Useful backup device especially for iPhone photos . I got Pogoplug Mobile even though I was already using the Pogoplug (pink version) because I wanted the new feature that this one added: the automatic upload that allows Pogoplug to mirror the camera rolls on my family's two iPhones. To my delight, the feature works just as promised. The camera backup upload works anywhere over wi-fi or 3G (the 3G can be turned off for data economy). This means peace of mind and easy sharing of photos when travelling. I have remote wipe installed on my iPhone to protect sensitive data in case my phone is ever lost. But if I have to use the wipe feature I now no longer have to lose all my vacation photos. They are backed up "automagically". Travel photos and videos are also available for sharing with friends even while I am still on vacation! I agree with users who say that the GUI is still clunky, but as an early adopter, I have experienced the good tech support others refer to, and I have seen the interface continue to improve over time. The device is the size of a hockey puck, stays cool without a fan, and has negligible power drain so I can leave it on all the time.

Pros:
Tiny, silent, and low power
Automatic camera roll backup
File streaming of music, videos, and photos to my iPhone anywhere I have internet
Sharing vacation photos (and other files) with others can be remotely configured
Provides automatic mirroring backup of desktop computer hard drive = peace of mind
Can set up folders for others to upload into, creating a group photo repository

Cons:
Still somewhat clunky user interface
Need to use other software to convert some kinds of video for streaming
Usefull if you have both iOS and Android devices . I use iOS devices and my wife uses Android devices. Pogo plug allows me to consolidate all pictures from all of our devices to NAS.
New Cloud sync in iOS now uploads to the same directory as pogo plugs upload directory for Android devices.Downside is that in order to make above configuration you need to buy pogo plug premium software for another $29. This software should have been included. Free software provided by pogo plug is crap and will not do much.
Excellent tool . Pretty cool! I've been using mine for a few days now and so far very satisfied. I'm mostly using it for sharing my pictures videos that I take on my iPhone. I take a ton of pictures and videos on my iPhone, so this was pretty much the only thing I found, that was reasonably priced, that let me keep that much stuff online and share it. My only complaint is that it's not wireless so I have to keep it next to my router on my desk.
Great concept but the apps could be better . This Pogoplug device is very easy to set up. All I needed was to plug in the power, connect it to my router's Ethernet port, and run the set up from the Pogoplug site. I was able to get it going in less than 10 minutes. Once it is all set up, the Pogoplug can operate on its own for remote access without the desktop PC powered on. I hooked up my 2 TB USB hard drive which I used for storing my music / video library to the unit and installed the free mobile apps for my iphone and Android tablet. Amazingly it was able to recognize all the files on the hard drive and I was able to play these files remotely without any problems. The Apps did ask if I wanted to optimize the file before playing but I found that they worked just fine without any optimization (I recommend using the mp3 and mp4 format). The video streaming is also very smooth on both the iPhone and Android tablet. We can also access our documents on the hard drive through the Pogoplug file manager. It is a great advantage when I go on vacation (and even overseas) and I am able to listen to my favorite music and watch my favorite movies from my hard drive at home. It is also very easy to sync the camera roll to the pogoplug cloud. A great feature for automatically backing up the pictures we take on the iPhone and Android tablet. One drawback I noticed is that we cannot add the songs / videos to a Favorite folder or create a playlist. It also automatically plays the next song on the list and there are no options for us to set the way you want to play these files (such as repeat or random). The Pogoplug uploader application allows us to drag and drop files to the Pogoplug Cloud (Pogoplug provides 5 GB of free Cloud storage). It goes through a process called transcoding which they claim would convert the multimedia files to a sharable format for all type of users. However, the transcoding process is pretty slow. It took about 40 minutes to transcode a 1.5 GB video file from my desktop. The application is not entirely user friendly neither as we cannot do multiple files select to transcode. All in all, it is a great device for remotely accessing our multimedia library and documents away from home.
Depends on what you want to use it for . Setup is easy. Connect it to your router, plug in the power, add media storage device - flash card, USB drive, etc. The light was red at first, but cycling the power fixed that.Tried plugging in a USB SD card adapter, but the port was too close to the ethernet cable and wouldn't fit. So I plugged the SD card directly into the proper slot. Lesson: can't use wide-ish connectors. You have the option of using their 5GB of free cloud storage, paying for more storage, or using your own device. My intent was to use it to make my video collection available to me anywhere, so I used the SD card for a test. The files were pretty big, 1 or more gigs, and when I tried to access them (via wifi or 3G) I was left waiting and waiting and waiting, finally giving up. It was loading, but slowly, and wouldn't start streaming. So it's more suited for smaller files, or files uploaded to their cloud, where they're "optimized" for mobile viewing. If that's your intended purpose, fine. You can install an app on your smartphone to access your pogoplus stuff. I tried the iPhone version. You can set it up to automatically upload your photos, which is the default setting, and which it started doing. Problem is, the mobile app doesn't let you delete anything. You have to do that on a PC/Mac.It seems to be a good device for backing up your mobile device photos and short video. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be a good device for what I had hoped.Pros:
- Easy setup
- Small footprint
- SD and USB ports
- Easy automatic backup of media
- 5 GB of free cloud storageCons:
- USB port too close to ethernet port; problem for devices with wider connectors
- Doesn't start streaming large files until ... until you're tired of waiting.
