Life Studio 2TB . Arrived with something rattling around in it - but works fine. Software is ok and picture wall is also interesting. iphone app is not that useful, can only search though all files that have been uploaded - folders are not shown. UPDATE 1 month later. AVOID THIS!! Software crashes and files on the drive have also been found corrupted. Tried to work with Hitachi online help and support is depressing at best. They have no interest in helping issues to be fixed. I would not reccomend buying this at all.
-->UPDATE several months later: Hitachi offered to fix my drive, but in the end it looks like it could be something with my PC specifically, although I will never really know. The drive itself has been working fine. Only anoying part is it launches the install app to install the LifeStudio software everytime you plug it in. In the end the support I got from Hitachi was eventually ok - but we never did get the software to work on my laptop. I just use RSYNC (rsync.net) software now and it works great with the drive and has an online option. You need to get the older version to do drive to drive backups, but it works great, is simple but still tells you exactly what files are beings affected.

Works like any other hard drive. . It simply works. I'm a designer who uses large files and back up regularly. This is my 5th hard drive and files transfer fine. Though it would have been nice to have Firewire for speed, but for the price I paid it was on par with other USB 2.0 drives. I got it on sale somewhere else. The size of the drive is smaller than the ones I've seen, looks quite nice and the small drive attached to the front was pretty cool. The drive simply attached with what feels like a magnet, so no need to fumble to find your usb port (as long as the main drive is attached).I didn't use the software that came with it. It seems cool, but I already have other software on my MAC. I simply needed it for file backups and hard-drive hoarding.

Great storage solution just wish it was more than just USB 2. . I got one of these months ago and was thrilled by it. Great capacity (2TBs), nice looking, awesome features (4GB flash drive included which syncs to HDD via included pre-installed LifeStudio software that I never use LOL), and the only thing I thought could be better was that it was limited to USB2. Hell, it was USB A to mini USB. Now, normally that wouldn't be a big deal, ie day to day transfer. But if you wanted to swap an entire HDD out with this one, 2TBs are going to take a while to transfer over USB 2.0. It took me at approx 4 hours to transfer 600+ GBs. A secondary interface would have helped. Perhaps eSata. Maybe they'll make future versions include eSata or USB 3.

Great Appple Time Capsule Addition with Media Management . With full compatibilty with Apple's Time Capsule, excellant media management software and the ease of travel file management with it's docked micro SD/USB memory stick this external drive is everything I hoped it would be. I upgraded the removable memory stick with a 32GB micro SD card with no issues. Great product and Tech Support.
loads of storage . I use this drive strictly for monthly computer back up and don't leave it plugged in all the time so I can not comment on constant use. Loads of room and the removable 4 gig flash drive is convenient for going to a friends and bring home music and pictures.
Cons Review
Never Again . My mistake! I bought this item thinking that I could simply use it for background backups of my data! It was on the shelf with other external drives and I mistakenly assumed that it would operate as one. I also assumed that Hitachi, being a well known company, would provide reasonable support! Like I said, my mistake...I won't make that one again.

If you still think you want this "device", check e-bay. Since I no longer have the box or sales slip, this one will be there for about $10.00 to cover mailing.
