Fast large capacity easy to handle and connect . I bought this to be my main backup storage for digital images and Lightroom databases while I am on the road. Due to its large capacity, I also keep my complete music collection on it, enabling me to listen to any music I feel like. The built-in USB cable works well and gives me about a 17 mb/s transfer rate. This compares to a 30 mb/s rate when using the provided eSATA cable. However, the eSATA cable does not provide power and still requires an *additional* (but provided) USB cable that plugs into a separate power receptacle. Why they couldn't use the built-in USB cable as the power supply is a mystery to me... The drive is light-weight, small, well built and so far has worked very well. It has two LEDs built in, a red one while it is connecting or as an error indicator and a blue one to indicate normal operation, both blinking during transfer. The drive mounts very fast on Windoze 7 as soon as it is connected. It would be nice if they made or offered a sturdy and cushioned carrying case - I feel like I need to wrap it in something to protect it during transport.
Eagle Tech 2.5-Inch 500 GB USB/eSATA Portable External Hard Drive with Built-In USB Cable ET-CS2500PESU2-BK Reviews
Reliable and practical . Bought this to go along my brand new 80GB Intel SSD for my laptop. Its really small and practical, given the built-in cable. However, if I'd known they also sell the case, without the HDD, I'd bought that instead. Not complaining, only it'd be cheaper, and really, the star here is the case. Also, the eSATA interface is really speedy. Leaves USB 2.0 in the dust.

Very good notebook drive . I have been looking to buy a new 2.5" external hard drive and found this little gem.
Comes with integrated USB cable. Now I don't have to worry about losing my USB cables.

The finishing on the surface is really neat. It's not shiny like my other cheapo drives (which smeared easily with fingerprints). This one comes with a sanded/matte surface. Housing is pretty tough. I tried to twist it and it won't budge a bit.

My Windows 7 notebook recognized the drive without problems. I like it!
Great Companion! . A great companion through University! So far no issues with it and the build in USB cable comes in handy all the time. The eSATA connection is a bit of a hassle, due to the inherent fact that another USB cable has to be used to power the harddrive (not the fault of the product though). Transfer speeds are good as well.
Does what it is supposed to. . I have used this drive to back up files on my laptop (SONY VAIO VPCF126FM) and my wife's desktop.
Using the eSATA connection on the laptop the disk is actually slightly faster than the built in disk drive.
The desktop uses USB 2 and was slower.

This thing feels like quality ...nothing flimsy about it.
I would knock off half a star for the poor documentation except for the fact that I didn't need any to use it for what I wanted.
There is a strange USB cable that came with it that I can not find a reason for but I must not need it.
Both PCs are win 7 64 pro and there were no issues connecting and using the drive.

I feel that I got a good deal.
So easy my mom can do it... no really. . I bought this device for my mom to back up family photos / videos etc between multiple computers. It came ready to go and has worked just as described for since we purchased. I feel its a good value too! At least until prices drop on data storage again...
