Nice... . I got this from Frys electronics during thanksgiving sale for $50 after rebate. I plugged the device to the usb port of my pc after powering up the drive. Windows XP recognized it and the device worked fine off the box.
For $50 after rebate its an excellent deal. The one annying thing about this drive is the light in the front is very bright and it is annoying.

Very easy to use . I bought this after losing ALL of my data on my old laptop (dropped it) and having no backup. I certainly learned my lesson with that.
Price was excellent, I just plugged it in and my lappy took care of the rest. It's small enough to keep in the bedside table drawer.

AcomData E5 3.5" External Hard Drive USB 2.0 160GB (HD160UE5-72) . Delivery was within the time specified. Easy to follow setup instructions included. Microsoft 2000XP home edition accepted the program immediately and installation was complete in 15 minutes. Unit runs super quiet, cool and easily mounted in a convienent place using the supplied stand. I'm 69 and have 8 months experience with a computer, I'm delighted that purchase, set-up and operation has gone so smoothly.

Great hard drive . Real specs of it
160GB hard drive: when formated comes out to 153GB as hard drives are rated in 1000MB= 1GB but all computers go by 1024MB= 1GB so overall space on the hard drive is reduced to 153GB

The hard drive is very quiet and you can barely hear it (you only notice it when it's loading)
The case of the drive acts as a heatsink so DON'T stack it. the hard drive already gets hot enough (having it seated vertically causes more heat than horizontally)
Problems: The light on the front of it (1 plastic dome with 2 high output LED lights)
The light is extremely bright (I covered the light on mine with some electrical tape with 2 pinholes poked through it)
The drive has a raw uncached read speed of 31 MB/s and a write speed of 26 MB/s
inside of the external enclosure is a Hitachi brand hard drive.
the external enclosure isint 100% sealed, it has 1 small vent in the back and 1 vent in the front which is hidden behind the front panel the front panel leaves about a 3mm space away from the front vent.
overall, everything is solid and quality.

Simple to use. . I bought this hard drive to store music, movies, etc. I've had it almost two weeks, and here are my impressions so far:
Pros: Easy to hook up, plug and play for XP, the stand that comes with it is very sturdy, the hard drive itself feels solid, simple design.
Cons: Blue LED on the front is to bright, usable space on the drive only reads as 150 GB, the power brick that comes with the drive is fairly large.
Overall, this is a good hard drive for the money. Besides a few design quirks it has, I'd recomend this drive to anyone looking for a inexpensive external HD.

Excellent . I just received the hard drive. It is completely silent, sleek looking, and mounts consistently on my iMac G5. The only thing I don't like is the blue light on it is REALLY bright and goes bazerk when it is being accessed. Maybe that's more of a personality issue than a tech issue. But it is definitely a good fit for my Mac.
Cons Review
Good easy reliable...until it suddenly FAILED . Bought the drive in 2006, and everything was easy. I used a freeware product called SyncBack to run automated backups, and life was good. No problems at all. Since my computer's internal HDD isn't too large, I stored a lot of media files (MP3, AVI, etc.) only on the external HDD, and had no problems.
UNTIL...
Suddenly the drive failed. No symptoms, no warning, no nothing. The drive's LED shows a steady red, not the normal blue. It doesn't spin anymore, and the computer doesn't recognize it. Emails to Acomdata's tech support have been met with a deafening silence.
If you decide to buy this product, do NOT store any files on it that are not saved somewhere else. In other words, better have a backup for this backup. I wish I'd bought a different HDD for my backups.

Suddenly stopped working . Bought this disk some months ago ... but suddenly it stopped working. I tried with Windows and MAC , USB and Firewire ... but no luck. Until that point in time I had no problem with the device
Don't use. When you need it it won't work. . Got a drive in case of a hard drive issue. Work fine for a few years (we used it only a few times for backup). Computer goes down and I'm able to access the drive via a USB OS backup, just need to transfer the files to my external harddrive, reformat and ready to go...but the drive is completely gone. No drop or damage, the HD just failed physically. There goes two years of backups and all the important data over three computers.

pretty expensive but i thought it would be nice cuz of all its features. it stopped working, it tooke me 35 minutes to get someone on the phone and they said tech support was unavailable. I decided to remove the sleeve to see if there was a way of reseting the button. i did not intend to open it but as soon as i pulled on the sleeve, the drive open and after 10 minutes of removing the whole sleeve i found a sticker saying the warranty was void if it was opened. i didnt open it, it fell open. and i called again and said it was my fault because the sleeve was not meant to be removed and the sticker used to be on the outside --- on their old model. so yeah, dont buy from this company, this is a cheap product that will get you bad results. an easy waste of money and time.
