Like it but don't love it... . Starting grad school last year, i found that owning a USB key is as important as inhaling a cup of coffee in the morning. Without it, i'm disoriented and work definitely goes slower...

At the start, i had a 128kb key of a different brand and some of my friends had Cruzer Micros. I liked them instantly because of their tiny size and the option to add color savers so that they didn't get mixed up. This year, i decided it was seriously time to upgrade so i got the 1GB micro retractable cruzer. My thoughts? Mixed...

The size of this new cruzer is comparably small, maybe not AS small but still tiny compared to the rest, which is great. The 1GB space is also pretty great (esp after having a 128kb a year ago), and its not too expensive at all. The case design however leaves something to be desired, and the U3 program...? well first things first.

The old cruzer's case is silver with a seemingly sturdy design and a cap to top em off. This one, with no cap but a retractable design seems a little flimsier than the last which isn't comforting when your important files are stored on it. But the retractable design is sweet because no worries of a lost cap. HOWEVER, the flaw in the retract-design is that there isn't ANYTHING that covers the usb port when its not in use. I assumed, before buying it online, that when you retracted into the not-in-use position, a small cover would flip from the inside and cover the opening so that dust, small particles, water or whatever couldn't get in easily. Not so. When retracted, the USB port is still visible and open to the elements. Not something i'm happy about since the point of a cap/cover is to protect from stuff, and the point of retraction is to not have to worry about the cap or cover. So really, the key point of retractable covers is missed.

Now onto the contentious U3 program. Do i love it or hate it? Neither - i don't really care about it. BUT, here's the thing, this USB key doesn't just go into my computer, it goes into other ones as well - and THOSE people HATE the program. In giving my micro to someone else to grab one of their files, it takes a minute longer than it should because it starts loading up the U3 program. People who don't own a micro freak out because this foreign thing is telling them they need to restart their computer for this new program (which they didn't ask for) which is trying to load up for the first time. Not a crowd pleaser.

So because a simple file tranfer takes longer and because not everyone wants the U3 program loaded automatically onto their computer, i figured it'd be better just to uninstall it. Easy? Just as the above reviews said, not so much. All in all, i don't like the U3 program but that site about got rid of it in a quick minute. I like the 1GB of space on a very small-sized USB key, but my new cruzer micro 'key' won't hang off a keychain anymore because its way too easy for the elements to enter the port thanks to the retractable-but-not-replacing-a-cap design of late.
SanDisk 1 GB Cruzer Titanium ( SDCZ7-1024-A10, Retail Package) Reviews
For Macs you may want to remove U3 . The drive itself is great. Tough case, a strong attachment notch, sliding connector, and cool blue light make this a good choice.

If you are a Mac user you should know the U3 software is only for Windows. The drive will mount a U3 CD-ROM image on your Mac desktop that can be ejected but not removed using Disk Utility. The U3 partition can be removed but you will need to use Virtual PC or borrow a PC and connect to Sandisk and search for U3 removal. The U3 software must be running in Windows for the partition to be removed. After removal the drive becomes a common MS-DOS formatted drive. You can keep this formatting if you want to share files with a PC. If it will never be mounted on a PC then use Disk Utility to format it as a MacOS drive.

If you don't mind the auto-mounting CD and think you would like the U3 software for use in Windows then just leave the drive alone and it will work fine in MacOS and Windows.

I would give a 5-star review for Mac users if it was easier to get rid of the U3 partition. Despite the extra steps I think this drive deserves a look because of its advantages listed above.

Fantastic little flash drive . First thing you want to do is download the uninstaller from their website, and remove the TSR program on the drive (this CANNOT be done by just formatting the drive).

Once this is done, the drive works perfectly. I have both Mac and PC, no difference. Very fast and durable. This thing is one tough drive.

I like the retractable slider also. It's a snap to use.
Not bad . Not knowing about the U3 software that comes on this memory stick I was appalled to have it install on my Dell Inspiron laptop without asking. That said, it was easy to remove the software and U3 partition with the removal option. I experienced none of the problems reported by other reviewers.

The rugged metal case is a plus, however the USB connection doesn't have a cover anymore like earlier cruzer models. I'll be watching carefully where I put it - I'm not usually wearing it around my neck.

