Liked it but it failed . Note that it is about 70% thicker and heavier than their "regular" enclosures, but it's still modestly sized.
I originally recommended this drive, with four stars, due to its large capacity and value ($130 at Best Buy in Dec09), but since it failed after just 3 months of use I am reducing my rating to 3 stars. In contrast my 1.5 year old 500GB FreeAgent Go is still working fine. Perhaps that model or the FreeAgent 640 GB (also thin) are more reliable?
Nice simple backup and sync software that is slightly improved over the previous version. Unfortunately, the software will not backup network disks (even if they're mapped to a drive letter), and the backup software doesn't work if you reformat the disk as FAT32/EXFAT (it must be NTFS).
My other gripe is that I would like to plug it into an Apple Airport Extreme wireless router (for Network storage, and this which requires reformatting the disk as HFS+ (Mac format) or FAT32 (cross-platform). As I don't have a Mac, the former isn't an option, and the latter is no longer possible with Windows 7 & Vista SP2. It took me awhile to find a utility that worked, so it would be great if Seagate would provide one. I used the free program "FAT32 Formatter", and though it now works on the Apple Airport, if it's not accessed for a few minutes it takes about 60 seconds to re-access. I suspected the issue relates to the drive's sleep mode, but even turning that function off didn't help.
If they would fix the above shortcomings (and assuming my drive failure is a rare event), I'd readily give this drive 5 stars for ease-of-use and value.
FYI, the manual directs Mac users to Seagate's web site to download Mac Software.

Works like a champ! . Reading the other reviews, it seems like it's mainly Mac users who have problems. I use mine with my PC and I've had it over a year. I use it for primary storage and access it on almost a daily basis. I've put it through it's paces, and even had it completely filled up at one point, and it still works like a champ. I have no problem with the size and I love the storage capacity. I never used any of the software that came with it, but I usually don't. I'm not sure what else to say about it, maybe Mac users shouldn't get it, but for the PC I'm completely confident in how well it works and it's durability. I'd definitely recommend this to PC users who need the space.

Does what it says on the tin . I picked up my copy of the Seagate Freeagent Go 880 GB model in Krakow, Poland at a shop in the local big mall about a week ago (March 28, 2010). The unit came with a normal-length USB mini cable (~18 inches long, give or take a few) and some software. Since I had absolutely no interest in the software, I immediately chucked it in the bin and plugged the drive into one of the USB ports on my unibody 15" Macbook Pro.
My MBP recognized the drive, I formatted it and it's been running continuously since then.
The drive is slightly warmer than ambient air temperature (~72F) but is nowhere near hot. Most of the time it is completely silent, though occasionally I can hear a tiny bit of noise when it is spinning up/seeking. There is also a very small vibration associated with that spin-up/seek but it only happens very occasionally and is only remarkable because the rest of the time there is absolutely no noise or vibration at all. The speed that the drive reads and writes data seems to be typical, though I haven't done any sort of stress-tests or anything like that - it just seems no faster or slower than my last USB portable drive Western Digital My Passport Essential 320 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive WDBAAA3200ABK-NESN (Midnight Black) so I can't complain.
As another reviewer has noted, the physical size of the drive is the most remarkable aspect of it (other than the vast storage at 880 GB!)... While the enclosure is smaller than a 3.5" drive, it is larger than the average 2.5" portable drive+case. Based on how thick it is I almost wonder if there aren't two 2.5" 440 GB drives inside. At any rate, it is by all means still quite portable.

Cons Review
Seagate FreeAgent Go 880 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive ST908804FAA2E1-RK . I can only say, very dissapointed! At first I was lured to this HD due to its capacity, 880 Gb, but very dissapointed after testing it. Physical details, the HD is thick, about 3/4in and about the size of a 3.5in desktop HD. At the back, there are several tiny holes from where the LED power light will go through, telling you the HD is connected.
I wanted to use this HD on a Macbook Pro. On November 2009, I bought one for about $129.00, connected to the mac and the HD immedialtely died, the indicator light on the HD immediately start blinking and that was the end of this HD. I tried plugging it to a PC and no luck so I returned the same day.
On February 2010 I decided to give it another try, since it was on sale, $109.00. I first connected it to a PC, let the HD and pre-loaded software do their think and then proceeded to reformat the HD on the PC. After this I plugged it on to a Mac, reformated the HD to be mac compatible, and used it as a Time Machine backup HD. A month went by, so far so good, I was backing up my mac via Time Machine every week or so. (Up to this time, the LED indicator on the HD was always on when the HD was plugged in)
After a month this HD died, I wasn't able neither to enter Time Machine nor to access the data backed up in the HD. At this point, the LED indicator of the HD would dim and light up constantly. I tried reformating it and interestingly though, it worked! So I set it up for Time Machine again. I noticed that the HD has become really slow to write data on it.
Well, it did back up the data via Time Machine but looks like it stopped several times, when accessing Time Machine I noticed 5 or 6 different backups for the same day. After two more days of trying to back up the data, the HD died again. Pretty much I wasn't able to do anything with it. When plugging it to a PC, the computer would recognized it but the HD wouldn't show up in My Computer.
Plugged it back to a mac and used Disk Utility to format it and repair it, interestingly it worked! However, I didn't want to go through the same trouble again so I returned the HD. I have spent a combined time of about one day trying to figure out and keep the HD but at the end was very frustrating, gave up and returned it.
I haven't used it exclusively for PC, so that must have been the problem in the first place, but once formated for Mac it should have been ok. Has anyone encountered this problem?

Junk . Died. Only used it once to back my files. It wasn't used for a few months and when I wanted to backup more files, it would not power on. I verified that the power/data cable worked by using it on my Toshiba external hard drive. Stay away! I will follow up with another review about the Seagate RMA process. I don't even want to give it a star, but I have to in order to submit this review.
