Pretty much performs as advertised but be prepared to do some tinkering . The drive seems to work pretty much as advertised, but my drive arrived with several issues that would likely be major turn-offs to most people. First let me say I ordered this drive directly from goHardDrive.com and did not order through Amazon. The price was about the same but I have found that Amazon seems to hold orders for several days apparently trying to promote their Amazon Prime 2 day shipping.
The drive arrived quickly from goHardDrive.com. The packaging of the drive was definitely sub-par. The drive came in a non-padded cardboard envelope. The drive was in the original drive enclosure cardboard box; again with no padding what so ever. This drive is actually a "drive enclosure" with a 750GB laptop drive installed in it as an add-on. I have no problem with the fact that the product is composed of a retail enclosure with an add on drive, but shipping an item as delicate as a hard drive without proper packaging is a problem waiting to happen. Upon opening the package I noticed that the enclosure was clunking as I moved it and sounded as if something was loose inside. The instructions were pretty basic; plug the provided USB cable into the drive and connect the drive to your computer. According to the brief instructions your computer will automatically detect the drive; mine didn't. So I called the number for goHarDrive.com and get a message to leave a message. At the time of this review I have been waiting for about a month for them to call me back.
With reluctance, I decided to open up the enclosure to see what was clunking around inside. It turns out the clunk was the actual hard drive inside the enclosure. It wasn't even connected to the enclosure connection. I snapped the drive securely onto the drive enclosure connector and instantly the computer recognized the drive. Lastly, I inserted a small piece of dense foam adhesive between the drive and the enclosure housing to properly secure the drive inside of the housing.
Other than my initial issues with getting the drive up and running, and lack of support from goHardDrive the drive seems to work properly. It is small, quiet, and seems pretty fast.
