This review is from : QNAP TS-410 4-Bay All-in-one NAS server with iSCSI for SOHO and Home users
Working as expected . This is my first NAS, so I can not really compare it to others.
The setup of the basic backup funcionality (connect it to the network, find it, setup backup schedule) worked as expected. I attached a separate backup disk, so I have backups being taken from the NAS (yes, they can crash, too). And I use the Netbak SW from Qnap to take backups from my laptops to the NAS. The documentation around that is ok.
I moved my photos, music and related to it, and the content is now accessable from my windows laptops (network share), as well as from by LG BD-390 media player (over UPnP). Mac access should be easy, too. There is quite a lot of other functionality in the Qnap that I have not yet worked on to enable.
To be honest, you need to know something about IT understanding public IP addresses being assigned (and changing), access right to shares, adding user access, that you might have a personal FW on your laptop that prohibits access/things to work, etc, but I would expect that being the case with all NASes.
I purchased four Seagate Barracudas at the same time, and all works well, as well as a backup drive to the NAS.
