Large And In Charge! . 1. Huge 2 TB storage in a compact high style case (smaller in person than appears in photos).
2. Option for RAID set up for safety/data redundancy (the option I chose)
3. Comes with back-up software... I've got it set to copy my entire drive every Sunday at midnight.
4. Quiet and cool... Love the subtle blue under-chassis lighting
5. Comes with all four cables!
6. Mac *and* PC friendly (apparently not all are... see some of the larger capacity Western Digital drive reviews)
7. Only four stars as is pricey compared to the bargain 2TB units out there... but if you value quality, quiet, cool, cables n' crave confidence, this may be the drive for you!
LaCie Hard Disk MAX 4TB Quadra eSATA/FireWire800/FireWire400/USB 2.0 RAID Portable External Hard Drive 301883U Reviews
A great drive . I've had this a couple of months and I'm happy with it.

I did a lot of research before I bought the drive. I'm a photographer and needed to have a large drive to hold and protect my thousands of digital images, plus back up two Mac's. I set it up as a Raid 1 ( duplicate of everything, but slower speed ) Follow the instructions carefully, Raid 0 is the default setup ( faster speed, one copy of everything ). I like that it has several types of input options, USB, firewire, and SATA. I use Firewire most of the time. I can use the USB to plug into my Apple Airport home network to access it wirelessly, too.

I like the design, and it's quiet. It has a standby fan shut-off to cut down on electricity.

No hassles just works great. . After reading reviews of other Raid products I decided to spend a few extra dollars and buy this one. I have a Macbook Pro and a lot of HD home video and needed a more secure place to store it all. This drive was simple to set up as a mirrored array, the drive is pretty quiet and has a fan that ramps up as needed. The drive comes set up for Raid 0 (striped), if you want Raid 1 (mirrored) make sure you follow the directions before plugging it in.
Great drive disappointing warranty service . Like some of the other buyers, I did a lot of research before buying this drive. I was looking for a drive that could be set up as a raid 1 and could be plugged into my wireless network. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to set it up. I plugged it into my network and it appeared immediately in Windows Explorer! Wireless copying of picture files is somewhat slow (ok, very slow), but casual sharing of document files like Word or Excel files works great. About 8 months after setting it up, one of the drives went bad. I expected that LaCie would send me a replacement drive that I would swap for the old one, and I would be back up and running with little fuss. I was wrong! It took over three weeks chatting with customer service trying to determine which drive was bad, and then told me to back up the data and reformat it to verify that it really was bad (apparently the LED's do not really indicate drive status). Eventually, I sent the drive off for factory servicing. I recieved a refurbished drive back, which was ok, but I was surprised by this whole process. Please be aware that if you are setting it up as a raid 1 configuration and a drive goes bad BEFORE the warranty expires, you may not lose all your data, but you are not simply going to be able to replace the bad drive with a new one from LaCie. I have always thought that this was a huge advantage that raid drives offered. With this drive, it would be better to have a drive go bust AFTER the warranty expires and you can just go out and buy your own replacement. Yes, I supposed I could have done that too, but it was the principle of the matter - I really did not feel I should have to spend money for something under warranty! First one I have owned, so I don't know if this is a common industry practice or just the way LaCie operates.
My 2nd Drive - Great So Far . This is my 2nd LaCie Drive and I purchased this one for a few reasons:(1) Storage - With 4TB in a RAID (0) or Speed option set up there is more than enough space to back and store my media library. Using the eSATA cable that was included with the drive resolved the issues I was having with iTunes locking up when I attempted to access my media library when it was stored on my NAS.(2) Connection Options - Multiple connect options is nice option since one of my computers has eSATA and the other has Firewire. This drive has eSATA, FireWire 800, FireWire 400, and USB 2.0, so moving to the drive to a different PC is not a problem.(3) Design - Many of the LaCie drives just look cool - I liked the black mirror finish and design of this drive. It matches a lot of the PC equipment that has this same black mirror finish. Just be prepared to dust it often because it shows the dust and finger prints. This 4TB drive replaces the LaCie 2TB drive that I gave to my brother . . . I got the 4TB for about $60 more than the purchase price of my original 2TB drive, so it was worth a little extra to basically double the storage I had before.Like my first drive it has been working fine out of the box for months and months now. It even comes with all the cables which is a plus. The only reason I did not give this one 5 stars is because of the fan noise was louder than the 2TB version (that one was dead silent), but I have gotten use to it now.
Great External Drive for MacBook Pro . I purchased the 2TB LaCie Quarda to connect to my 2010 MacBook Pro over FireWire 800. After 2 months of use, it is working great. The drive is fast and silent. I configured the drive in "safe" mode (RAID 1) rather than RAID 0 (fast). I store 500 gigs of RAW images and use Lightroom to edit these photos. The photos snap to the screen - much faster than they load when stored locally on the MAC harddrive. I also run Virtual Machines (Parallels > Windows 7) off of the Quarda drive and again, the VMs run faster than when stored on the local MAC drive. I attribute this to the 7200 Spin HDs in the Lacie. Also, in "safe mode" users can expect only 1 TB of storage - not the 2 TBs advertised if you configured the device in "fast" mode.
Excellent product . The Lacie 2TB Raid drive is excellent. I was up and running within hours and it works flawlessly. If you run it in RAID mode (safer) you will get about 1TB of storage space not 2TB.

Cons Review
Fan noise! . Unit has been running for approximately 1 month for 12 hours a day. Fan noise, which was very low initially, has now increased to the point where I cannot bear to have the unit on my desk. I suspect that a bearing in the fan unit has already failed. Everything else about the product is fine but a failure like this after 1 month is unacceptable.
Loud . This product performs very well and looks great, but the big show-stopper is the loud, high-pitched whirring sound that sometimes gets louder. I didn't see the previous reviews about this issue before I purchased because I probably would have ended up with a different HDD, especially since I have to sit next to it all day, every day at work. It's not that the internal HDDs are loud. They aren't. The issue is the internal cooling fan. There's no getting around it - even when the disks seem like they've spun down from inactivity this fan is still going loud and strong.

Performance - I haven't had it for long, but it seemed to do a full system backup in a reasonable amount of time. Honestly, I plugged it in, reformatted, and went back to work. It's nice that it has the quad interface, though the cables seem a little bit short to me - just long enough to situate the drive on top of a tower, or immediately next to it. You may want to purchase another set if you plan on putting any distance between the two. I have it running on a linux system with no hitch. Switching the button to "safe" presented the unit as one drive to the OS when it came time to partition it.

My advice - skip this one and find another drive that doesn't make so much noise. There are a lot of options on Amazon.
Very Loud. Otherwise Good I guess. . Product is extremely loud and annoying. I have to dismount it constantly because it is irritating. Otherwise have had no problems and I've had it for almost a year.
