Missing screws for enclosure loose fitting power supply . I lost 2 500GB drives containing a large number of Movies, MP3s, and Photos during the past 3 months. Dragged my tail on replacing the first drive when the second died and I was left without data and obvious holes in my backup plan.
Started looking at the DROBO options, but the prices seemed too high for such a low-tech solution. Found this Cavalry 2 Bay NAS 10/100/1000 Raid enclosure and decided to go for it. I am not disappointed as I didn't have high expectations after reading reviews of other Cavalry products. With Amazon's awesome return policy I felt confident that worst case scenario would be a return and purchase a different product.
Your mileage may vary, but I am content with this purchase and am contacting Cavalry (by email) to provide the missing screws. We'll see how that goes.
Pros:
The unit is sturdy enough and has plenty of space inside for cooling
Unit is clean and not intrusive on desktop or entertainment center (except for loud fan)
Raid is very easy to setup; I used 2x2TB Drives Raid 1/EXT3
Gigabit NAS attached to my GIGABIT router with N wireless and gigabit wired connections makes this a fast networked solution
Cons:
Inconsistent and Poorly assembled and packaged; missing enclosure screws
Fan is very loud, need to replace with $5-6 silent CPU/GPU fan (40MM)
Power receptacle on back of unit is not well fitted, power cord can easily fall off
Sata Power and data cables require a bit of manipulation in order to fit the case and drives
