A+++ Foolproof File Sharing . We operate a small home business with 3 networked computers and we use one of these for all of our backup needs. We installed two 500 Gig drives in this device, downloaded the latest documentation and software for Windows XP from Netgear at [....] and we were off. In additon to backup and file storage this is an absolutely foolproof way to share files between computers. No more broken chains, etc.
Some of the reviews are less than favorable. We can only attribute that to not downloading the latest software. Using this device is a breeze and it performs flawlessly. After installation it sits on the network with a drive letter and all you have to do is either copy or backup any of your networked computers to that drive. It acts just like any physically installed drive for storage or backup. Note: you cannot run programs from this drive it is intended to be a file storage or backup device.
When used for its intended purpose it is one of the best we have found. We bought it and over a year ago and we are very glad we did.

Simple Storage Device . I bought my SC101 back in 2007. It is a simple NAS device that requires loading the Netgear storage manager on your Windows XP computer (not compatible with Windows 7). Its transfer rate over a wired connection is approximately 50 Mbps. Over wireless G approximately 25Mbps.
The reason I gave it 3 stars is that its technology is dated. It accepts only PATA (IDE) drives (2 bays). I would recommend that you spend the additional dollars and buy a newer product. Back in the day this was a superb device but in todays environment it is out of date.

Cons Review
Terrible product . Worst device I have ever purchased, I ignored some half way reviews and paid the price. This device gets super hot and requires software to be run on every machine. Not mac compatibility, its just horrible overall.
