Decent flash drive . I was somewhat hesitant purchasing this drive, as there were no reviews yet. I was mostly interested in read/write speeds, as they weren't shown on the information page (or perhaps I missed it). For the 8 GB model, 7.53 GB are accessible, and the drive comes formatted in FAT32. I tried a few read/write tests, with digital camera RAW files. Copying around 7 GB resulted in a sustained write speed of 5.6 MB/sec, and sustained read speeds of the same files was around 28.6 MB/sec. I was impressed by the read speeds, but slightly disappointed in the write speeds. Granted I won't often be filling the drive up (which would take about 20 minutes), so it won't be too big of an issue, and for most data transfers I would not have benefited from any additional write speed.Build quality is fairly impressive, as it's made mostly out of aluminum. It feels solid in my hands, and looks to be fairly durable. The ends are plastic though, but I don't think that matters much.I feel it would be useful to have a key-chain loop included on it, in case you would want to easily have it with you at all times.Overall, it's a solid flash drive for the money, and you probably won't be disappointed.

AmazonBasics 16 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (Gray Blue) Opinions
Works fine sturdy and well designed . This is a sturdy little data key and was attractively designed. Its cap fits snugly enough not to come off accidentally and protects the plug-in contact end. I have used it several times to backup vital data from my hard drive, and it has worked quickly and flawlessly. also, very handy to have to carry your computer files with you, either for safe keeping or for working on them at other computers while on the road. I plan on buying a larger capacity key in the near future. Highly recommended.

Good Value . I've gotten some AmazonBasics products before and have always been satisfied and this Flash Drive is no different. Its a 4GB flash drive for $10. Pretty good value there. The drive's construction seems sturdy so far. No problems with file transfers or holding data. There's not much to say other than this AmazonBasics flash drive does what it is supposed to do. The price point is right for what it is. Another good AmazonBasics product.
Solid great looking with above average performance . I like the feel of the metal. The cap snaps on nice and tight. The usb plug is probably as vulnerable as the ones on plastic drives. Write speeds are about average at 7.5 MB/Sec. Read speeds are much better, averaging 18 MB/sec on large files. One year warranty from Amazon. That's a good thing, as Amazon has about the best customer service on the net. You won't have to speak Chinese to do a return or exchange. Overall, a good choice, for what has become a generic product, even from the name brand companies. At least for usb 2.0 drives.
Covers the "Basics" . This USB flash drive fits well in the category of "Amazon Basics" as they are at the point of being "generic" now.Amazon's entry is strictly no-frills: 4-Gig when much larger are common now, and no access light when drugstore models often have such.Frills aside, the unit seems solidly built, and the case fits together firmly, both in "cap over usb" and "cap on end" mode. I checked performance on FreeBSD, Linux and Windows-XP, and the device was seen with no problem on all systems, and read and wrote without error.I also tried it on several old laptops, and can confirm that it works (more slowly, of course) on USB 1.0 systems.
Nifty Little Thumb Drive . Nice little drive, especially if you just plan to use it for daily backups or transfers from one computer to another in your house or workplace. The gray aluminum housing makes it sort of cute too - compared to other drives. The removable cap can be placed on the outside end of the drive for storage when the drive is plugged in; minimizing the chance of losing it. Very sturdy and well made and seems to zip along when files are copied to it. I say seems to, because unlike most thumb drives I've used in the past, this one has no lights to indicate whether the drive is being written to--I ended up opening the drive contents from My Computer to insure that what I wanted on the drive was actually there. The other downside is there is no way to attach this to a key chain, at least not that I can see. For me, just dropping it into a pocket, briefcase or purse is not the way to transport a thumb drive from one location to another. But hey, that's just me - I'm used to carrying my drives along with my keys - it insures I don't forget it.All in all, for the price, a great little thumb drive to have around. It works for what I need it for - backing up my accounts and my fiction. But, I never expected anything less from an Amazon Basics item and this one does not let me down.
Problem free in a nice metal casing. . This is my fourth flash drive. All of them were fast and trouble free. I use Lenovo Thinkpads, running Windows XP and now Windows 7.The biggest differences are in the construction.I have a PNY Attaché flash drive (16 GB) that has no cap. Instead, the cover slides back. The selling point is that there's no cap to lose. I don't like this "feature" because, since there's no cap, the USB end is always exposed. (Though that's not caused any problems so far.)My HP flash drive (4 GB) has a cap. I prefer that. Both of these flash drives are plastic. That's not been a problem, though I suppose they'd break more easily. This Amazon flash drive (4 GB) has a metal body and cap. It feels very solid. The cap feels more securely attached than does the HP's cap (though I've not had problems with the HP's cap falling off). All of these flash drives have a small hole at one end, to loop a string, wire, or keychain through it for easy carrying. The PNY's hole is the widest. The hole on the HP and Amazon flash drives look too small for some keychains. The Amazon has the best construction due to its sturdy metal body; the one that can take the most punishment.
its a flash drive . it does exactly what you expect a flash drive to do, fits perfectly into all usb ports on my computer, its as if they were made for each other. when not plugged into my computer it doesn't do much tho, it just kinda sits there
Basic functionality . This is a basic thumb drive memory stick. Performance is about average. It is the old-fashioned, non-retractable type (which I prefer, actually) which means that you should try to hang on to the cap. My experience with the new retractables is that they can collapse annoyingly when you try to plug them in from a distance. These old kind are more sure footed, but to each his own.