Not bad, not very special, just a rather ordinary USB memory stick.
good one . Works really well, I am happy with its speed and compactness. Only feedback for future buyers, is you really don't need steel heavy weight body while the same application of storage media can be get done with 20 times low weight polymers unless you throw storage media bellow running vehicle or give it to children so they can accidentally chew it.
U3 Rocks . I have to admit that I was hesitant to embrace the new U3 technology, but I'm sure glad I did. My biggest thrill was to see how easily I can now synchronize my Outlook calendars between home and office. My advice would be to download the latest U3 program after you plug-in the Cruzer. Take about 10 minutes to explore what's possible, and then either delete it or use it. The latest downloads make it easy enough to delete, but I'm keeping it. Hey, people used to be afraid of microwave ovens too but they sort of caught on.

Cons Review
CruzerSynch Doesn't Work--No Support . As a dumb hard drive this is 1GB for more money than you need to spend. The "U3 CruzerSynch" preloaded application has never been able to transfer the Contact list from my Outlook Express, it crashes...everytime. It's also better to use SyncToy from MS because CruzerSynch only synchs (deletes files deleted from the HD) while SyncToy has a "Contribute" option that never deletes from the destination drive. I contacted "support" I sent them the requested copy of my wab; they've been "working" on it for weeks, I never expect to hear from them. CruzerSynch also, without warning, deleted my address book (Contacts) from my HD. Not good.
This thing is terrible . Ok, so I ordered this item in April and it finally arrived this week. I come to find out that the shipping delays were pleasant compared to actually trying to use this thing.

I bought this drive for work and school. Neither institution will let me install software on the workstations, so that means that U3 has to go.

The U3 software on this thing is a shoddy hack at best. It wants to take over my system, install software, and won't let me remove it. I'm going to contact SanDisk and see if I can't get my money back. I've tried everything to get this stuff off of my drive and off of my computer, and it fights me every step of the way. I've tried to uninstall it from the included U3 removal tool that SanDisk put in LaunchPad and the software freezes and enters an infinite loop. I've tried to uninstall it using the official U3 removal tool but it tells me that no U3 devices are found and so it quits. I've tried updating the software from SanDisk but the installer tells me that the drive will not work. This is an absolutely terrible product

DON'T WASTE YOUR LIFE WITH THIS PRODUCT.
Great sturdy USB key ruined by U3 . This is a great sturdy little USB key.

Smooth edges will not scuff against clothes or anything else in your pocket.

Handy keychain loop spaces out the USB key from the other stuff on your keychain, so it doesn't all bunch up and stick out.

The USB connector is protected by a self-contained sheath, which slides easily, and sturdily locks into place when both fully retracted and fully exposed.

As advertised, it's nearly uncrushable. The case is made out of solid metal. Only the sheath slider is plastic, and that's recessed, so it won't bear the weight of any crush.

The USB key itself has a good speed when reading and writing data.

The one, fatally bad, mistake that SanDisk made:

U3!

This piece of feculent malware infects all computers used with the USB key. It stays around, even after the USB key has been removed. It gets in the way of simply trying to use the USB key to hold data. It's known to crash or lock up many computers. It can't be formatted or deleted by normal means, as U3 appears to the computer as an additional drive letter that is strictly read-only.

U3 can't be uninstalled unless fully installed in the first place, which means that it's easy to get stuck in limbo: neither fully installed, nor fully uninstalled, rendering the USB key unusable. I wouldn't be surprised if they purposely make it difficult to uninstall. Since U3 has the power to sneakily install software behind your back, whenever it is inserted, there's got to be a temptation for SanDisk to take some cash from a spammer or two. Who wouldn't want the opportunity to silently install some spyware from an unsuspecting user's USB key?

If you want to enjoy having a "computer on a stick", with applications and data entirely contained on the USB key, so you can always carry your favorite programs with you, you can get this right now, for free. You don't need U3 at all. It's at PortableApps.com -- enjoy!
Beautiful garbage . This is my second Cruzer Titanium, and both of them stopped working after about a year. It wasn't from abuse, however, because I generally tried to take care of them.

The outer casing is sharp-looking and resists scratches well enough. The retractable feature is a great idea, so I don't have to carry a cap for it. I could access files fast enough, and I ended up removing the u3 software so that it functioned as a normal thumbdrive.

I really wanted this product to work, but after two tries I think I have had it with the Titanium