- Mobile app has limited file management
- only 5 GB of free cloud storage - OK for lots of photos, but not your movie collection.
Great for media on the go- especially video . The Pogoplug Mobile is a great way to take media, like video, on the go for your iPhone or iPad and not take up storage on your device. Instead you stream the content through it Pogoplug app. Set up was a piece of cake. I connected it to my router via ethernet, loaded an SD card with content and inserted it into the Pogoplug (you can use a hard drive too), and downloaded the app on the phone and iPad.It works great, and better than expected, but there are a few reasons I didn't give it five stars:1. Instead of having to connect the device to your router it would be nice if the Pogoplug was wireless and could be updated with new content wirelessly. Instead you have to reload the drive or card you are using each time you want new content on it. A wireless connection would also allow it to be placed anywhere in the house instead of having to be near the router.2. Streaming through the app over WIFI is fantastic! Smooth and not choppy at all. Over 3G the video was surprisingly just as smooth. No pixelation or delay or choppiness. It streamed and looked great. However, audio took time to catch up and was out of sync. I found myself having to fast forward and then go back to the beginning in order for the audio to be in sync with the video (this was not an issue over wifi).Besides videos you can stream photos, audio, and share files over the device (which makes another reason for a wifi connection instead of via the router). I am only interested in being able to load content recorded from my EyeTV and giving access to a much larger library than what fits on my device.Overall, the Pogoplug Mobile is fantastic.
PogoPlug Accessory . Works as advertised but documentation lacking, first registered without "Premium", had to establish premium status essentially without support after purchasing.Good product tho. I now own a Kindle Fire, no app. available thru Amazon although the store carries PogoPlug. Amazon should support the products they sell, right?Thank you.
Pogoplug review . I was given this device to review as part of my participation in the Amazon Vine Program.Pogoplug is a network device which allows users to create their own cloud, and to back up their mobile devices. It is an interesting product, but not without some headaches.First, I thought that this thing could possibly take my Seagate Free Agent HDD. Nope. The light wouldn't turn green. Then I tried my Western Digital 750GB HDD. Not that, either. Finally I had to settle on a scrawny 4GB Kingston Flash data stick I had laying around. OK. Then, off to the pogoplug website to set up my device. Started out OK, but then when it got to the update it just hung. 30 minutes later I finally restarted the process and it went through. Got the software and threw a few files on to test this thing out.Went to my Acer Iconia A500 and downloaded the app from the Market. Not all my files were showing. The music was fine, but a few docs were missing and not all my videos were there. While I was in the Android Market I took a look at the reviews for the software and was amazed at how many people were having rather severe issues with the device and the application. I think this pogoplug is a great idea. But for right now it seems a little poorly supported. So I plan to keep working at it and will update as I get this thing figured out. For right now it is a 3 b/c it is not just plug it and forget it. And the fact that it threw a hissy fit when I put my external HDD on it really did not sit well with me. Part of the allure in this device was being able to access my "stuff" and being able to back up my tablet without worry. I have a ton of music and movies on the Seagate and it would have been nice if it had worked. So if I were given the option right now of purchasing this I would consider holding off. Or at least reading a bit more about it and reading some of the issues on Android Market.
Excellent performance on WiFi Network.. . I love the Pogoplug!! Before this, I have considered the Seagate goflex Satellite Mobile device as a way to bring my media library with me. No longer. Now my iPad or iPhone can access my media library anywhere there is Wifi signal. Streaming to iPhone via 3G is only acceptable for photos and music, that's why the 4 stars. When I am at home, I can watch practically any movies on my portable harddrive on my iPad without any problems. And of course, you can access your documents remotely too.Setting up the Pogoplug is almost a non event. Unbox, plug in the power, connect it to the router, then enter the Pogoplug activation site URL in a browser and that's it. Painless. Plug in a media USB drive and you are set. You can either get to your movies from a smartphone, tablet or a computer. There are several options for streaming: orginal size or optimized. I gave up on optimization since it took too long to process a 2GB video. Original size works fine, as long as you have WiFi signal. I tried streaming on 3G, but Pogoplug app on iPhone kept pausing so I finally gave up.Another thing you need to consider is security. I wouldn't put any confidential files on the Pogoplug device, even though they seemed to address this concern. Your files will pass by the Pogoplug servers before coming to you, so keep that in mind.I love this device and won't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.11/29/2011: I was on Thanksgiving vacation away from home and had a good opportunity to test the Pogoplug out. I had access to good Wifi network, about 2MB downlink. My Pogoplug is on a fast 1MB uplink network. Video streaming is terrible, pausing every 15 seconds on a 2GB movie. I tried that with both wireless on the iPad and wireless network on my Macbook Pro. Same results. Everything else works fine; music, photo and files.
I love this . I really do love this pogoplug mobile. You can view all your media and other files if you hook up a drive, usb hard-drive,flash or sd card) any where you have access to the internet. Saves from adding larger sd cards to you mobile devices. You have to have a fairly fast internet to stream quality video.I was under the impression that you could stream from all the drives on you computer, you can not. You can if you pay a one time fee of $29.00 for life time activation.
