Good product shame about tech support . The drive installs and works really easily. However, I did have a technical issue with the drive and made the mistake of contacting their technical support. First by e-mail and it took over four days to get a response - not the two business days they claim. Then I contacted their support center and it was a waiste of time as the person didn't really have a clue. You need to insist on talking to a Senior Technician if you want help. Or you can search through their FAQ section on the web site. Overall though, the drive itself is very impressive.

Western Digital My Book Premium II WDG2T20000N 2TB External Hard Drive Reviews
Terrific Drive . This is my second My Book drive; I liked my 500G one so much that I had to upgrade to the 2T with RAID and I am very impressed with the performance. Installation is really easy and the drive is fast and reliable. It automatically sleeps if you don't access it for a while and wakes up when you need it so it's energy efficient too. Works fine on all the interfaces but Firewire 800 is obviously the best. No negatives at all.

Western Digital My Book Premium II WDG2T20000N 2TB External Hard Drive Opinions
Solid quiet and fast . I've had this for a little over a month now, and have been using it in a mirrored RAID configuration. It is currently serving as my TimeMachine backup destination, and as the storage for my media server. It's nice and fast, and quiet enough that it does not distract from watching movies or listening to music. Additionally, it looks quite nice on my bookshelf.
I would recommend this drive to anyone, and will most definitely buy another when this fills up.

Lots of portable storage . A low cost high capacity portable storage device. Runs very quietly, almost unnoticeable. There are other portable drives like this available from other makers, but since Western Digital makes the drives as well as the electronics, they can sell it for lower cost than someone who does not. My purchase price was actually less than what two raw 1TB drives would have been at the time.
Some things to be aware of:
1. Drive capacities are listed as powers of 10, not powers of 2 as the typical orders of magnitude are for memory. So 1TB is really 1*10^12 bytes, and is about 0.91 TB (0.91*2^40 bytes). This is not a blatant lie, but an industry convention.
2. Running this in RAID0 mode gives you twice the capacity as running in RAID1, but you have a much greater probability of losing all your data if just one drive fails. This could be very costly, if you actually had 2TB worth of data.
3. The USB2 and Firewire interfaces are rather slow for moving this much data. I don't have Firewire800 on any of my computers, which would have been twice as fast. I wish the E-sata version was available when I bought mine; that would have been about 10 times as fast.

I liked it enough to buy a second one... . The bottom line is that I liked the 2TB drive I bought a couple of months ago enough to buy a second one so I can have proper redundant backup of my photo archive. When the prices drop some more, I plan to get a third so I can keep one backup off-site. These drives aren't perfect, by any means, but they're the most practical way to have the capacity I need in a convenient form, and at a very reasonable price (for the capacity, at the present time -- March 2008).
Huge Fast Reliable . I liked my 500GB My Book so much I bought this one as an upgrade when I ran out of space, and now I run both. It's very quiet most of the time and gets a respectable 15MB/s or better transfer speed to my laptop over USB 2. I have not tried the firewire function but I hear it's slightly quicker, however I don't need the speed.
The only downside I can find is that it does have a loud fan that can come on when the drive is accessed unlike the single drive units. I tested this thoroughly under XP and Vista and had no problems with either.
Some info you might like to know:
It comes as a single RAID 0 volume, NTFS format
Ships with proper drivers for XP/Vista
Easily changed from RAID 0 to 1 through software in windows
Drives can be swapped out in the event of failure
Blue light on the front is not blinding

I love this thing! . I had no problems installing this external hard drive to my Windows XP computer at all. Just accept every single thing that the install program is running regardless of any warning that may pop up in Windows that says "Microsoft has not tested this..bla, bla, bla, Do you want to install it anyway?" Say "YES." You click through a few of those pop ups, it installs, and runs perfectly.
The 2TB of extra storage are awesome, and this unit comes equipped with RAID, meaning you can either set up the drive to store a full 2TB, OR, you can store 1TB worth of data and have that data automatically mirrored to the other 1TB. There are TWO 1TB hard disks on this unit, so if one of them goes bad, you still have the other one that is fine. This is ultimate protection of your data.
"My Book" is the perfect name for this thing, because it really is about the size of a small book. I set mine right on top on my desktop computer. It has firewire (IEEE 1394) hookup capability for speedy transfer of data. The stream is almost instantaneous.
The Backup software that also comes with this unit is also very easy to use, and will quickly backup EVERYTHING on your desktop or laptop, OR, you can select specifically which items to backup.
All the cords you might need for hookup are also included with this unit, including firewire (IEEE 1394) and USB 2.0. Firewire (IEEE 1394) is much faster, so you should connect with that if at all possible.
I can't recommend this thing highly enough. I love it.

Excellent drive wish it had more features? . I really like this drive a lot. It doesnt exactly what it was supposed to do. I have this plugged into my iMac, doing photo and video backups on it.
However I can't help but wonder if there were more features I could get out of it? Perhaps an integrated power supply so I dont need the external "wall wart" taking up space.
Not sure, but a terrific product that has firewire 800 support for super fast speed.
I will be buying a second one soon!
