Great External Storage . I have no complaints about this drive thus far. It worked just like it was supposed to right out of the box. The Firewire 800 transfer speeds are excellent. I like the automatic sleep feature as well. *Leopard users make sure to upgrade the firmware to the newest version to get the most compatibility out of this drive.

Get the Firmware Upgrade . 2/16/09
Be sure to go to Western Digital website and get the Firmware update and Drive Manager. After installing those this drive should be stable. Like other reviewers I was having hangs especially with iTunes. Also it seems that some widgets may have been creating conflicts. But that doesn't happen after the updates.
This product is beautiful! It matches the aluminum of the iMac and MacBooks. It's fast: with FW800 it achieves real transfer rates greater than 56 MB/s. (eSATA rates would be higher, probably 110 MB/s.) Also it's quiet, cool and comes formatted in HFS+ with all necessary cables.

Western Digital 750 Gb Studio edition . This product was easy to to install & setup. The only distraction was having to find & install the recommended upgrade which was extensive & time consuming. Since installation, the device has performed as advertised.

Great Drive . The drive sets up very easily with Time Machine. Speed is fantastic (FW800). No problems at all.
Amazing a HD... With a soundtrack no less! . Blah, blah, blah. It is a hard drive.
Interesting note, however, it is noisy. Time to turn on the power saving features that suspend HDs if you want to be able to think over the dull noise.

great hard drive . The drive works great. I've had no problems so far as I've read others have in other reviews. I use it with my Mac (FW 800 connection), but I don't use it with Time Machine. I also don't let the drive sleep and wake with my computer. I keep it turned off when I'm not using it. I don't know if that increases the odds of a problem free experience, but from what I hear from others, it might.
Cons Review
Beware of the FireWire . Using USB, this seems to work fine and does what it claims. However the FireWire 800/400 connection to a PC is the pits. Windows would not boot with the FireWire connected. Connecting the device after Windows is up will work every other time, but Windows still will not boot with it connected.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT . Prior to connecting the My Book, my G5 ran problem-free. After connecting the drive, I experienced multiple crashes. Sometimes the icon for the drive would show on the desktop, and other times it wouldn't. This drive seems to be flaky at best, and this is right out of the box.
In addition, the technical support I recieved from India was frustrating and conflicted with the e-mail technical support I recieved.
I returned the My Book for a refund. This review appears to be one among many poor reviews for Western Digital external hard drives.

Western Digital 750 GB My Book Studio Edition USB 2.0 Esata FW400 FW800 . Good price, decent looking, but loud. Unit sometimes requires plugging/unplugging power to get it to boot. Also, sometimes it will not show up on the desktop... this happens randomly.
