Great for playing movies and photos on my TV . I just got this and I'm loving it. I don't know much about video formats like the previous reviewer, but I hooked up my portable Hard Drive with copies of my DVDs on it and in minutes I had my own movie theater! I can scan through a folder of all of my movies and watch anything I want. No more sorting through boxes to find a movie! And best of all, I only had to connect 2 cables. It was also easy to take my thumb drive full of photos and create a slide show on the big screen TV. Totally worth the $100.

Altaz . There are three things I like best in this product; one of which is that you can delete your unwanted movies or any files without connecting the device to a computer just by using the remote control, second that this media player also has a page by page control on the remote and so you don't have to scroll down like what you do in most similar product like this, and third, there is a volume and zoom control.

Love this media player . I used to have a Encore digital player which i'm now using as a "travel player" so that I can bring it along when I travel for work (frequently). So i have to buy a new one which is the Altaz player as the permanent at home. Item is easy to setup, the picture quality is great. Only 2 things that I wished they can improve but not really a deal breaker:
1. I wish the fast forward button can work a little slower because it now just fly through too fast compare to my other Encore digital player
2. I wish the remote control can be more "sensitive". It will only work at a almost 90 degree. If sometimes i'm at the dining desk which as about 45 degree then the remote control will not work. Like i said, the above two things are not really deal breaker. So i'm still very happy about this media player and glad that i bought it.

a must have for multimedia collector . This device is what I have been looking for in the past.
I have 500+ DVD discs which most of them are fitted into a Sony 400-Disc carousel DVD player. Although my Sony 400-disc carousel player can be stacked up to 1200 discs, but it is no longer a popular and widely available item; on top of that, it is pricey. (Sony DVPCX995V 400-Disc DVD Mega Changer/Player)
I love this unit where I can just bring it with me while traveling or simply move from room to room instead of bring the bulky carousel player or my DVD binder case to flip through DVDs. I have tons of home gym workout exercise videos I often misplace them and have to look around the house before working out. Now everything is consolidated into a portable drive and no longer to have ripped onto backup discs that scattered everywhere.
This unit also equipped with optical audio output which support kick ass for surround sound signal. At first, I used the RCA audio cable that comes with the box but sound was somewhat stat-icky (can't blame it, at this good price Monster Cable isn't included), but after I switched to optical audio hooked up to receiver and watching output to my 1080i screen, I am convinced that the quality is good enough to be integral part of home entertainment system.
Navigation is simple and elegant. Its navigation menu is semi-PS3 style. You can configure it to either list-view or icon view in folder navigation. It can certainly be improved upon on look and feel of folder navigation. But, it's intuitive and get the job done.
This device is not WiFi-enable, it says require dongle upgrade which is fine, but I wouldn't mind having that feature for a little extra cost.
A plus bonus for me is I also use this device to make my extra 21" LCD monitor as picture frame, so I wouldn't have to bother spend $100+ on big digital picture frame.

Great Deal . This media player creates a new "High Definition" experience with computer files.
Definitely worth a upgrade. Do not buy a cheap media player (720p). A cheap media player is only good for regular experience and cannot bring out the best of your digital files. The plus is front loaded SD/MMC/MS slot. This feature out beats most similar products on the market. It also contains one USB port at the front and one at the back for the greatest convenience and support multi-units at the same time.
Be aware it is not an Network Streaming appliance (plays vedios directly out of the internet). It does not have wifi or Netflix compatibility.
However, it does have a Ethernet connection. It allows files copying and transfer between different media storage and hard drives.
The design is light, easy-to-use, space saver, and thoughtful back cover, which is extended from top covers all connectors.
It also views text documents. Highly recommended tool for a perfect presentation or product demonstration. For personal use it is great one spot to input all media to HD TV and surround sounds at home theater.
Overall it brings you a great experience of old digital files on your computers. By the way, this product is bargain compare to other similar products.

Altaz HD Network Media Player 1080P AZNMP101 . i recently bought the Altaz media player for me and my Soldiers here in Afghanistan to watch movies,share photos,etc. After recieving the media player, I first noticed how light it was, and how it was constructed. After hooking it up to a Tv set....there was no picture or nothing. I emailed the manufacture and he instructed me to do the following to get a picture using RCA cables:
Power the unit on.
Hit the right arrow on the remote 6 times.
Hit enter.
Hit enter again.
Hit the right arrow on the remote 3 times.
Hit enter.
After the reset commands he given me we were half way in business. We had a picture, but NO SOUND. I checked on different tv ranging from regular RCA cables to HDMI sets we use to brief meetings on, good picture. Still no sound. Emailed representative again but this time no response on sound issues. Dont waste your time and money on this product. poorly constructed using flimsy plastic. Me and troops were highly disappointed....returning this item for something better.

Altaz not reliable and NOT networkable . I bought and returned this item after it failed to perform as advertised.
It did not connect reliably to my ethernet network. It did not see movies over the network. It would lose the connection and have to be reset repeatedly.
The manual does not describe how to reset the box when it is in the wrong video mode. Several calls and emails to the manufacturer did produce a response after about a week, and they provided several magic keystrokes to reset the box. This should have been in the manual.
This is a great idea, and I would try it again if they fix it to work.

SD/MMC/MS Memory card reader is the only good part . with other better media players with better price in the market now, i must be out of my mind to make this purchase.
