Solid drive great case . Works great. Hitachi drive, solid case. These tend to be more expensive but the case is solid and has a great heat sink that does not require a fan.

Style Performance Reliability! Great Product! . Works, feels and looks great. Had it for 2-3 months with no problems. It's compact and fits nicely in the carrying case with my 17" MacBook Pro computer. Nice silver color that matches as well. It took seconds to get it running with TimeMachine back up. I'm very satisfied. Didn't have to deal with tech support, though I did call the company once before purchase to ask some questions. The lady was nice and helpful but the engineer guy was less "enthused"... maybe he was having a "bad" day... But I'm satisfied. The other drive I have is Lacie and also never had a problem.

It's a good deal for the price. . It's a nice product seems to work just fine. I just backed up all my file in about 30 min. I bought it so when I go from "Vista Ultimate" to "Windows 7 XP Prof." I won't loose my data. The indicator light is too bright and annoying. It is much longer than pictured as well. The main difficulty is formatting the disk to MS OS. It comes formatted for Macintosh. Why, I don't know. The instruction on how to format it to Windows are very weak and out of date. One just has to figure it out. The installation disk is next to worthless. Also it come with multiple cables (4) to connect it to your computer. Make sure that you format to a "Simple Disk" NOT "Dynamic Disk" They don't cover "Vista" at all on installation only MS 2000 and XP. They must be all Mac guys at G-Tech. I'll run it 24/7 and see it it burns up. So far, it is running very cool and nose free. I'll give updates if it dies. JC
ahhhh... it's ok... . IT'S NOT PORTABLE!!! Unless you like to carry a bunch of cords....I thought this was the mini (the one that does not need a power cord) but is not... I got this big thing now, which looks pretty nice, I really like the brushed steel finish, matches nicely with my MacBook. but I don't like the fact that I have to have it plugged in to the power outlet to get my data. Oh well.. I guess I should have read the description a bit closer, which is why I give it a decent review. So far so good, no data loss, there has been a few times that the laptop did not recognize it, so I had to turn it on and off and on again to get it to show up... Not a good thing, I've only had it for 2 months... if this thing craps out in the next year I will be back here giving it a horrible review...(I hope I didn't just jinxed my self!)
Cons Review
Faulty Controller Boards and Cumbersome Support . I purchased my drive after consulting with a few sales people at the local Apple Store. They recommended G Technology over Western Digital or LaCie. Just a few days after I started using it, I noticed bizarre behavior. Transfers would slow down about midway through a backup. Then, they just stopped doing anything at all, and my computer would freeze up until I disconnected the drive.
I contacted G Technologies customer support because the drive was under warranty. I received an email telling me that there was a problem with my drive. They told me I would receive an RMA to return the drive for service. Boy, was I surprised when the RMA came through. It had a dozen instructions on how to pack the drive to send to them for service. One of the instructions made it clear that the packaging the drive came with was insufficient for shipping. It also made it clear that proper packing was my responsibility and my sole cost. There was no estimate on how long it would take to service the drive, and there was no guarantee that my data would be preserved. In short, the process was so cumbersome that I began questioning whether it was worth the time and effort at all.
I have recently scanned message boards and learned I'm not the only one out there with this technical issue. From responses posted by users who claim to be part of the G Tech support team, it appears there is a controller board flaw that can only be corrected by an update to the firmware, but the firmware update has to be performed by G Tech. You can't do it yourself. What a waste of money. I will be very reluctant to purchase a drive from them in the future. I never had this issue with my LaCie drives.
