High performance low price! . OCZ RALLY 2 4GB High Performance Dual Channel Flash Drive (USB2.0 Portable).

I use the OCZ Rally 2 4GB flash drive in a XP Pro/Home/MCE/Vista environment. I ran the Rally 2 through several test cycles with Check Flash Version 1.03 to both determine its mean write/read speeds via USB 2.0 and to see if there were any problems. Its write speed is about 7-11 MB/s and the read speed is around 18-22 MB/s. I had been previously using a generic 2GB USB 2.0 flash drive made by GFM (purchased from Meijer) which appears to be the same generic flash drive sold at K-Mart and Target. This generic GFM drive exhibited write/read speeds of up to 2 MB/s. The Rally 2 simply runs circles around it!

The Rally 2 is very thin and small. It is made out of plastic but has an aluminum shell on the main body and on the cap. The cap feels extremely loose since it does not grip the USB socket very well. The lanyard is made of high quality nylon and has OCZ's silk screen printing all over it which makes it look attractive (to computer geeks at least). The amber LED indicator is extremely bright.

After running test cycles for 30 minutes, the Rally 2 never went above 100*F (based on an IR thermometer reading) in an 80F ambient temperature.

I also compared the Rally2 performance with Patriot's XT Xporter 4GB. Both drives were formatted in FAT32 (to avoid losing a huge chunk of space to NTFS) and the speeds were comparable. The "200x" Xporter XT yielded 22.5 +/- 1 MB/s sequential read and 8.4 +/- 0.5 MB/s sequential write in Crystal Mark (100MB). In the same tests, the Rally2 exhibited figures of 22.7 MB/s read and 7.862 MB/s write. We're not talking about a huge difference here.

Pros: Fast performance, initial quality check shows no errors, very sleek and small design/profile.

Cons: The cap is too loose and would appear easy to lose. The LED is also very bright, and the drive is too long. I can't use it in my car because the USB port is in the center of the dash, and the long Rally2 sticks out. There's a good chance I can hit it and break the USB port.

Overall: Great bang for the buck - very fast performance at a very low price. USB drives appear they will continue to fall in price, but OCZ is a step above the rest offering quality high speed memory.
OCZ Rally2 4 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive OCZUSBR2DC-4GB Reviews
Cheap & Fast . I have only had the drive for a day, so I cannot comment on longevity. The drive is faster than anything else in it's price class. The light is a little bright, but not distracting. When transferring the light flashes like a strobe light. I took one egg off since I do not know about durability or longevity.

My tests were made with an Athlon 3000+, 1GB RAM, ECS KV2 Lite, Via 8237 Southbridge (USB Controller), and Antivirus disabled.

OCZ Rally2 4 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive OCZUSBR2DC-4GB Opinions
Great little flash! . I bought this product to use as the "go-between" between my computer and my Philips DVP5982 (upscaling DVD player with a USB) to watch movies on it that I've stored on my harddrive in .avi format. I works great in that job; pretty fast transfer rate and no problems with corrupted data. I did disable the feature for data buffering, so that I have to manually remove it as a device from the computer USB ("safely remove hardware"), but I found that it raised the transfer speeds somewhat.

Overall I've been very happy with the flash drive having used it for 3 months now and with the low price I would recommend it to anyone looking for a small and (fairly) fast flash drive. The only con I can really think of is that the led light is REALLY bright and I personally used some black electrician's tape to cover it up, because it was really annoying while plugged into my DVD player when watching a movie.

Referring to what one other customer said about the flash drive not being Vista "ReadyBoost" capable... I don't know what he/she meant, since at least my Vista Ultimate (32bit) recognized the flash as "ReadyBoost" capable and out of curiousity I tried it (since I didn't buy it for that purpose) and it worked perfectly in that job with my Vista. I guess the fact that I disabled the buffering might have made a difference, but I kinda doubt it. So I would state that this flash drive is in fact Vista "ReadyBoost" capable... at least it was for me.
The fastest USB flash drive I've ever used . Simple to use, plug it in and Windows automatically recognizes it. Shows up as a separate drive labeled Rally2 under My Computer. It is by far the fastest USB flash drive I've ever used. The LED blinks orange when transferring and steady when plugged in...I use the light as a reminder not to leave the flash drive plugged in when I'm done. I don't want to accidentally leave in at the public library you know.
Trendy USB drive . This USB drive holds 4 GB. Works well, no issues yet.

It is thin enough that it will not block additional USB ports in tight configurations. This is particularly useful on computers that have a number of USB drives plugged into them at a time.

There is no place to put the cap - it does not reattach to the back while flash-drive is in use. Not quite sure where OCZ was going with this. Other than that, it is trendy looking and works rather well.

There are no special features to set it apart from other USB drives. If you like its style, its the one for you.
Works well . I bought this as a replacement for an 8GB stick that never really worked due its speed. This one works well and I will buy more from OCZ...
Excellent Drive! . Extremely fast data transfers.
The drive has a good, solid feel to it instead of feeling like a toy.
Vista uses it for readyboost and gives a noticeable improvment to overall computer speed. Absolutly no problems with it.
Lasted a long time . The 2gb and 4gb versions are faster than the larger capacity models. The OCZ talks about this in response to a review on the eggy website, and in my experience, it's noticeably true.

They last a l-o-n-g time. Mine are all four to five years old, and all have worked flawlessly until I burned out the last 4gb I owned - using Windows 7 on a new motherboard with a USB charge-while-off feature indicated the drive could be safely removed, and although the LED was lit, I pulled it out. Oops! Brain fart! So I'm buying more before they're gone.

These are thin and fit side-by-side in all computers I've used them with, desktops, mini cases, and laptops. They're rugged - as long as you don't yank them out while the led is lit (just because the O/S says you can...). They're plenty fast enough for me when transporting digital photos. They're cheap. They come with lanyards.

No cons.
Excellent . Very fast. No problems. I did a lot of research because I needed a fast USB drive. This is the one to get.

Cons Review
Hangs frequently very slow writing . Apparently, from an earlier review, there is a difference between versions with the orange light and those with the blue light. Mine is a Dec 2010 purchase with the blue activity light, which seems to be far the worse of the two.

Unlike any other USB stick that I have, this one hangs frequently. It also is slower than molasess at writing -- probably 4 times slower than any other stick I've got.

I also have 2 OCZ "Diesel" 4GB sticks, and those work much better for me. In fact, they are probably the best sticks that I have.

Apparently, OCZ does some good products, some times. But this stick has convinced me to be very wary of them as a brand -- the fact that a product really doesn't work doesn't seem to act as much of a deterent to stop them from shipping it.
