Mediocre . I like the design on this flash drive. It feels sturdy and is very compact. Unfortunately it's also very slow. I was only able to achieve 4 megabyte per second write and 15 megabyte read.

Worked as advertised . My friend purchased the silver 8GB PNY flash drive so that I can download non-copyright material on the drive. I downloaded 69 folders and 135 files simultaneously while downloading additional files for him from the Internet. It worked as advertised and did it quickly; used about half of the drive in less than 8 minutes or so.
I used an HP Pavilion desktop (Win7 with 4 Gigs of RAM) to complete these file/folder transfers. Worked as advertised and cheaper than the advertised cost here at AMAZON...what more can you ask for.

Convenient . These drives work really well, and the price is excellent when you can catch them on sale. I haven't had any problems with compatibility on any system. The only thing you have to be careful about is losing it. They're so small that if you don't attach them to something (like a key chain) they can easily pull out of your pocket with change and fall to the floor. But the size is also an advantage. I haven't found a port configuration that is too small or cluttered.

Stylish Compact Convenient File Backup . I really like these USB drives. The compact size is wonderful as it's low profile protrudes less from the side of my laptop as compared to traditional thumb drives. The red looks great and makes it more visible. I have backed up and retrieved video files, MP3s, presentations, and essential documents. I play MPEG files directly from the device with no shudder or hesitation. The device functions well and as expected on Mac OSX, Linux Ubuntu, Linux XandrOS, and Windows XP/Vista/7. My only concern is that the key ring attachment seems fragile. I would be skeptical that this design would hold up over time. Instead, I have attached one to an internal zipper of my laptop case, so I always know it is safe and where to find it. Loosing this type of device as a result of structural failure would be frustrating, and relocating such a tiny device would be difficult. A more robust key ring design would give it a 5star rating.
But since it is very potable, stylish and about $2/GB (at the time of writing), I would defiantly purchase these again.

PNY Micro Slide 8GB USB 2.0 -- Tough little thumb drive . I synchronize/verify my software development files with this drive weekly [SyncBack] and have never had a data fault on this drive.
Also this drive has gone through the washer AND dryer and remains reliable.
Yes, the device feels a bit flimsy and the little leash for it is laughable -- but the drive itself is solid.

Cons Review
Product does not work. Period. . I just bought two of these. The price was great, they're small, and I've been buying USB drives from this company for years; never had a problem.
However, apparently there was little to no QA on the PNY Micro Slide Attache 8 before, during, or after production. Straight out of the package, one of them did not work at all on any computer. The other one worked ONCE on a PC (Windows XP); it worked perfectly, in fact, immediately bringing up an Explorer window the instant I inserted it. Then I dismounted it, removed it, and put it back in. Dead in the water. Never worked again.
Neither drive worked in my Mac. At all. They didn't even show up in Disc Utility as unmounted drives.
I am PRAYING that this was just a problem with this particular batch, and that the replacements they are going to send me right away WILL work.
Otherwise, it'll be back to buying their older PNY Attache 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive P-FD8GBATT2-EF for the price of $24.86. Yes, it's big and fat, expensive (in comparison), and a little ugly (black and blue!); but it's a SOLID product. It has an internal light that lights up when the drive is accessed so that you know what is going on. The PNY Attache III 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive P-FD8GBATT03-EF (Black) is a newer version of said product, but DON'T buy that, either--the sliding part is a terrible piece of design.

Died Within a Year . Drive has died after only 10 months of light use. I have tested it on multiple computers and nothing. It performed fine while it lasted. Case is cheaply made. After being attached to my keyring, the keys have scratched it up pretty badly (for comparison, I also have a Leatherman Squirt attached to the same keyring {and for a longer duration} and its finish looks nowhere near as bad).
Slower than molasses . This thing is a real piece of crap when it comes to write/read speeds. I should have known better since a previous PNY 4GB microsd I purchased was also really slow. Stick with Sandisk, their lower class flash memory is faster than most higher class rated memory. I will never buy another PNY product again.
8 gigs is twice as much nothing as 4 . I bought several 4 gig minis drives and gave all but one as gifts. I used the one I kept to store an important file (you know...the kind of thing you back up so can land that big promotion at work?). I sat down at my workstation, installed drive, and nothing. I tried computer 2, then 3, then 4... Hmmm... Well, no problem because of my considerable forethought! I had also saved that mission-critical file on my other flash drive...that was one of these impressive 8 gig models. Opps! This was not the time to notice that PNY logo on side! Also dead, empty, and without purpose. I am wondering about how many people I offended by sending out these worthless devices. Pretty expensive fishing lures. As I said on my other review, one star is one star too many.
