Does what it's supposed to do! . This 'thumb-drive' does just what you want it to do -- saves data from any Windows XP-based computer that has a USB port.

The only problem I have with it is the bundled U3 software -- it's almost like they couldn't sell the U3 software on its own, and decided to pack it onto these drives. Just delete it, and it doesn't pop-up and bother you any more.
SanDisk 512 MB Cruzer Micro ( SDCZ6-512-A10, Retail Package) Reviews
The Cruzer is best . I have used A TON of thumb drives and this is my drive of choice for two main reasons: 1) It's very compact with its brilliant retractable plug and 2)It is very reliable. Let me address some of the other issues that I see coming up in the comments about the u3 software that is preloaded. The user will have to decide if he/she wants to keep this software, I personally think its a waste of space but trust me it is EASILY removed. Please do not let the other comments keep you from getting one of these drives because a novice can remove the software and it will not harm the drive or your computer. I have 4 of these drives (in various sizes) and have removed the u3 from each one of them all with no problem at all. Unfortunately this does not make it work with win98 systems or winNT so if you have to have that option go somewhere else, otherwise trust me this drive will serve you well.
SanDisk 512 MB Cruzer Micro ( SDCZ6-512-A10, Retail Package) Opinions
Great value! . I bought this with a gift card I had at a retail store. It works flawlessly on my Windows XP laptop. I like the Launchpad software it uses and the ability to download Thumbdrive versions of software like Firefox and Trillian.

I recently went swimming at a Miami beach for about 15 minutes when I realized that I had my thumbdrive and keys in my pocket. I figured it was destroyed but I left it to dry for a couple days. I plugged it into my computer and it works as good as ever! I'm amazed this little thing withstood being submerged in salt water.

Great value for the money. I do recommend getting a larger size than 512MB though. It's a little small if you plan to download video files.
Convient Drive . So many people are trying to find new convient ways to store all their computer files, with USB Flash Drives. Although there are a handfull to choose from Sandisk knows how to make some of the most high-quality devices that you can easily and securely store your music, your big files and your video files. Their 512 MB Cruzer Micro is a sleek and convient way of storing all your important papers without the need of installing any software to your computer. Although it is very inexpensive, I honestly wish that there could've been more room to store software, considering part of the USB Flash Drive contains protective software to safely secure the files, but deleting the secure software would damage the USB drive. Still if you're going to get the Cruzer Micro, you'll get a flash drive that makes computer owners feel that their files are safe from harm. I absolutely recommend it.

Cons Review
Caused BIG headaches. Don't use . The U3 part of this is known to have severe compatibility issues with many CD/DVD writing programs. It is very flaky. U3 recommends unintalling parts of Nero and other audio CD writing software for this stuff? Crazy, dangerous. If you want this that much, well go ahead.
I plugged this thing in and used the U3 removal tool to remove U3 function and now my computer is bluescreening. I can't be a coincidence.
Worse than getting a virus.
Save your money... . Please do not buy this flash drive. It not only causes a computer to restart, it can also disable your DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive too. As for the storage, it is not really 512 MB but less than that. I have found that I had to eject the U3 drive first, then the removable came out. I never would use the software on it because I just bought for the storage space! I would save my money buy one that doesn't have that on there. Reason, everytime I use it, it is read as a CD-ROM drive and a flash drive. It's annoying, and if you want to use your burner drive...you have have to eject this flashdrive to do that at all.
Use with Caution! . In theory the U3 sounds great...but in practice I've just lost about 4 hours uninstalling/re-installing my Nero and the flash drive still crashed my system. I tried to remove it with the U3 removal tool I downloaded at scandisk main website and that stopped responding as well. And now the disk is completely un-useable. This is the second one I"m going to have to return to the store. I'm going to try and get my money back on this one and try and find a usb flash drive without the extras.
Beware U3 . Love the physical size and form-factor. But I did not realize when I bought it that U3 would self-install on my laptop and basically change the data key into something else entirely. I just wanted to use it as a data key and not worry about having to use the U3 LaunchPad to "eject" the drive, etc.

Worse (for me) is that this version of the Cruzer is not supported for Win98. Two of the computers I use are still Win98. It took alot of googling and even a bit of registry editing to get this drive to work on all my computers. I reformated the drive using the "U3 Launchpad Removal Tool" available from SanDisk, and found a generic USB storage device driver called nusb24e.exe (use at your own risk) that allowed me to use the drive on the Win98 computers.

If I had known about these issues I would have gotten an older version of Cruzer.
Disappointed . I am very disappointed in the 512MB Cruzer Micro 2 I purchased recently. The Launch Pad system sucks. There is no way to disable it. Every computer I tried automatically installs the stupid Launch Pad that takes too long to install. It will crash some computers running windows 2000 and XP. It loads from a protected drive that is read only with no way to delete it. I lose 33 MB out of the 512 MB to this program. I paid for 512 MB not 479 MB. I only hope I can return it. I will not consider buying SanDisk products again.
