This review is from : Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Pro 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive with Module STAD500400
A Versatile External Hard Drive With A Semi-Useful Dock . The Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Pro (whew, that was a mouthful) is a nicely designed external hard drive that includes a GoFlex capacity docking station, and a GoFlex USB 2.0 interface adaptor.
The Seagate drive is a nicely constructed drive that is about 3/4" wider, and a little bit taller, than an iPhone when on its side. The body is made completely of plastic, with a glossy front and a textured rear. On the bottom of the drive is the GoFlex dock connector. The dock connector can be used with the included GoFlex capacity dock, where is just drops on, or you can attach the GoFlex mini USB adaptor and use any mini USB cable with the drive. Having the adaptor is nice since it frees you from having to use the included dock. The included dock is a neat idea and it has 4 lights that represent the hard drive's available capacity and an activity light. The major drawback to the dock is that in order for it to work correctly with your computer you need to plug it into 2 free USB drives. On my MacBook that presents a bit of a problem since Apple is stingy with USB ports, and only gives you two. The other negative to mention about the dock is that it does not have rubber feet of any kind on the bottom and slides around freely on my desk.
The drive inside the Seagate spins at 7200 RPM and uses a USB 2.0 connection out of the box. However, you can purchase an optional GoFlex adaptor to use the drive on a USB 3.0 connection. You can also purchase additional GoFlex adaptors that allow you to share your flies over the web or view them on your television.
Using the drive on my MacBook (running Snow Leopard) was very simple. I just plugged it in and up it popped on the desktop. Included on the drive is Memeo Backup software for the Mac operating system (there is also backup software for Windows included). The back-up software is very easy to use and allows you to customize exactly what back-ups and to where. It also allows you to secure the back-ups. Using the software to restore lost files is easy as well. The software, using the Seagate drive as the back-up destination, is fast and took 1 hour to back-up 24GB of data. I was also able to use the Seagate drive with Apple's Time Machine and my Retrospect Express back-up software. So if you don't like the included software, you can just delete it from the drive and use your own.
All in all... the GoFlex docks add additional functionality, but even without them, the FreeAgent works fine as a regular external hard drive.

Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Pro 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive with Module STAD500400 Reviews
Been using for months with zero problems . I definitely took my time before writing a review for this, as I have had backup drives fail within a month or two in the past. This one has performed perfectly!
Setup was super easy. Just hook the pieces together and plug the usb cables into your computer. I'm not using mine as portable, so I've got it hooked into the back usb ports of my pc tower.
I'm using the included Memeo Instant Backup software. So far, it has worked like a dream. I love not having to drag out a portable hard drive every time I want to back up new stuff I've saved on my PC. This automatically does that for me each and every time.
My only gripe is that it appears to be backing up cookies, as well as everything else and I cannot find a way to instruct it not to do so. I cannot find a way to delete the cookies off of it either. hmm. This will require further investigation. I will update if I discover anything.
Overall, I'm very happy with this. It has saved time and is backing up my PC instantly, every time I save something new. No longer have to worry about whether or not my backup is up-to-date.

Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Pro 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive with Module STAD500400 Opinions
Backup Made Simple . I look for several things in a backup drive:
Hardware related:
FAST transfers
Low noise
Low heat output (means that it will last longer)
Software related:
Easy to work
Comprehensive options
Easy incremental backups
Easy restoration
The Seagate FreeAgent does all this. In addition, it easily allows me to back up more than one computer to the drive.
All in all, a great value and a great drive!

Small footprint large capacity quick transfer speeds - Good value . First the downside. I have nearly lost this right under my nose. It's very small - about the size the of laptop hard drive, so much small than a typical desktop's internal drive.
I use it for periodic backup of large office files for offsite storage. It holds 10's of thousands of scanned pages, working files, client data, etc. About once a month, I bring it to the office and back up everything that we can't afford to lose in a fire, lighting strike, theft... I has 6 months worth of backups, so far, with plenty of room to spare.
It's small size means it fits into my pants pocket for easy carrying to / from the office once a month. This is really key for successfully having this as our offsite backup plan. It's quite a bit cheaper to buy this than to pay a monthly online fee, and the backup happen much faster than our T1 will allow.
The transfer speeds when backing up fast - on a sustained basis it has measured between 60 and 70 MB per second if according to Activity Monitor on the Mac from which we backup.

for a low-tech person this was a lifesaver! . I'm afraid I'll have to leave it up to the more technical people to discuss the specifications of this hard drive. I wish I could explain it in high-tech terms, but although I am surrounded by technology, I don't have the expertise or vocabulary to review this product from a sophisticated perspective.
However, my two favorite tech terms are: "user-friendly" and "plug and play."
I'm thrilled to report that this Seagate hard drive fits in with my level of expertise (low though it may be), and made it super-easy to use this to back up everything on my computer. It was ridiculously easy to install, and I can easily take advantage of the "automatic continuous backup" feature, so I don't have to schedule reminders to myself to make sure I back it up every Thursday at 3pm or something like that.
The "Seagate Dashboard Management Tool" really simplifies things so that you can see what is backed up, how much space you have left, encryption, and more. I also should mention that it offers lots of upgrade options, such as one that allows you to store/move large files and HD movies at a much faster speed. And the Seagate Support website has tons of useful info on how you can get the most out of this very useful item. I was a little intimidated when I ordered it, but found it very easy to install and use. It takes the worry out of wondering if and when the computer will crash and I'll lose everything, and it is way easier than trying to back everything up on discs. I just love it when technology actually DOES make life easier. Thanks, Seagate!

