Hitachi LifeStudio . I have had my hitachi hard drive for over a year now no problems at all. you do not have to use the life studio program. I just uninstalled it and made a shortcut on my desktop to the hitachi hard drive. I organized all my folders how I want ( i have a movie folder music,pictures,and tv and so on) its great i organize everything how I want. I do not really like the lifestudio program because it organizes stuff by date and its hard for me to find things but it looks great and would be if it had more options but i get where they where going with it I just do not use it. Its deserves more stars than people are giving it it is a good hard drive.

Hitachi LifeStudio External Hard Drive . Hitachi LifeStudio Desk 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive 0S02662 (Black)Installation was very simple. I plugged it into my computer (Mac mini), and it showed up on the desktop. It has performed flawlessly. The only thing I dislike is that you cannot delete the preloaded software, which I have no need for (actually it's part of the firmware for the drive)-- even if you reformat and partition the drive to Mac OS. Every time you start up, this software shows up on the desktop as a "DVD".

Not all it says!! . First let me start by saying i gave it 3 stars for space..The software 3d wall it comes with i have not yet been able to use!!! I have called the support line and they keep telling me unable firewalls in order to run the program...I have done this but it still takes over an hr for the program to stop running and only half the photos are there..as far as photo space and access from my computer its fine i just was really intrested with the wall!! So for me i am very disapointed.

Very nice . I love this hard drive, one of the best I own. It's Lifestudio programming is sensational. Easy to use and works on my MAC!
Cons Review
More like an extra computer than a hard drive . Maybe for some people this would be a great external. I could see some people liking it, but not me.
First, the hard drive is more like a second computer. It will do pretty much everything, from storing your pictures and video to surfing the web. That's right the external will surf the web for you. I get that it is a cool feature, but it's not what I want when I buy an extra hard drive to store information.
Second, and this is what really did it for me and made me return it. When you search for items on the drive (pictures, music, video...) instead of searching like you might when you open the C: drive, it searches by tabs along a wall. So you scroll along the wall until you find what you want. Which in itself isn't horrible, but there is no fast way to search, if you are looking for one item, say the Beatles, if you scroll there is no way to tell you have gone to far or not far enough without continually stopping and looking. In order to be able to see the whole wall close up you can not have more than three rows. Which, once again is fine if you don't have a lot of music. As soon as you have lots of music imagine trying to scroll through a wall, while still being able to see what your doing, when you have thousands of tabs to pick through. It would take forever and defeats the point.
Finally, the only good thing, and in my opinion is also a bad thing, is that the drive is essentially a back-up of your computer. Meaning whenever it is hooked up it is backing up your computer. I found no easy way to load my music onto the hard drive without also having to load it onto my computer. Which is exactly what i didn't want to do. I don't want two exact copies of my computer hard drive, I want to keep as much free space on my computer so it runs fast and move all my music onto the hard drive. Maybe there is a way to do this, but I never figured it out, as such am returning it and am extremely disappointed.

Requires AC Power. Not USB powered as described . Bought this hard-drive to use in the field and need something entirely USB powered. Description of this product says "Power: USB bus-powered or 5VDC" This is not the case. It is 5VDC only. Unit will not power on via USB cable.
