So far so good. . I was really wary about buying any external HD because they almost all had some negative reviews somewhere. After looking around and comparing prices, I decided I would give this guy a shot. I had to get one because my music collection was taking over my internal drive.

I've had it for a month now, and have had no problmes at all. Took it out of the box, reformatted it for my mac (instructions to do this were included in the box) plugged it in, and quickly loaded about 45 MB of music into it. Easy as cake. I now run iTunes right off of the drive, I simply flip it on when I want to listen to music and flip it off when I'm done. And I can keep backups of several thousand digital pictures and all my work documents and extra digial footage when I'm editing short films. Upload and Download times seem pretty fast to me (I'm using the firewire version), so no complaints there.

Gave it 4 stars because it does make some noise. I can't hear the fan over my music, so the noise is not THAT loud, but thought people using it for other purposes might keep this in mind.

If anything goes wrong, I'll up-date this review right away.
Fantom Drives TFDF16072 Titanium FireWire 160 GB Hard Drive 7200rpm Reviews
Its OK. . I really dont think its wise to write a review until after you've had a product for a while. I bought this machine online about a year and a half ago.

It still runs. It runs like a rock actually.
Its fairly fast and doesnt give me much hassle.

The key word is much.
About a year after I bought it...The drives light just mysterioulsy turned red and the entire drive froze. I couldnt access files or anything. I then ran a series of diagnostics on it. Some files and clusters had mysteriously gone bad. Part of the drive couldnt work anymore. I lost a sleu of mp3s. I didnt lose all my collection, just part of it. I managed to rescue it, so that only a small percentage of the files were lost.

The drive still runs perfectly. It never makes grinding noises and is still as fast as when I bought it. Im just a little scared of its stability.
Fantom Drives TFDF16072 Titanium FireWire 160 GB Hard Drive 7200rpm Opinions
Awesome - dont know why other hate it . I have had this for 1.5 years now. It was my first external, which I followed up with my buying a 250gb WD. Its so awesome and easy to use. I treat it like dirt, and it still runs perfectly, it rarely has more then a few megabytes of space left on it and frequently sits in my trunk in harsh buffalo winters. If you can find it for $60-70 and need an external, grab it right away.
a bit unstable . Been using it for about two years now. It is an ok product for its price. Not too good.

The drive was unstable and use to give hardware failure a lot of times. Then once it completely crashed. I have to send it to Fantom for a replacement. I for the replacement in about 4 weeks and all my data was lost (as expected). They don't recover your data and if you want to do so you have to send it to a data-recovery company and pay for it.

The replacement part is with me for more than an year. I keep it as a backup of another external hard drive and do not keep it connected all the time.

Cons Review
Not quite what I was hoping for . Does serve as a reasonable data backup disk, but sometimes produces errors when copying files. I cannot use it as a startup disk.

Later - I am just experiencing too many disk problems with the product. I cannot recommend it at all.

Revised summary: Totally worthless.
Disappointed! Wouldn't buy again. . This worked great for about 3 days. Then it sporadically wouldn't be recognized. I had to keep reformatting it. Now it would be totally wothless other than I salvaged a little frustration by mounting the hard drive internally in the computer and that works well. I think the problems are with the enclosure.
A totally unreliable product . The rate for this product should be -10. I bought this external hard drive in 2004, saved a couple of files, and used it sporadically (I have other hard drives... different brand though). After 1 and a half year the product started failing (bad sectors), and after 2 years I got more bad sectors. I can't even format the disk. The warranty of this product is 1 year, and the only advice of their customer service is to buy a new one. They told me that to repair the product would cost more than buying a new one. Now it's a piece of junk in my room.
