QNAP NAS . Bought QNAP NAS unit after some research. I have a lot of video files and photos scattered in several hard drives and it was time to organize. Unit arrived promptly and well packed. Hard drive installation was simple. Set as RAID 5 with 4 Seagate 1.5T drives. Using NAS software was able to easily upload video files under 2G but it has that size limit using browser based software(support explanation). Had to upgrade firmware which was a relatively simple process. After calling support was guided through process of mapping NAS on network as drive where I can drag and drop any file size. Support was quite good and prompt even performing remote hardware adjustments. If documentation had been better I could have probably been able to do this myself. Unit kept ejecting one drive from RAID (which required long rebuild process several times) which after some research appeared to be a problem with the Seagate drives(?). After another support fix this has stopped happening for now. Adding a 5th drive to RAID was not possible with their software(although it's supposed to)and again prompt support remote hardware reconfiguration resolved issue. This part I don't think the average user could pull off. So unit seems to be good but for poor documentation and apparent software issues which were fixed with good support. I will not get rid of my old drives (good advice for anyone) until I feel more confident with unit.

QNAP TS-509 Pro 5-Bay Desktop Network Attached Storage Reviews
Great Unit for Small Business enviroment . Easy to set up and intuitive. Using it for a 12 employee office with 5 WD server class 500 GB drives with RAID 6 - gives 1.3 TB space. Copied all the data from the old server to this unit, it stripped out all the security which was great during the migration from the old server. You can setup security by user or group on the unit or have it download security from your current (or new) server. The interface is fast and responsive. Our new server just had its new Intel power supply fry (after 30 days of use), killing internet and e-mail access (exchange). Because our data was on this unit (decentralized from the SBS 2008 small business server). Employees could keep working while the main server was repaired. And yes, dual redundant power supplies should always be considered though they are pricey. Great unit, I will continue deploying these into small business enviroments.