Attractive error free drive with generous capacity. . It is remarkable how the pace of technology continues. I remember the agonies of zip drives and Iomega devices--outrageous cost, almost instantly obsolete technology, frustrations all round. I'm sure that soon enough we will view drives like this Seagate drive as hopeless anachronisms. For now, however, let's marvel at what a convenient, slick piece of storage capacity it is.
The drive has an attractive black case which surrounds a quiet, hardworking drive smaller than one's hand. As a test, I've been transferring files from a several year old Western Digital drive. It's half the capacity, requires outlet power, and is easily eight times as big. Time marches on.
I gave the drive several tasks to perform: 80 gigs of music here, 8 gigs of photos there, 3 gigs of other files here. It performed admirably---not a single hang up or error.
Like others, I have heard bad things about the long term reliability of Seagate hard drives. I have two anecdotes: one, a drive I gave my sister several years ago is still happily kicking along. Two, a computer engineer friend of mine contests that the truly reliable life of any hard drive with moving parts is two years. That is to say, you may get away without any problems for many years, but don't be surprised after two years if you experience problems.
The accessory/stand/cable thingy seemed like more of a nuisance that it was worth, but some people may find it useful.
Overall, a nice drive at a very reasonable price. The way drive prices are and with the march of technology, I would just buy the storage you anticipate needing for the next year and then buy a new one the next year.
Chances are every time you buy a new drive it will be smaller, have a larger capacity, and be cheaper.
Recommended.
I'm going to steal fellow reviewer Mike Colan's language here:

Easy compact cool. . The best part about this is it's compatibility between a PC and Mac. I have a 1tb Seagate already, and working like a charm for over a year for Time Machine. But, limited to just Mac. This thing is well over half the size and portable. I am using it as a secondary backup for iTunes and MP3 files since I have over 30,000 songs. This allows me to use on both systems now without the hassle.
There is software in it, and I have no got a clue what it is supposed to to. It's supposed to autorun, but nothing happens on either machine. But I don't want it anyway. I'm just using it for storage, not timed backup. It's also perfect along with my PC Netbook. We all know how there is no space on a netbook, and this is an easy portable solution.
Nothing to learn, it literally just works out of the box. There is no power source or battery, but two usb connectors. One mainly serving as the power supply and the other for transfers. You could very well use this for time backups, but you lose two ports. Portable with the detachable desk base into a snap on cord for travel. No heat. Does not each resources. And it's rather cool. A lot smaller that you will expect. As a long time Seagate FreeAgent user, I am confident this is built to last.

Compact and Perfect for travel! . Seagate 500G backup drive
This drive is small, compact and handy with either a stand up base or a simple plug in. It is practical for travel, small enough to fit right into the laptop bag without adding more than a few ounces to the pack, however it works great on a desktop as well. I keep certain files on it all the time and work from the desktop and laptop without having to move the information. It makes a great portable server.
If you're only backing up a few files, it will take seconds, though in my case it took nearly 24 hours to back up everything I required the first time.
The backup software allows you to never have to think about it. Backups occur regularly, and after the initial setup only files that are changed will be targeted thereafter. It comes with 1 gig of free backup online...which is also nice. Additional online space can be purchased at a reasonable price, if needed.
You can synchronize files and folders, as well as resetting backup times. Installation is easy and well documented, so computer-challenged persons can use it without problems.
Highly recommended

Great Little Harddrive . The Seagate FreeAgent is a great addition to any computer needing some extra space or a great way to back up your files. With 500GB, it should take care of most normal computer user's needs.
It comes with a handy USB dock that not only syncs with the computer but gives you a light up visual of your space remaining. Its a nice touch.
The backup software that comes with it is easy to use and pretty self explainatory. Again, its a nice touch.
You can also expand its usefulness with a TV connector and other such items, those weren't availabel for me to review, but I would imagine that would make this product all the better, especially for a heavy torrenter.

Cons Review
what the f@$k does with module mean? . I know ignorance is no excuse hence the two stars. but the item says with module(i assumed that ment docking station). after reading first review it say and it comes with docking station. My fault i didnt pay to much detail to the actual decription since i know what a harddrive does, but what the hell was the reviewer talking about. the picute shows a harddrive in a stand and the title says with module, does this mean i am getting a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Pro 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive case with the actual mdule stad500400 hard drive inside it? wow thanks for being specific in the title just incase i was trying to buy a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Pro 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive case with a 250gb harddrive insdie. very misleading.
