of all of its features at the same time. The drive's features are a USB hub, high power port for charging an iPad, Firewire 800 port for higher speed disk I/O and LED indicators on the front to show you how space has been used.If you connect the drive via USB, the "high power" port for charging your iPad reverts to low power and your iPad will tell you that it's not charging (it will actually still charge, albeit very very slowly). If you do not connect the drive via USB you (obviously) will not be able to utilize the additional USB ports. You will be able to charge your iPad quickly but you will not be able to sync it via USB.So you get to choose - either fast charging for your iPad or usable USB ports. If you want to use the Firewire 800 port for better disk performance, you can't also use the USB port. If you connect both, the drive will randomly switch between Firewire and USB when your computer sleeps and re-awakens. If you're using the disk for Time Machine your backups will randomly fail.So you get to choose - higher speed disk access or usable USB ports. Of course if you opt for higher speed disk access you'll also be able to charge your iPad faster. You just won't be able to sync it.Finally, the software that controls the LEDs on the front of the drive is rather poor and doesn't hide itself. So you'll always see the Mac Companion software when you're switching between applications. You're better off buying a 3TB external drive and separate USB hub and saving yourself a bunch of $$$. The drive looks beautiful, it's true, but it's hard to understand why Iomega thought that these tradeoffs were acceptable. I'm thankful that Amazon's returns policy will save me from having wasted money on this clunker.
