Replacement for a 3.5" drive . I needed a replacement 3.5" drive. My drive stopped working about a year ago. I had no need for it. I was looking through some boxes & found 35 Kodak Picture Discs from the middle 90's to around 2000. So I needed a quality but inexpensive machine. Very easy plug n play USB connection. 3 of my discs would not play, but I think that was due to the way I storred them. If you need a drive to look at some old stuff, this is for you. Some new computers don't even have a 3.5" drive. Also remember to transfer those pictures from the 3.5" discs to CD-rom or DVD's.
HDE External USB Floppy Disk Drive Reviews
Great drive . This was delivered really quick and is a great floppy drive. I had to put a lot of old floppy disc on CD's and this drive did it really fast. Great buy!!
exellent . This product meets all my needs, as I had a few old floppys with pictures and data to transfer
Wrong Item . Not sure how well the item works. I typed in external floppy drive for mac in my search. The floppy drive I received doesn't work with a Mac.
HDE External USB Floppy Disk Drive Opinions
Floppy drive . A great product and the item arrived very quickly and in good condition. Unfortunately, it won't read the information stored on my old floppy discs. Perhaps it has to do with using Windows 7. It would work if I allowed the unit to "format" the discs, but then I'd lose the data that I wanted to retrieve.

UBS Floppy... it's a USB floppy (what do you EXPECT?) . Folks, it's a $14 USB floppy drive - it works... it's a bit slow (all floppy drive are!!!) It does the job, it came w/i a week, I've used it for what I needed and I'll put it in a drawer and break it out the next time I need to pull data from a 10+ year old 3.5" floppy disk.

If you haven't used a floppy drive in a while this thing is going to seem SLOW... but they were slow 10 years ago.
Works Well for Most Purposes . This FDD works exactly as you might expect, Windows will detect it as a regular old floppy disk drive, and can read and write normally. Read/Write speeds are slow, but not the worst I've ever seen. I would strongly recommend this USB FDD, it's light weight, works well, and feels durable. You would never have a problem throwing this in your backpack, briefcase, or whatever. The USB cable that's hardwired to it is a good length, long enough to get the drive where you want it, but not so long that it's cumbersome.Be advised, while this device does work generally on Linux, there is no access to write to the entire unformatted space (the /dev/fd0u1722/ device). Different drivers might allow this to be done, but if that's what you're planning to do (i.e., squeezing an operating system on a single floppy) you're out of luck.
Happy to Retrieve Files on Floppies . I had saved files in previous years on 3.5" floppy disks, and needed a drive to retrieve them on a newer laptop. This one was very affordable, and shipped quickly. Easily connects to my laptop via USB port. I'm very pleased with this vendor's pricing.
Does the job . Try to get one at a really good price, these things (for me) are a one time use of converting my old floppy's to disc.

Cons Review
These drives are junk... avoid . The market seems to be glutted with these cheap black USB floppy drives... but they are too cheaply made and simply don't work. They "seem" to work for about 10 minutes, an hour maybe, and then begin failing. I tried three and all basically behaved the same. One of the drives actually corrupted a disk by changing all the file names to random characters! All three eventually stopped reading known-valid disks altogether -- claiming that every disk inserted was unformatted.

So, don't waste your time or money on these... look for decent new or used name-brand drives on eBay instead. I got lucky and found some brand-new surplus Lacie USB floppy drives (for about the same price even!) which are well-made and work perfectly.
