Good case for at home wish there was more padding... . This is a good product, and it fits all Seagate FreeAgentGo External Hard Drives. I have three of these cases 2 for my 500 GB drives and 1 for my 1TB drive (all Seagate FreeAgentGo).
Amount of time used these/this product: I have used these cases for 4 months with no issues.
External Review:
The outside of the case is pretty sturdy. The material is hard and it would like take serious contact with a sharp object to nick or damage the outside material. The heavy-duty zipper seems well constructed and looks like it will hold up well with continual and long-term use.
Internal Review:
(The hard drive side:) I like the stretchy band method of holding the drives in place. I makes it easy to quickly put in and remove the drive. It also allows for the different width drives to be used with the same product (a big plus for me). Some people may worry a little about the bands elasticity over a long period of time, but I do not take my 1TB out more than one a week, so I do not see those bands having issues for a very long time.
(The Middle Divider) The middle divider does a good job in keeping the cable and separated when the case is closed. When open, the divider may look like it does not cover the whole drive, but when closed it does. The divider is not supper padded, but it is also not paper-thin. All in all I think there is minimal damage that could occur from the cable making contact with the drive; however, more cushion in the middle would give it more inner stability and male the case less likely to compress. I am not an engineer, but removing some of the flexibility to compress may actually be more risky when packing or dropping the drive case. Maybe another interview can address that point.
(The Cable Side) The cable side is adequate. The USB cables that come with my Seagate (and most other small/portable drives) is only a handful of inches long, and easily fits into the mesh netting pocket. The pocket does not press down too strongly on the cable, which is important because USB cables can fail when a lot of bending and forced creases are made on the cable. I would not try to use this case to store a USB cable over 8 to 10 inches. It would be best to keep the short cable that comes with your dive stored in the case for quick use or traveling, and leave the extra long cord in a desk drawer.
Overall:
I would purchase this drive case again. I think it is a well made product, and sells at a great price. unfortunately it has a pesky tag inside reminding us it is made in China, which I hate to see, but it is what it is. I would not go throwing my drive in this case up against walls or anything like that, but I think it is (1) is good for everyday storage (2) is travel safe (3) protects the drive from dropping or other potential impacts that may damage the drive.
